"Everything you can imagine is real." -Pablo Picasso

Reality can be as fluid as time. In this reality, I am not real. Not anymore. Once I was as real as any friend to my owner. We went on grand adventures, laughed in the sunshine, and tumbled in the grass. We drank carrot juice until we turned orange. We cuddled up in the dark and kept the nightmares away for each other.

Then my owner grew up.

They didn't imagine me anymore, and only remembered me with vague nostalgia. Now when they think of my name, the image they see is a cotton toy of the same name. They don't remember how they dreamed me one night when they were too young to realize how many animals they melded together. But I remember them. My imaginary friend. Though some of the other dreams tease me about being so attached after being forgotten, in my reality, they are still very real.

They have changed over the years.

Instead of laughing in the sunshine they wear a slight smile in the shade, as if they can't bring herself to do a proper belly-laugh. They stopped drinking carrot juice, now their treat is a stinky drink that makes them silly. They don't roll in the grass, they doesn't even walk barefoot in it anymore! Now their adventures feel dangerous rather than full of mischievous glee. I wish I could keep the nightmares away but they got so strong, so very strong, and they made them stronger by trying to lock them away. Looking at them makes me feel sad sometimes, but I still watch over them. Lately I feel closer to them when I try and reach out in dreams, like they are finally ready to play again. I hope so! It's lonely being forgotten, and I really want to make them laugh again. A proper belly-laugh in the sunlight. Then we can fight the nightmares together, and go on even grander adventures then ever before.
