If ten million fireflies
Lit up the world as I fell asleep
'Cause they fill the open air
And leave teardrops everywhere
You'd think me rude but I would just stand and stare"

Part I
It was a summer night in June, and Erica was watching the stars. She laid her head back against the cool grass, one skinny arm clutching the book of constellation myths against her chest and the other reaching up to trace the patterns in the sky.
“There’s Orion the Hunter,” she recited to herself. “The son of Poseiden and enemy of the scorpion.” Her voice was small and thin, and she imagined her words floating up towards the sky. “This one’s Pegasus - the immortal winged horse that carried Zeus’ lighting bolts.” And she outlined Pegasus’ wings as she said this.
The night breeze scattered the pages of her math homework across the grassy field. She made a half-hearted reach for them, but allowed them to disappear into the grass and into the woods in the distance. Instead, she propped an arm behind her head and resumed watching the stars.
She was just about to finish drawing Leo, the mythical lion, when she noticed a particularly bright star on the tip of its tail. Strange, she thought to herself. That star wasn’t there before. As she watched, the little star grew brighter and brighter. It became a pinpoint, then a ball of blazing light. It’s a falling star, she realized. The star raced across the sky now, a white-hot trail in its wake. The air around her crackled and hissed as the star flew directly overhead and then crashed, with the sound of thunder, directly into the woods at the edge of the field.
Erica ran towards the woods. The air smelled of sulfur and ash. Around the crash site laid the splintered and smoking remains of the trees that had been in the star's path. In the middle of the woods, right where the star fell, was a young boy.
“Hello,” he said, turning towards Erica. His sandy brown hair lay around his head like a half-formed mane, and his eyes were the silver-grey of stardust. “My apologies, but I think I’ve taken a wrong turn. Do you know the way to Ursa Minor?”
