"I'll tell you what. Everyone here's got a problem. They're sociopaths, psychopaths, delusional, paranoid, scared, panicking. You ever look around and wonder the why of it all? I mean, we ain't getting out, so why waste all this time and effort on trying? Me, hell, I ain't got no reason to leave. I mean, let's face it. I'm safe here." Jack grinned that manic, toothy grin of his, drumming his pale white fingers on the rusted bars of the cell.
"I suppose." A deep voice, unamused, but not all too hostile greeted the slender albino man from the darkness beyond the chained door. Leaning up against it, the latter faced the wall opposite the prison-like enclosure casually, knowing full well the man within wouldn't show his face.
"I'll give you my two cents, Fifteen," he continued, as if no one had spoken. "We've been around the longest, and yet they know the least about us. You're a legend, you know, and I'm just good at staying out of things. Could be our greatest advantage, really. You have to treat this whole place, this situation... it's a game. The others are burdened by this need to get the hell out. You and me, well... we ain't like that. The three of us, we're free, Fifteen."
Somewhere in the darkness, a man blinked. As of his last count, there were definitely only two people there.
(Outdated) Concept
Jack Yandell, quite simply, has multiple personalities. Two, specifically. The interesting thing to note here, though, is how the split isn't nearly as noticeable as one might expect from your classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Instead, the dominant persona of talkative, eccentric, and morally unstable Jack has envisioned his passive persona, Jyl, as something of a close sibling. The latter is less talkative, less creative (and more analytical), and is many times more twisted than Jack. Having lived with each other mentally since childhood, however, the switch between the two is nearly seamless and hardly noticeable.
Due to this near-seamless transition, Yandell has managed, overall, to lead what most have considered a normal life, until, it is assumed, something broke. Be it a split between two already separate personalities or some unfortunate life event, no one knows. But within weeks, Yandell went from being a seemingly everyday 30-something bachelor to being one of the first patients admitted to the newly established Sylver Gates Asylum for the Criminally Insane. Few know this, for few know the institution even exists. That's as the government wants it, though. SGA is not exactly engaged in the most legal of practices. And yet surprisingly, Jack and Jyl actually do more than just survive there. Always maintaining that the Asylum is the only thing keeping them safe, the man known to most only as Jack Yandell is one of few who would willingly say they "thrive" there.
Though... psychologist Dr. Paran Zared Morpheus did note some rather chilling nursery rhyme nonsense scribbled on a crumpled sheet of paper...
Jack and Jyl were brothers dear
to one another bound,
but Jyl did grin, for Jack had sinned,
and sewed tight his brother's mouth.
Silent Jyl did vow revenge
And with his crooked smile
Cut out Jack's eyes, despite his cries
Still grinning all the while.
