TL;DR : Gentiane in 3 sentences

Gentiane is a nurse "gifted" with immunity to zombieness but she doesn't give up finding a way to turn into a zombie, to see the one she loves again. While doing that, she makes a link between the unliving and living worlds, providing fresh brains and cures to the virus. She is considered as a mad person but nobody ever dared to tell her, they are too afraid to lose their brain after that …

Story

In a dark gloomy street, a swift shadow enter a little shack. Judging by her clothes, she is a nurse. She is wearing a paper mask like those made by children at school and holds a lantern in her left hand. She puts her shillelagh up against the wall and take a rusted wrench out of her pocket. One is never too cautious in this kind of place. Something is lying on the floor.

“SOMEBODY ?” the figure on the floor asks. With such a rotten flesh, it is obvious it is an Unliving.

“I'm Gentiane” the nurse says. “You said you would tell me about your condition if I brought you a fresh brain, remember ?”

“BRAIN ?” the unliving asks

“Yes. I just got it from the mortuary. I brought an arm too if you want” the nurse answers.

As she is handing him his food, the Unliving jumps at her and sticks his last teeth into her neck. With a boring sigh she waves her rusted wrench and hits him in the stomach. Butterflies come out as he loses his grip and settle on her hair. As the Unliving isn't moving, Gentiane shrugs and goes out of the house. She wanted answers from an intelligent unliving, not a bite and butterflies in her hair. When they made contact, it seemed he was the kind of Unliving she was looking for, but the attack proved her wrong. Or maybe he wasn't at the last stage of the sickness when the met.

The healer was worried when Gentiane showed her shoulder.

“You were bitten by a zombie... Again.”

“You were the one who told me I wasn't infected the first time I got bitten.”

“And you still aren't. But you should be careful. Maybe you're not totally immune, just resistant.”

“I would love it to be like this. I want to be ill too. I want my flesh to rot and decay. I want my belly open under the pressure of the butterfly. I...”

“Many people would like to be immune like you. You should try to be happy with what you have” the healer said, interrupting her.

“Please heal my wound, I must go back to work.”

“I'll heal your wound and I'll let you heal the first stage unlivings.”

“Thank you.”

In fact Gentiane would heal unlivings in any stage. She wasn't afraid to wander in shadowglen and she was sure to come back free of infection. She was the perfect nurse in this epidemy. But she was bitter. The only person she cared for had become an unliving and was quite an activist for the Zombies rights. He hated that she "was forcing an unwanted cure on them" and for that he avoided her, breaking her heart in the process.

While proposing to cure the sicks in shadowglen, she would also propose food to the unlivings, often brains. At first she was just hoping to see the one she loves, but it gradually became a kind of hobby. She would try to find unlivings with some knowledge on the illness or imaginative ones who would think of methods to infect her. These methods only managed to infect her Nice Nurse Blob Kitty. As this poor unliving cat didn't look nice anymore, she renamed him Shrödinger. Neither dead nor alive. Exactly like how she felt inside.
