The irony was, he was a worse liar than she was. And by that, she meant he was better- quicker with the words, better with his feelings. Sometimes she wondered if he had feelings at all, but then they'd have a screaming match again and she would decide that he must, because nobody quite yells like he does. She curls up on the old, moth-eaten sofa then and cries, wishing it was her father and not this stranger who would be there to collect her when she was tired. But he still tucks her into bed at half-past-eleven every evening, even when they'd been shouting, and that had to count for something, she supposed.
Their life together was just a tapestry of bad moments.
