STORY

Cobalt lived deep underground in the silver mine, hidden away from all humans. He would never show himself, but the humans knew he was there. Tales were told of his hideous appearance, his treacherous nature. Cobalt was despised by the miners, as they believed he poisoned them - when digging for ore, the miners were fooled into believing they had found copper or silver, only to find when smelting that it was worthless ore..and sometimes releasing toxic pollutants after smelting.

The miners did all they could to try to appease Cobalt, in the hopes he would end his deceitful ways. They left offerings of gold and silver in the mines, and promised to treat him with kindness - if he stopped poisoning them.

Sometimes the miners would hear knocking sounds while digging, and were certain it was Cobalt trying to communicate with them. Some believed he was telling them where the best places were to dig for their precious metals, while some believed he was warding them away from the danger of collapsing tunnels.

In reality, unknown to the miners, all Cobalt wanted was for them to leave the mines, permanently - and never come back. He wanted the peace and stillness he had enjoyed before they encroached on his domain. It was, after all, his home. He had no desire for contact with anyone, or anything. The humans were destroying his natural habitat, and Cobalt had no choice but to try everything in his power to make them leave.
