Though he comes across as curmudgeonly and antisocial, Klark inherited an entire hotel building from his mother upon her passing, and he chose to use the property to house LGBTQ+ people who are down on their luck. He doesn't charge rent, only asks that the inhabitants of the building maintain the space and help one another out when possible. As a result, those who move on from the space - dubbed Rainbow House by Klark's husband, and enthusiastically adopted by current and past residents - tend to donate their time and funds back to the cause when they're able. Thus, a stunningly effective nonprofit and commune of sorts was born. Everyone who knows Klark well knows that his grouchy act is just that, an act, and that he's actually a big softie. One only has to look at how much work he puts into Rainbow House to see how true that is.

If he isn't trudging around the hotel doing maintenance, he's usually collapsed in a chair in his husband's diner and bakery, enjoying a giant and regularly-replenished mug of black coffee. The constant vibe of irritation really just comes from how exhausted he always is; Klark is a workaholic by nature, and since he genuinely cares about the residents of Rainbow House, he works himself even harder than he might naturally be inclined to. It's fortunate that Dan is such a warm and nurturing person, since he helps take care of Klark and ensure that he doesn't push himself as hard as he could.

He has a history of gambling which led to some unsavory other activities, but has thankfully kicked the habit. Founding Rainbow House really helped him get his priorities in order, though he had a good bit of help from Dan. That said, he does enjoy a casual game of poker every now and again, with low or no stakes. He likes to gamble for free coffee or pastries with the residents of the hotel.

Klark keeps reptiles, though usually it's only until he can find good homes for them; he rescues them either from residents who can no longer care for them or from local vets who have abandoned ones. He does have one snake of his own, though, a beautiful black rat snake he's named Happy. She's a very social girl who likes to spend time coiled around Klark's shoulders.
