Home Is Where The Hearth Is

Hearthstone is a bipedal red dragon that lives within the sleepy little town of Sallow's Gate. It is currently unknown how they even got their start in town as it seemed as if one day they simply appeared and set up a little inn called The Harped Hearth. It's sits in this middle of town and is highly regarded as one of the best places to eat as the owner tends to cook for breakfast, lunch and even dinner. She has not told anyone her real name though prefers to be called Ms. Hearthstone. She's six foot tall and has a warm and gentle face that would put even the most vile of criminals at ease. She is adorned in a set of three gold bands around both arms and legs. Her wings have a set of three gold piercings that run along the length, one at the top, middle and bottom. Her red scales shimmer in the lantern light that her inn has to offer and can be quite distracting when sitting out in the common area. Often she stays behind the reception desk and quietly carving away at different strange looking stones as she waits for newcomers. There is no set time for food either as she prefers to make meals fresh instead of leaving it to attract unwanted guests. Though if an order is changed or the customer prefers a different dish then she will pack the food away in a bowl and send one of her dragon helpers out to gift it to someone who needs a nice meal. Ms. Hearthstone doesn't conversate too much but if you give off a similar aura to her she will be comfortable enough to speak freely.
Ms. Hearthstone has an army of small dragons that assist her with the care of her inn and rumor has it that they were the ones able to build the place overnight, hence why it just suddenly "appeared" out of thin air. She'll never spill those beans though! The tiny dragons are the ones people will interact with most though many of them don't speak but use a series of squeaks. A large handmade poster sits in the common area that teaches customers what these squeaks mean and that they have a responsibility to learn or they're welcome to leave if they're not fond of the idea. The worst thing one can do is actively threaten one of these little dragons as Ms. Hearthstone has sharp ears and will seem to teleport into the room if she hears so much as an angry whisper directed at her precious family. Many people believe these dragons are the product of black market hunters destroying families and leaving these smalls behind because they're "worthless" due to their size. Others think that the Cult of Paradise Lost has some hand in the uptick of missing beings as they tend to target both human and creature alike. Ms. Hearthstone is a book of secrets though and will not talk about how she came across these little dragons but warn that they are to be respected lest they wish to end up burned to a crisp.
If one does not have cash payment for their stay then Ms. Hearthstone will find a new way for the customer to make the payment. She doesn't make them do impossible tasks but requests can range from assisting with cleaning the common area or perhaps the customer can tell her a funny joke or offer some incredible wisdom. Of course at her age she's pretty much heard it all but it definitely helps her judge characters should her requests be taken up. Sometimes the dragon lady will get some attitude in regards to the cleaning request though a quick glance and a furrowed face speaks far more sense into customers than any words she could conjure. Sometimes the customer will be wearing something of interest like a scarf or a jacket or maybe a shiny trinket that has piqued her curiosity. She will only request these articles of clothing or jewelry if the customer has been particularly difficult. If one is an exceptionally respectful customer she will offer up one of the strange looking stones she carves as a "souvenir". When asked what it does she replies with: "It will remind you of home." So far no one has been able to figure out exactly what she means. The only thing that seems to happen when holding the stone is that the marking will glow a pastel blue if you think of either the Inn itself or your own home.

"Miss Hearthstone, what does this do?"
"Why, if you hold it close it will remind you of home."
"Remind you of home?"
"Yes."
"But where's home?"
"Hehe, where the heart is of course!"

Ekko
A cute fox spirit that Ms. Hearthstone has met a time or two while sending her dragons out to deliver unwanted meals. She remembers them looking a little more solid but had heard gunshots in the forest and feared the poor thing had been hunted. The next time she saw them it was true, the apparition could now be found teasing local children and messing with lit candles. She only ever had a problem with them once as they tried to extinguish the lit lanterns in the common area but a good scolding got the fella on the right track. Sometimes if she cannot stand a rather obnoxious customer she will send for Ekko to give them a terrible scare and get them out of her establishment. Ever since they've been kind acquaintances.

Kendel

A strange moss covered tiger that can often be seen hanging out with Ekko. Well, can be seen if you have the sharp eyes of a dragon that is as it's almost impossible to tell that Kendel is even a breathing creature from the distance. The tiger conjures beautiful flowers all year long and so Ms. Hearthstone made it a mission to befriend the large feline. Ekko helped introduce the dragon lady to his best friend and her kind demeanor quickly won Kendel over. It was like she was a mother figure and he appreciated that. He has since planted patches of roses around her establishment to not only beautify the place but also keep her small dragon family protected from danger as there has been a number of rude customers that have chased them outside. Unfortunately rumor has it they met with a terrible fate after Ms. Hearthstone caught up to them but Kendel's quite the secret keeper himself so you'll never get those stories out of him.

Sallow's GateThe cozy little town Ms. Hearthstone decided to set up shop in after her old establishment was mysteriously destroyed in a freak thunderstorm incident. She originally was living on the very outskirts of Scarset City and took pride in her work there as many locals would come and stay just to get away from city life for a while. She was even voted best bed and breakfast one year! Her little dragon family was well loved too and she rarely had problems with entitled customers. Unfortunately a strange storm rolled into town one day and ruined much of the beach as well as a few shops on the boardwalk. Ms. Hearthstone was just close enough to be caught in this awful storm and a bolt of lightning struck her home and burned it to the ground. She was lucky her family was out foraging and she was just a room away from where the bolt landed so she was able to escape with her life. One of the few things she was able to recover was the award she had won and it is displayed proudly in her current home. She swears if she finds the creature that caused such damage to her home she would not hesitate getting revenge for the loss.
