Keeto

(KEY-toe)

The keeto is a playful, mischievous creature native to Subeta's Shadowglen and the surrounding forest. As people (both living and unliving) began to occupy the area, the naturally curious keeto began to check out their new neighbors. It wasn't long before keetos were being kept as pets by the settlers in the area, and soon the trade spread all over Subeta.

There are some mysteries about the keeto that have yet to be solved, despite their popularity as pets. Although they are fully corporeal, they are surrounded by a strange, otherworldly aura, and they do have almost a spirit-like presence about them. The aura is cool to the touch, like a faint breeze, and the color of it can vary depending not only on the color of the keeto but also by its personality - so says keeto fanatics at least! Although keetos are fully grounded, they tread very lightly, hardly putting any pressure on the ground at all and rarely leaving footsteps in their wake, even in mud and snow. In the forests surrounding Shadowglen, keetos live in huge groups, called a haunting, and they communally raise their young, called kitlings. Keetos are opportunists, and although they will dig for insects and eat small mammals, they will also gladly take handouts from Subetans - or even dig through the garbage looking for a snack! Keetos stand at about 1-1.5 feet tall (35-55 cm), but they are extremely light, rarely weighing more than 10 pounds (4.5 kg).

Keetos make delightful pets, but owners should know that they are taking in quite a handful. The keeto has quite the reputation for being a trickster! They will quickly learn how to play practical jokes on their owners, whether it's stealing and hiding items or attacking their owner's feet as they walk by. Still, keetos are very loving to their owners, and as long as they are patient, an owner can expect a loyal friend for life.
