story
Despite vividly remembering crashing your car, you're only slightly achy, and that's probably from sleeping for god knows how long on the ground. You WERE in cornfields, and now you're... here. In this mystical garden, overwhelmed by flowers, and trees, and miscellaneous plants, and more flowers... Which is pretty, but it sure as hell ain't home, and you'd really like to get back there!
You turn a corner around a weeping willow tree and freeze; you have been being watched, and the one watching you... is here.
The creature in front of you is definitely draconic in nature, though significantly more Eastern-style lung than European-style dragon. The fur is an interesting touch, though, giving them a distinctly borzoi-esque flair. Much like a dog, they also have claws and teeth... though again, the horns stand out. All of them could do some pretty decent damage to you, though, if their owner wanted.
Not to mention, y'know, the whole ~magic~ thing.
They are surrounded at all times by a trail of purple... magic? Fairy dust? That follows them, much like a neat javascript mouse cursor effect. So they're definitely magical. And now, the bestial, magical being is wanting to know what you were doing in their garden. Their magical garden, probably.
"Yes, it most CERTAINLY IS magical!" they snap, their tail flicking irritably. "Which, again, begs the question, what were you doing there? Hmmm? Stealing from me? I AM a world-renowned wizard, as I'm sure you know, so that perhaps, would make the most sense. Oh! Or perhaps a SPY, sent here to gather information of my gardens by a rival wizard, warlock, witch, mage? Oh! Oh! It is simply TRYING, you see, being the most beautiful and magically talented creature on the planet," they lament, placing a paw atop their brow dramatically... though, one eye remains open, and trained directly on you.
"I... I don't know who you are, or where I am," you admit. "I got in a car crash after falling asleep at the wheel driving through a bunch of cornfields, and woke up here. Thankfully in tact," you quickly add, not wanting to tempt fate further than you already had.
The wizard simply stares at you, paw removed from their forehead, both eyes on you. "Oh. They then place their paw at their chin, stroking their long snout thoughtfully... before rearing up on their hind legs, claws bared, purple lightning shooting from paw to paw and back as your surroundings grow dark. "I AM THE GREAT AND ELEGANT DRAGON WIZARD, THEY OF BEAUTY AND POWER!!!" Everything stops for a moment, before they stop showing off, the light returning to the area, the magical lightning gone, and they get back on all fours. "But you, dear traveler, may call me... Lark." A brief pause. "The Fair," they finish, clearly expecting you to be impressed.
Maybe you are, maybe you aren't, but you remain deadpan as you reply. "Thanks, Lark. It's, uh, good to meet you too, I think? Could, be under better circumstances, though..." To which Lark huffs haughtily, flipping their head (and therefore, their mane), and nearly dislodging the flower crown from their head.
"Oh, my new human friend, please fret not, for meeting with Lark, the Fair, is an omen of good fortune! Please understand, the tide of your luck is about to turn!" Without another word, they beckon you to follow them, and start marching through the garden, making a beeline for... oh god, you hadn't looked up yet, too concerned with your business that brought you to the garden in the first place. A spindly, rickety (in looks, but almost certainly not in actual construction) wizard's tower, stretching up into the clouds, like something out of a Ghibli movie. Okay, now that's kinda impressive.
You follow your new friend (?) into their towering wizard hut, though, at least yet, they don't lead you up. Rather, you two stay on the ground floor, in the vestibule or atrium or whatever the front room of a wizard tower is called. "So... uh. Not to be rude, but do you know how I can get back home? Where I'm from, there's... there's not like, dragons -- you're a dragon, right? -- and mythical creatures. Well, one time I did run into this weird living 90's toy fursuit creature, but that's probably an outlier? I do tend to be a weirdness magnet..." You fall deep into thought as Lark considers your words.
"What is a 'fursuit'?" they demand to know, and you realize you have made a grave mistake.
"Um. Nevermind," you say, parrying their question. "Do you know how I can get out of here though? Not that, not that I'm not... appreciative of your hospitality--"
"Oh!" Lark suddenly cries, dashing around your legs and nearly knocking you over in order to grab something, their question about fursuits long forgotten. They rear up on their hind legs again, but this time not to try and impress you, but solely to grab something off of a shelf behind you. When you whip around, you realize that they are grabbing a map. "Now, we are going to go upstairs, I shall make us some tea, and we shall pour over these maps to figure out from whence you came, and I shall guide you back home!" Lark declares. You have a feeling it won't be that easy, given the whole 'car crash' thing. But what do you know? Not a whole hell of a lot here, apparently.
As you begin climbing the stairs, following Lark's lead, you wonder if you've made a mistake; this... Lark (the Fair) does seem to be competent in many ways, but... you wonder. You Wonder. That being said, it couldn't be worse than the mistake you had already made today (falling asleep while driving and crashing your car), and the mistake you'd nearly made just maybe half an hour ago (sneaking into some rando's garden in order to steal food and then almost telling them to their face that that's what you were doing). God, what would Lark have even done? Turned you into a bird or something? ... ... Probably yeah, actually. You shut your mouth and keep climbing the stairs, hoping that whenever, if-ever, you return home, you aren't still in the middle of those damnedable cornfields that hypnotized you and got you into this mess to begin with.
