Nostalgic LainShe glanced about the room full of guests, each with a glass of white wine from Peru aged since 1729 from her wine cellar.
The dazzling lights shattered into crystals when they met the chandelier that was perched in the center of her pearly, white atrium.
She lifted her crystal glass and sipped a drop from her own wineglass only to sit it back down onto her lacy, white skirt.
"Marvelous party, Edele. I loved your husband's toast earlier. What ravishing rhetoric he holds! I look forward to the next gala," said a guest to her.
She only fluttered her eyes and parted her lips once to say, "Thank you."
The guest then slipped her arms around Edele as a hug and Edele returned the favor but then got up and turned into her bedroom, away from the crowd.
She sat before her white dresser that was crested with gold.
She pulled from a drawer in the dresser a comb and brushed her curly hair.
"I ought to go to bed," she whispered to herself.
She replaced the comb and produced a knife from the same drawer and slit her throat.
Red dripped onto her dress and ran down her fingers.
Her eyes rolled upwards as she looked to the ceiling.
Another chandelier reflected into her eyes her blood and the smile that fell over her face.
