Reading Drive!

School is back in session and the time for books is NOW. After a long wait, Archie has agreed to put on the reading drive once more.
He's running things a bit differently this year, however! Archie claims that he has not held a reading drive in so long due to the overabundance of common books he received last time. As such, this year he's looking to only accept books you cannot restock.
But worry not, dear users, for Alexander is joining in on the drive this year, and is willing to give out points to those who complete his quests!
Archie will open up his shop in one week, so you better earn all the points you can before then!

I tried something different and now when I go back to Alexander, he doesn't have his problem anymore.
Ugh, not at all pleased with the GA advantage, and I'm someone with a couple medals and CSC stashed away who could go gold if she wanted to.

Pistachio - I'm unsure of what you're asking. The books you turn in count as well as the library quests that you do.

"This is really no different than the old RD way, you're just getting your points differently. Collectors will be turning in their r101+ books and doing the library quests. Those who didn't have a collection, or didn't have many r101+ books will be turning in what they have... and then do the library quests for their points. You're just using the restockable books in a different manner. It all works out the same."
But users who have hoarded a lot of books (or, basically, who have been here longer, because chances are, the longer you're here, the more things you've hoarded), will have more to turn in than people who have only joined within the last year. So someone could turn in hundreds of non-restockables because they had them, AND do their quests... and completely trump anyone who joined recently. ;x

Is there a reason they weren't made a really low point value and then still have the quests? That way we'd still have the quests to do but at least the hoarded books weren't completely useless since it's not really guaranteed he's going to ask for what we have in our vaults.
I'm watching this and... not very thrilled about the new system. What's bugging me the most is that the achievement is still for BOOKS turned in. Ok, it's 600 now, but if there are 777 total like someone said... yeah not happening.
I'm going to repeat myself because it's important to those who are thinking that this is unfair....

So- do some research before getting mad.... a little bit of due diligence helps a lot.A search has been done on SL for non restockable books that are of a decent price and MANY came up - thanks starshadow for looking into that.... so technically we don't have room to complain if this is the case. I take back my whiny complaint because I was unaware as to how MANY books that do exist on this site that are not restockable and are of a decent price....
Um, guy, GUYS.
I don't think there will be ANY rare books on site before the night is over -__-"

Wow, so none of my 580 books will work for this drive....maybe 10 of them will work. ;--; i am sad.

Um why are some of the books I turned in not counting towards the achievement? Do I need to file a ticket or give it some time?

Yes Natasha. If you do all your quests!
I just lowered the total for the crazy achievements because I am not that crazy.

eek I wish I had more steamworks tokens and other seasonal currencies saved up because there are a lot of books there ;n;
this is going to be an expensive reading drive, but it's better than nothing I guess.

I don't think identical events are boring. What is boring is when things continue to ride the fail train here. Features we like are screwed with until they're something totally different. How long before the downtime screens start popping up for this one guys? Can we have a betting pool with the closest guessers getting bonus points?
I know nobody cares what the long time users think, that's overwhelmingly clear. But props for a clever way to get people desperate to get the good weapons in the RD shop (providing you don't take them out and replace them with crappy knock offs) to buy cash shop books to hope they make enough points. Bravo.

Also a quick note that the 750 turned in book prize is ridic. there are around 777 r100 books on the site. now factor in the sheer cost of some of those books. even if you flooded the cs with extra "turn in able" books and the ts shop. you still have very little wiggle room. it also looks like a weapon which is going to piss off about idk the entire battle community.
We all knew that the system would change, but I don't see how making that only non-rs books allowed is good? For the site, of course. Because cash shop stuff is allowed, right? That include stand alone books and books from collections, so how many $ someone is supposed to spend? What else is non-rs? Free gift stuff, event prizes and what else? Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see how this is good. I'm sorry, but only some players can participate fully in the donation this way. I've been waiting for a change, but looks like all the recent changes are made without having us players in mind.

i liked the old version way more .___. and i never did the library quest
i guess the library quest will become even more expensive now and since the wizard also stopped to give money it will cost way to much for me to participate Q.Q

@Rattata We don't make news posts on things that haven't happened, or aren't guaranteed to happen. Me posting two years ago "We aren't doing the RD like we usually have. See you in two years!" would have had just as much effect as me posting on the forums and talking about it in live chats.
A majority of other games don't even have news pages and get their news out via forum posts from people on their CS team. I'm sorry if it means you have to go to a feedback thread about the reading drive (or a suggestion post, or whatever) and see my response, but that is how information gets out when it isn't news.

Basically, I thought the goal was to make sure people ENJOY the site, not give them a checklist of reasons why the staff is right and we're wrong if we're not having fun.

Thanks for confirming our old points are safe, Ariel! Will we be able to spend old points in the old shop later on? :(
If I remember I can still buy 3-4 soma tablets which I direly need at some point xD

I have to... read between the lines to figure out how get 10 more points a day?
I'm so confused. And this pop quiz thing is making me more confused. lol

ok I need to amend my comment earlier. Welp. Another event in which I won't bother participating. Brilliant going, guys. Brilliant.

Okay, people hoarding books was exactly. the. problem. People would hoard a shitload of books, turn them in all at once and then not participate for the rest of the event. While I do agree that only non-restockable books kind of sucks, it should still be at least just one copy of each book. Having it be only books above X-rarity or something would probably be better, but I don't really get all the complaints when it's been common knowledge for a long, long time that the RD would not work the same way as it has in the past, ever again. Sheesh. Staff is doing the best they can, if you don't like it, leave.
I don't understand how constant complaints are met with so much opposition from the staff. I don't care what the rationale is, the fact that a majority of people are complaining about having less fun should MEAN something.
I squeed when I read that there is a Reading Drive and then almost cried. Yay for the quests, but the non-restockable books really sucks. I really looked foreward to this event but now, well, it sucks in my opinion. Why not only take Normal and higher Rarity Books? Why decline ALL restockable ones? I just don't understand this.

it did need a change, but this seems to make it so only the super wealthy can donate any books to the drive. everyone else has to either give up their now priceless books, or do quests only. shrug it's a no-win situation though.
@Bailey
Keith said a billion times it would be different. Most of people here are sound childish.

Alexander currently isn't telling you (that is being added now) but your points are being tracked when you do his quests :)

I don't know why I'm going to bother because Keith only likes to listen to himself, but:
You posting in some place that not everyone goes makes zero sense. You have been told multiple times that you should post important news IN THE SITE NEWS.
Is this hard to understand or something? People want important site news IN THE SITE NEWS WHERE EVERYONE IS GUARANTEED TO READ IT.

@Destiel that's the thing, we keep asking for old events to return, but when they do they're...different somehow. Hideous, misshapen.

taking a type of currency out of circulation pretty much is going to piss some people off of course
