Character: Iris Laurent

Nicknames: Ris, but only her father calls her that.

Age: 24

Height: 5'2”

Race: Greek and French.

Occupation: Iris is currently working at a small store that sells accessories like jewelry, purses, hats and things of that nature. She enjoys it because the store has a peaceful atmosphere and the customers are always pleasant. Her boss also has a separate room where she sells tarot cards, incense, and mystical things like that, and they also offer tarot card readings, which Iris gets once every few months. She believes in all that karma, magical stuff. She also paints on the side and sells them at the store.

Orientation: Heterosexual

Love Interest: None currently. She had a boyfriend before of 5 years, but he left her to pursue a life of solitude in Europe.

Residence: She was born in France, in an upper class family. They moved to America when she was 9 so she is fluent in French as well as English and sometimes has an accent when pronouncing certain words. She now lives in Point Lookout, New York, a small quiet town by the water. She rents a small house not too far from the water.

Likes: Iris loves to listen to classical music, though she is open to other genres. She usually spends her time walking along Point Lookout beach, enjoying the scenery, and going to Pennsylvania with her dad and hiking in the woods. On weekends she likes to set up a target, in her backyard, and shoot arrows. It’s a random skill of hers. Iris started an archery club at her high school and was the captain of the team. She finds it relaxing. She loves tea of all kinds, dancing, going to the city, and having delightful conversation. She is a huge fan of art, and spends her mornings painting or drawing.

Dislikes: Outwardly rude/cruel people, loud noises, fire, when it rains and people track mud into her home, and spicy foods.

Friends: Iris is friends with her co-workers, but other then that she is a shy girl and had never made very close friends in school. She was well liked but never really spoke out.

Enemies: She hates bullies and mean people in general. She never judges right away, you always have a chance to prove that you're a good person but if you mess up, it’s hard to get back onto her good side.

Family: Father: Francois Paul Laurent, a rather strict but loving man.

Mother: Ophelia Mary Asker, Deceased. She was an only child due to the fact that her mother passed before they could have any other children. The rest of her family is either in France or Greece. Her father lives in Greenwich, Connecticut with his girlfriend Amelia, spending his days repairing odds and ends for his neighbors and friends.

Looks:

Iris is pretty to say the least. With a little make up she could be a model, but she prefers to be natural when it comes to make up. At 5'2” and weighing 110 pounds, she is rather small. She has a delicate build and is sometimes mistaken for a high school aged girl. Her hair is long, slightly curly, and a dark shade of brown, often mistaken for black. But when in the sunlight, her hair lightens up and you can tell she is indeed a brunette. It contrasts her pale skin and makes her look even paler. She tends to keep it in a ponytail but will occasionally allow it to be free. Iris has a pale complexion due to her French heritage and burns easily. So she tends to carry a parasol with her when she adventures outside. Her eyes are a bright blue and are her favorite feature. If she ever wears make up, it’s only to bring more attention to her eyes.

Dainty is the word that describes Iris. She’s small and tiny. Most people are afraid to touch her, as they are afraid they might break her. But despite her small stature she actually is quite strong. Well, strong enough to pull back on a large compound bow. She always surprises people when they see her lifting something heavy or doing any labor in general.

Style: She wears simple, sophisticated outfits. The majority of her clothes are dresses. She wears light pastel colors, for she finds bright and dark colors to be too harsh. At work she will wear business casual, which consists of a lacy or ruffled shirt, skirt, and a pair of heels or boots. At home she usually wears one of her many dresses. Even in the winter she will be in a dress. Iris loves dresses, and that is that.

Possessions: The one thing Iris is never without is her only necklace. It is a silver chain with a round blue crystal pendant. A childhood friend gave it to her when he moved away. She wears it always and doesn't let others touch it. She has a couple of parasols that she takes out on sunny days to protect her skin from the harsh rays.

Voice: Just like the rest of her, Iris has a delicate voice to match. She speaks proper English and it's usually hard to hear her since she talks quietly. There is nothing particularly special about her voice besides the fact that she occasionally has a French accent.

Personality: She’s as polite and as sophisticated as they come. Iris is a wonderful person to bring home to the kind of parents who want you to have nice, polite friends. She has excellent manners and can keep a conversation going. She always is a proper lady when out in public and even when she’s in the comfort of her home. She was never one to go out and party due to her quiet personality, though she always attended her school dances. Iris loves dancing and just getting lost in the moment.

When it comes to her emotions, Iris won't ever let any negative show. It takes a lot to upset her and even then she is very forgiving. The one thing she can't forgive is when someone talks poorly of her mother. Whether they know that her mom is deceased or not, Iris doesn't tolerate any bad comments towards her and usually will end up slapping the person or spraying them with mace. But she's always so polite that people don't tend to bother her, since she gives them no reason too.

Iris is a bit of a daydreamer and is known to just zone out, and often looks like her mind just is in a whole other world. She dreams about love, the future, how things would have been if certain events hadn't occurred. She lets her mind wander all over the place.

She's very loyal and trusting, and will be by your side if you need her. She’s very sensitive to others feelings and will do anything to help them out, but people tend to refuse her help due to the fact that she looks like she'd be unable to do anything. She isn't persistent at all, so she'll leave you alone if asked. Due to her submissive behavior she tended to get pushed around.

Lovey, dovey, wuvey... Iris has read all of the Shakespeare romances and besides the death, she adores them and loves the idea doing anything for the one you love. Or loving someone so much that you go insane...You'll never see Iris out flirting or acting in any way that wouldn't be considered ladylike, unless of course she really likes someone. Then she will ease away from her reservations and try to show the person that she is interested in them. Despite her attempts, she’s so soft spoken that the message rarely across to the other person. But, gosh darnit, she will try her hardest. So far all the men she has met have been a bit too macho for her and tend to act like assholes. Iris is hoping to find someone she can connect with emotionally and won't laugh at her love of tarot cards and her archery.

History: Iris was born in Toulouse, France where she lived with her mother and father. Her mother passed when she was 3 years old. She committed suicide and to this day, no one knows the reason why. Though she was young when this occurred, Iris has always felt an empty hole in her heart and she wishes she could of known her mother. As for her father, he never remarried but after they moved he began to date again. Determined to make sure that Iris grew up into an elegant lady, she was enrolled in all girl schools until high school age. During her years in France, her father tried to spend as much time with his only child as he could but did have to work most of the day. He worked as an accountant for a couple of local businesses. So when Iris wasn't at school, she was at home with a nanny. She missed her father dearly when he wasn't home, and vice verse. He made it up to her by taking her on long summer vacations throughout France.

Even as a small child Iris loved fancy, elegant things and to go out on walks through the town. She fell in love with the idea of being elegant when her father took her to Paris. The art, buildings, and beautiful lights, just overwhelmed her and from then on she refused to wear anything but the finest of sophisticated clothes.

Iris and her father moved to America when she was nine. The loss of his wife had begun to take a toll on his sanity and he could no longer live in the same area that his wife had taken her life. It was in America that Iris began to develop an interest for archery. She was at a Renaissance Faire and the archers intrigued her. Soon afterwards her father got her a teacher and she began to learn archery. Connecticut wasn't much different from France. Her father still worked, though she was allowed to be home alone now, except on Tuesdays and Thursdays when her archery instructor came. The other days after school, she would walk through her neighborhood or listen to music on the porch. Her father also had a teacher come to tutor her in English. It was in Greenwich that she started drawing and painting. She just adored the flowers and trees that surrounded her home and felt the need to draw them. Her father encouraged her artistic interests and took her to art museums and galleries whenever he was off from work.

Unlike most teenagers, Iris never really went through any phases, like the rebellious stage. While her father didn't mind this, he found it a bit odd. She was always pleasant and never whined or asked for anything. The only time she ever acted even a bit annoyed, was when her father started dating again. She thought it was disrespectful to her mother for him to see other women. Iris didn't want her father to be unhappy but didn't want a new woman in their lives. She never really talked to any dates he brought home. She was civil. She would exchange pleasantries, but that was it. Every time a date was brought home, she'd lock herself in her room and just paint.

Iris still kept her interest in elegant things, and stood out among her class because of it. While the girls in America favored their bright colors, Iris preferred softer colors. She got good grades in school since she didn't really have friends to talk to, so she just studied. Because of that, if she reads instructions on how to do something, she will know how to do it. She picks up things rather quickly. Though her intelligence came at the expense of her social life.

Thanks to her above average intelligence and increasingly impressive painting skills, she got into the New York Art Institute, where she honed her painting skills to a point where people started to buy them. She never sold them for much, but the extra money helped her out. She refused to ask for money from her father, though it was available to her. When she graduated, she moved to live in Point Lookout, New York. She got a job as soon as possible and along with selling her paintings, makes enough to live in an house by the water. She hopes to one day open her own art gallery.
