In the beginning of the world magic was a great source of power for many things. It was only natural to explore the borders between life and death. Some went further down the dark paths than others: the necromancers, shadow talkers, and even the ancient reapers spring from these roots. The moon was not unaffected by these trials of magic. A deity emerged one forlorn midnight hour during the darkest new winter moon. She was a beautiful winged unicorn, small, velvet black, and drifts of silvery light floated about her obsidian horn like stars in the night sky. Her blood ran hot like quicksilver, but her heart was as cold as the dark side of the moon and as distant as the vast void of space.
Most of her time is spent as the alicorn, drifting in the cosmos, but she can also change form to a woman with bone white skin, black hair, and antlers. She can also become a small black owl if need be. She has a cottage hidden away where no one might suspect who or what she really is, it's where she keeps her minion, a smart Raven named Havnar. He's actually bigger than her when she's in bird form and he's great company. Kibeth's only ever felt the pull to do what's in her nature and her magic allows her to see the landscape beyond her world. It allows her to bring people across the last river, to death, or keep them out. It looks like a colorless, distant desert landscape, and reminds her of the cold, dead moon.
Centuries pass and eventually she's called upon less and less, and she finds herself thinking of the moon more and more. Tired of the world she leaves her cottage to Havnor. Using her alicorn magic she ventures back into the void of space and ignores the world for the most part, content to be left alone on the moon. Until she is caught.
Beyond all belief, a high sorcerer named Merlin captures her. It's only for a few moments, but it's enough to get what she needs. The moment Kibeth could escape the strange contraption she vanished like smoke, using all her godly powers to manifest out of the current plane and get somewhere unreachable. She would never let it happen again she vowed and so she waited, quietly, but no one came after her and she moved cautiously on. It wasn't until years later that Kibeth would suddenly stop and not be able to catch her breath for a moment. When she would come to her knees as she searched inside herself because suddenly she felt an ache where she had always been numb before. It alarmed her and she immediately began a desperate search to find out what it was.
From Kibeth, Clov was created. And in doing so Merlin inadvertently gave the great Kibeth her heart. It was an unfortunate and unforeseen consequence. The powerful creation named Clov, after the constellation Clover, was also an alicorn but he was snow white, large, strong, steady, and powerful. He's a fiery burning star, where she is the void. He can heal wounds and sickness and purify water with his horn. He was created to protect and serve Merlin and her people.
Another side effect of creating Clov from Kibeth was that it seemed they could sense one another through time and space. At first he didn't know what it was, but Merlin guessed, and so she hid the reason from him and tried to remove it before he could discover it for himself. Clov, though loyal, would not be left in the dark forever. One night he used his powers, unsanctioned, and he found himself meeting Kibeth face to face upon the dry shifting sands of the half-full moon. She is instantly drawn to him like a moth to a flame. She is his beginning and he would protect her until his end. She is strongest during the dark moon and he is strongest during the full moon. They are forever entwined.
But, unlike his creator, Clov is not entirely immortal. Merlin repaired him countless times, reforming him, and spelling him to stay young and strong. He was to forever guard and protect Prash. Merlin was young back then and Kibeth was a wild card because she wouldn't and couldn't be controlled. She would follow Clov and Clov followed Merlin, but Merlin was wise enough to fathom the risk involved and wonder how long it would last. She was a formidable weapon but that didn't make Merlin feel better, she was unfettered and dangerous, tied to them only through Clov. It seemed that the problem was taken out of her hands however, as she vanished mysteriously, without a trace. Despite the ensuing chaos left by the void of the High Sorcerer it was still a few centuries before Clov's body couldn't take anymore. Without Merlin to care for him, his body gave out. Kibeth was beyond reproach, driven to insanity. She can feel that he is still alive somehow, somewhere, and she will search until the end of time for him.
Centuries pass, they are all but myths to the world, until a desperate quest is launched to reanimate the ancient cloven protector to help save the world. The adventurers don't know about Kibeth, but in finding one you will inevitably find the other. She has ended up wandering through the cracked and dry desert of death, lost in grief, obsessed with finding him. She is haunted, searching the underworld for the other part of her soul.
She was always his greatest weakness... Maybe that was one of the reasons his bones were left to rot in the desert sun. After all, why did the greatest wizard of all time let her strongest creation die?
Perhaps we could become better friends, seeing as we see at a similar level but for now I am far to busy.
