He is a strong willed character that ascended to heaven at the time of the Apocalypse. His soul purpose is to "defeat" evil forces. The Gods took special favor on him when things "went to Hell" and choose him as their lead Angel, because they knew that they would have to have someone as hard headed as themselves to see to missions down below. On his first mission things got rough but he triumphed and came back to the heavens a hero, jealous of his new found glory Dreamcatcher, another warrior of the Gods, started plotting against his would-be partner. As a test of faith (because Gods knows when someone isnt acting right)the Gods order Dreamcatcher and Alexus to a task below, this task leaves one of them behind forever, never able to ascend again into the Heavenly Kingdom. That one is Dreamcatcher. Upon arrival on the lands, he trys to play a trick on Alexus, to make Alexus look foolish in the eyes of his peers. It backfires on Dreamcatcher, mainly because Alexus is so hard headed and wont take the bait. (Exact details pending) Gods ends up having to come down themselves and banishes Dreamcatcher.
Dreamcatcher is striped of his wings, which were pearly white as Alexus, and they turn black, whither, and start to decay, His coat also turns jet black, taking away his radiant white light, Dreamcatcher is enraged. He attacks Alexus and a battle ensues, Gods knowing Alexus to have the upper hand allows the battle, and watches contently as the two fight for days (still both being immortal) Finally Dreamcatcher knows he cannot win, he has already lost his place above, battered and broke he flees vowing to one day have his revenge against Alexus the one who he "thinks" stole his rightful position. As time goes by Dreamcatcher together with his dark minions attempt to take over any of the lost souls left in the world of the living. Alexus has other battles he must fight but frequently has to take the time to set Dreamcatcher in his place. Eventually the battle will end and one will lose their Immortality and perish (I haven't decided who or how as of yet)
