~ Bloody Freedoms Part II ~

======================

Smoke. Gagging, toxic smoke was filling his lungs. Mists shook wildly, looking for an exit, any exit, to escape. It was happening again. He knew it was. His mother was in the den, and he knew that she was going to be murdered at any instant. The worst part was that he could do nothing about it.

__

MistsofDreams awoke to the voice of his best friend, Silver Storm. Silver and him had been best friends ever since Mist's mother died ten years ago. Although Silver was an Endeavor, they got along quite well.

"Mists, wake up!" Silver Storm whispered.

Sitting up, Mists looked at Silver Storm calmly and said " Silver, I know that this isn't your style, but really, arent you pushing it a bit today? I mean, its only 4 o clock in the morning."

Silver Storm laughed. " Well, I have to go on a mission. Do you want to come with me?" Silver paused. Then, with a gleam in his eye, he said " Its to the place with all the curses."

" What? The Shadowlands?" asked Mists, surprised. Thinking about it for a second, he then said " Alright, Ill go with you . . . I wouldnt want my best buddy getting hurt, now would I?"

And with that, they left the Dream clan's camp and headed off.

As they flew, Mists had a lot on his mind. The Cadogres strongly followed their hearts. They were generally free-willed, and most of them believed in following their hearts. They were also strong interpreters of stars and dreams. Mists' clan, the Dream clan, was no different.

Mists had been thinking about taking off for a long time now. He wanted to find his own self, the self that he knew would never develop in this land.

I need to get closer to the stars. Mists thought one day, as he was gazing into the sky.

Mists looked over at Silver. Sometimes, he wished that his life could be like his friend's. Silver might have many restrictions, but at least he knew who he was. At least he was structured. At least his clan, unlike the Cadogre clan, believed in working as a group instead of as individuals.

Mists sighed. " You know, Silver. . . "

Silver looked over, puzzled. " What is it, Mists?"

Mists gazed at the turquoise sky. " I've been thinking . . . I want to go away somewhere. To find my true self, you know?"

Silver was silent.

"Wouldnt it be wonderful to fly to new places?", Mists continued. "To dream under new stars? I would love to see what those stars are like up close."

Silver muttered " You know that I can't leave this place."

" And of course, I could never leave you."

They flew on in silence, their wings beating in unison.

Of course I could never leave you. thought Mists. You're the only family I have. You're like a brother to me.

_______

Mists was plunging into the sky, far far away from that terrible place.

WHY? thought Mists. WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN?

He gained speed, trying to forget, trying to escape the event that just happened. Silver's death seemed to tower over him like a gigantic shadow.

Mists flew on, his heart overcome with pure sorrow. The tears blurred his eyes, but to Mists, it didn't matter. He just kept flying up, and up, as fast as he could.

When the tears finally stopped, Mists looked around him. He was in outer space, and he had left Subeta far, far behind.

As Mists looked back, even his sorrow could not contain his marvel. The world looked so small to him.

And there's my world. thought Mists. It was never all too big to begin with.

Mists inhaled. The atmosphere was so calm. So silent, as if the universe had inhaled with him.

I wish Silver was here to see this. thought Mists sadly. He would love this. He would love to be this free.

Another moment of silence.

Why? pondered Mists. I wanted to find myself. I wanted freedom, but not this.

He could feel the tears stinging in his eyes again, and Mists was about to turn around when he heard a voice.

" Dearest Mists. Is that you?"

Mists froze. He had not heard that voice in what seemed like ages. It had been ten years.

" Mom?" Mists' voice was shaking. " Is it really you?"

" Dearest Mists," said the voice mystically. " I am no longer a living body. However, my spirit lives on."

A sparkling mist appeared in front of him, and the silhouette of a Cadogre formed.

" You can join me if you want." offered the voice. " We can finally live together with the others."

" The others?" asked Mists. " What others?"

" The others that have fought to find themselves." answered the voice, drifting away. " The others, just like you."

" Wait!" shouted Mists. " How do I find you?"

As if some sort of power had overcome him, Mists felt this overwhelming sense of calmness and spirituality. He was changing. The stars drifted around him. His armor was becoming a dark shade of blue.

However, Mists was not alarmed. He finally felt at peace with himself.

If only Silver could be here now, Mists thought. If only we could fly together one last time.

A single tear slid down Mists' cheek.

When the stars stopped drifting around Mists, he silently flew away into the darkness of space. __________________________________________
