The Amphibian
Hungry | Gecko | Alien
Eyelids came down over these eyes sometimes in calm, quick blinks. These eyelids were a very pale greyish blue, so thin in fact that the green was nearly visible behind them, and if light was shone on them, they did not protect her pupils from being hurt, and her eyelids seemed to disappear even when closed beneath strong enough direct light.
Her hair was a dark gingery auburn brown, and she had thick, full bangs cut bluntly along her forehead just above her alien eyes, in a pretty way. At present, the rest of her hair disappeared behind her shoulders, which were still hidden in shadow. Her hands were braced on the floor, as she had been crawling on all fours in the room, trying to hide. These fingers were feminine, and graceful looking, but they were the same greyish blue as her eyelids (though far less see-through, though again, under light, every single vein and bone could be seen) and they were webbed. The suctions on her palms were currently hidden, however, but to the touch, they were soft, like a jellyfish.
Her mouth opened in a smile, a perfect, full smile, too wide and full of sharp teeth, exactly like the Cheshire cat, with the way she glowed like a disembodied head from the dark room. Her teeth were sharp and white, and her smooth face that did not even wrinkle with the stretching of her lips, which in such a setting made it seem to be a frightening, artificial display.
She stood then, casting her head into shade, and lighting her from her flat belly down. She wore no clothing, and her skin was perfectly hairless, though her body was so alien that she did not seem naked. She stepped out with bare feet, toes webbed like her fingers, though it was less pronounced than it was on her hands, fully into the light. She was short, with a body like a little girl, except a little more curvy, with thick, muscular thighs, which was her most pronounced feature. Her bare chest was small, and her skin was white with a grayish blue cast to it, and it was just barely translucent. Her inner organs could not be human, because where her heart palpitated visibly within her chest, there was a small, flashing light, a dull pulsing that sometimes sped up or slowed down, flickered and froze like an unhealthy heart, though hers was in perfect working order. When relaxed, which was how she typically was, it was a dull glow that slightly brightened and dimmed steadily. It wasn't strong enough to light anything, though in pitch dark, she would give off a faint glow, though not specifically from her heart.
None of her skeleton showed, though occasional flashes of dim light shot through her limbs or torso, almost like the glimmerings on a silver thread, or power surges on a very fine circuit. Her skin was more opaque on her limbs, torso and face than it was on her hands and feet, over her chest, or tail. It had an almost milky white quality to it beneath its grayish blue tone, but she looked like a fish that lived on the darkest bottom of the ocean, in sight and texture. She didn't seem suited to come to the surface world, though she was. Auburn freckles peppered her skin thickly, most heavily on her shoulders, arms, and torso, like nutmeg sprinkled in a grayish eggnog. This hair of a similar color, was thick and fluffy, with a slight wave to it that manifested in subtle, rolling curls, and it ended in a freshly-trimmed line just past her chest, though she didn't bother to wear it modestly forward over her shoulders, not that she really needed to. She had a long tail, but it was lightweight though it rested in a chameleon-like curl on the floor behind her, looking somehow more glossy than the rest of her.
Her smile widened, as if she enjoyed this game, and in a flash, she had moved, and almost before the eye could track the way her grayish body crawled the white walls, she was on the ceiling. Her red hair hung downwards, looking like a wig that had gotten hooked on the ceiling, lifted off a person's head. Her back was facing down, and her palms and the soles of her feet were pressed to the ceiling. She scrambled like a salamander across the vertical glass of an aquarium, scuttling in that S motion, lizard-like, her tail dragging along behind her, as if gravity had been reversed, and the ceiling was now the floor. She ran like a millipede runs: swiftly and unnaturally.
The soldier detailed to her went after her with his enhanced speed, and locked his fingers into her dangling hair to yank her down off the ceiling. She winced as she was jerked to the ground by him so brutally, but she didn't give a gasp of pain, though she did swear in a strangely guttural voice, as though she had a lot of fluid in her lungs. It was presumably swearing, as it made absolutely no sense. It did not even sound human. This was not the most fun game, since she never ended up with a kill, and she always lost, but it definitely beat being locked in her austere room. She twisted within the oily black arms of the soldier, craning her head and neck, but back towards his covered face, not to try and bite his neck, which she knew she couldn't do. This exposed her long, ghostly white neck, which was lined on either side with gills, which pulsed and fluttered as she heaved from exertion, showing a surprisingly red lining within each slit, proving that her skin was deceptive in how it hid her vibrant human blood and flesh, save for the very faint pinkish tinge she had.
Her lips were a maroonish brown-burgundy, stark on her face, but they fit, with her dark hair and intense eyes, almost as though her full lips were the color of her freckles, though they were more reddish and light. She looked vulnerable in this position, and she was, her neck exposed while she postured this way, almost as if she were asking for a kiss, but she knew that they were discouraged from hurting her, so she did not worry about this vulnerability. Instead of hurting him or showing him affection, however, her body that was both girlish and womanly arced back against him one way, and then sprang the other to give her momentum, spitting an enormous quantity of goo from her mouth, in hopes of splashing it across his face. It was saliva, but it was more sticky and thick, though it remained plenty runny enough to run down his face and onto his neck and clothing. She could also spit almost like an Archer Fish, which could shoot streams of water at prey to bring them down to the surface.
Her skin was soft beneath his touch, almost too soft, as though if he dug his fingers in enough, he would be able to pierce her like jelly, though this wasn't the case. Instead it would just press inward, like normal skin, except thicker, more cushiony. This wasn't something anyone would probably want to try, however, since the texture of her was so nearly unpleasant. Her skin was slick, as if coated with a layer of slime, more residual and part of her than water, and it was what kept her from drying out. It wasn't as unpleasant as her spit, which was loo-gee like. Rather it was barely slippery at times, dewy at others, and always felt like a cool, thin gel. It didn't leave a residue when it dried, but it wouldn't dry naturally for a long time, having to be wiped off. Another soldier kept his gun pointed at her heart even though shooting her, sending a bullet crushing through her soft, delicate body, would likely kill the soldier behind her as well.
The girl tensed and then started to thrash in the soldier's arms, a wild reaction of fear. She started to speak, then, her words garbled and meaningless, but her tone conveyed something like a verbose way of saying, 'I dare you to try it, you scum. I'll tear your heart out and eat in in front of you before it stops beating.' It was probably best that she didn't speak English, for these were the sort of colorful, friendly phrases that often passed her lips. She ate raw meat whenever possible, torturing it not before killing the prey, but before eating it alive. Of course, there was not as much of that as she would like in this captivity, but the guards were sometimes sympathetic enough to toss her a fish or even a rabbit, which she managed to mutilate so thoroughly that they always regretted it later, no matter how much they might pity the female.
Her tail now snaked around the soldier's legs, binding them together at the ankles with her surprisingly powerful tail (what she usually used to strangle or grip in a fight) to make movement as difficult as if she had tied his shoelaces together. The other soldier stormed over to her, fisting his hand in the crown of her hair, so like a normal woman's tresses, and forced her head back, sideways a little bit to show the side of her white neck again. The freckles clustered more thickly there before they ran out onto her shoulders, dappling over her gills, making her look like a beautiful sea creature. She almost had a thick jelly membrane instead of skin. Mieli stopped struggling for a moment, but suddenly her tail released the first soldier's legs and swung up and around slap the side of the second soldier's knee almost hard enough to dislocate it, and it had happened incredibly quickly. Her thick tail could move like a whip, faster than the rest of her could move.
This made the attacked soldier crumple to the side. Before he could hit the ground or regain his balance, her knee smashed up into his available gut, and it knocked him backwards heavily. The girl stopped struggling after felling him, not trying to escape from the first soldier any longer. Mieli's gills flared dramatically as she dragged in oxygen, gritting her teeth as the air whistled over the delicate folds lining the tissues of her gills. She held her neck funny, and her fluffy auburn hair fell over her left shoulder blade, exposing the top bump of her spine at the base of her neck, and then the chip implanted in her skin. It wasn't really necessary since Mieli was always eager enough to kill anyone they sicced her on, greatly enjoying that part of her lifestyle, in fact. She was also, believe it or not, pretty obedient and tame, as she would never try to attack her master. Regardless, the chip provided good security, and it was beautiful in an eerie way, the way it showed up clearly beneath the first few layers of her translucent skin. She moved as the first soldier guided her from the room, and her feet made soft squelching sounds as she did so, not like suction cups, but more like wet, soft flip flops.
Experiment 886 did not like the soldier's gloved grip. It felt rough on her delicate skin, so obsessed as she was with texture, moisture, and temperature. It was her greatest strength and her greatest weakness. The ability to breathe on land or water was incredibly useful, and she could also function perfectly well in extremely humid climates, that would slow down most other soldiers. She could even manage fairly well for a short time in a desert, though she hated it. Her favorite place to be was under water, looking up through the surface to grab unsuspecting prey, but she did well almost anywhere. Her skin, however, to be so versatile, both breathable and permeable, while still slick, was too tender, and bothered by sensations. She would be far more vulnerable then even normal creatures, for example, to torture with fire, or sandpaper (the latter being something like what the soldier's fingers felt like to her) or any other matter of surface abrasions save for cutting, which she was actually more tolerant to. At the same time, an object could be pushed into her body (by first making an incision) and stay there rather easily.
For all her flexibility, she was not durable in a physical sense in any way, easy to overpower once she was caught, and extremely susceptible to almost any weapon. Yet perhaps her greatest gift came not as a fighter or even as a spy, but in her ability to sense things that other people couldn't. Toxins in the air, poison in water, how much useable oxygen was in the atmosphere, and where it came from. She could locate water or greenery from miles away, but not from smell, rather through a sense in her permeable skin. Though this made her an incredible creation, it again made her more susceptible to noxious substances. Soldiers were not allowed to smoke near her, and she could smell it on the ones who did, and she worked extra hard to make their lives miserable, since the stench cut into her lungs like knives, and made her skin ache all over. There was one extra feature in her room, an open-topped glass rectangle that functioned as a bath tub. Immediately once she was back inside, she slipped into it, clawing at her upper arm with harmless fingers to try and erase the feeling of the soldier's hand there. She watched the soldier's back from under water, with almost-glowing eyes, while the water soothed her. Her beautiful lips, as if she were wearing a burgundy lipstick, were open while she sucked in the water, and then her gills, which were flared, pressed inward to pull the liquid over the filaments of gill tissue, extracting the oxygen from the water. Her hair floated around her, dark and slick as wet mahogany wood. After a moment, she pulled up again, and her gills fluttered to get rid of excess water in them, before her lungs took over again, though she could and did breathe using both, no matter on land or in sea, though the appropriate one did take leadership in its respective role.
Her bangs almost hung into her eyes when wet, and her hair streamed down her like silk, over her chest, shoulders, and back. She did not try to dry off or wring the water from herself as she stepped out again, sloshing copious amounts of water on the floor, which was stone, and sloped toward a drain. Something about her, though, suggested that she had actually absorbed some of the water, for her cheeks were a little rounder, her thighs were a little more bulky, and she shimmed as though she were being looked at through a layer of clear water, though the water was within her, beneath her somewhat see-through skin. Her feet squelched softly on the stone, more quiet a noise now that she was wet, but by no means silent, though she could be when she wanted to be.
Her hand stretched slowly through the bars of her door, as, unsurprisingly, she was given no privacy. Her fingers were spread, displaying the completely translucent membrane between each one, the light shining through it in a way that would have been beautiful, had it not been so alien. The few nerves she did have there were as transparent as her skin, making her look just like a jelly fish. Her palms were strange, as if a small tissue was stick to the center of each palm and draped downward, except this tissue was clear, and it clung to her hand better than that, forming more than one suction cup. The tip of each finger was ridged almost as if with gills, though it was scarcely noticeable, and it was actually just to help her cling to surfaces better. This ridging was very soft and squishy. The bottoms of her feet were much the same as her hands.
These extremely gentle feeling hands, so strange that they hardly felt like hands at all, at first, came to settle on the soldier's tail, lightly as a caress. She made a quiet, pleading murmur, asking him for mercy through her tone in some form, whether it was releasing her, bringing her prey, or just being her ally. She didn't know that what she asked was impossible. This soldier was one of the few she wasn't desperate to kill, not out of any kindness, but because he seemed the least edible. He showed barely any skin, and his head was encased in that helmet. Of course, she could smell his organic life blood through her nose on the end of her tiny, pointed muzzle, and more importantly, she could feel his heat through her skin. That was the case with everyone, however, and this man was as shiny as metal, and so strange that she almost believed in her simplistic mind that he wasn't living matter. No matter what he was, she would attempt to eat him if given the chance, even if he were her last ally in the world.
