Urbain was a great sinner, though it took years for the Church to find him. They wrestled him down and wrestled out confession after confession. Whether he put his soul into those words was unknown to them, but their God knew. And their God knew they were false. Through He was not one for punishments, he chose to flex his powers. The morning after his capture, Urbain woke to discover he was hundreds of feet off the ground. And could not move. Unbeknown for quite awhile to Urbain was that he was trapped in the body of a Gargoyle who topped the railing of the church.
A gargoyle originally doomed to watch over the town for all eternity.
Now, however, it was only until this God chose to let free Urbain when he deemed well. Which could be several months or years or decades or millenniums.

Urbain's only company is by a raven, who he has taken to calling Someday and eagerly awaits her occasional visits. The Magnus has long believed her wiser then the rest, as Someday appears to know something is alive inside that stone statue.
