Reading Drive!

School is back in session and the time for books is NOW. After a long wait, Archie has agreed to put on the reading drive once more.
He's running things a bit differently this year, however! Archie claims that he has not held a reading drive in so long due to the overabundance of common books he received last time. As such, this year he's looking to only accept books you cannot restock.
But worry not, dear users, for Alexander is joining in on the drive this year, and is willing to give out points to those who complete his quests!
Archie will open up his shop in one week, so you better earn all the points you can before then!

Well, I guess I'm glad that almost all of the books I have hoarded aren't restockable...still a really weird change though..guess I'll go see what's up with Alexander once I finish turning in the books from my vault.
Well, damn. I was saving up the non-restocking/events books to, oh, read to my pets. How in the world am I suppose to do that and turn them in. I turned in a couple I had over five of but still, I don't have that many books I can sacrifice. More so when I have no idea if it's going to be worth it! :( I really didn't even have many items in the epicon shop I liked and I busted my butt playing those games over and over...
I did a quest for Alexander and there was/is no indication that I got points for it. And the part about Archie only accepting books that can't restock, that's crazy. I won't be turning in any books to him.

STAFF
THE BREAKDOWN.
We know that you've been hoarding books since the last reading drive. If you've seen me post anywhere / in any live chat (which are posted online after) or really anywhere the RD is mentioned I've said we aren't doing it again unless its changed. It prompted people to collect books through the year (but not really with any effort, just the ones they'd have gotten anyway) and shove them into their vault. Day 1 of the RD they'd turn them all in, and thats it, done. It needed to be changed.
- The reading drive itself this year is ONLY taking r100+ books. These books don't restock.
- The library quests are giving out points for the RD for completing the quests. We expect that books will inflate in the short term, but over the past week we've increased (MASSIVELY) the number of books that come from the book shop. We are also going to increase books coming from other quests, as well as from the vending machines.
- Doing the daily quest (which you can find when Alexander asks for help) will lead you around the site and result in additional points.

Oh and not to mention milking money from folks to buy CS books to turn in. Not cool.
Subeta, listen to your users. Change things we've wanted changed for years, leave things we like alone :(

Everyone was asking for a reading drive and now you can stop complaning? Please. - Destiel
I never asked for it to become entirely unachievable for me to finish my book collection on the hs list.

People will stop complaining when staff acknowledge that they changed the reading drive to be less conducive to actually DOING the reading drive. Unless RD shop items are ridiculously cheap and ridiculously excellent, this event is an exercise in losing money. I think there are other, better ways that this could have been changed to as to not piss off a ton of people.

Can we have Alex give out more books then for prizes, not every quest though? To help us turn in more for the achievements and what not?

Also, I'm not seeing where Alexander is giving us points so I'm confused on that too? Also my achievement for turning in books is stuck on one, even though I turned in several already? I'm guessing/hoping that's just a glitch that will be fixed though?

All the books from other events are considered non-restockables right? Zombie Den, Steamworks Menagerie, Esther's Shop, EPICon, Crystal Shop, and plot prize shops. Am I missing any or including any incorrectly?
Yay for a reading drive but boo hiss for the no common books. Yay for the quests though. But this seems like a way to get money from people to buy GAs. Not cool. Unless points are capped at non-GA limits. If so then that complaint is revoked.
But seriously why are you screwing up one of the most loved original events :(

Oh well, I'm fine with it - we can use "normal" books in quests and looking for the non-restockable ones seems to be more fun. Although I'm not sure about the points, I mean, from what I remember Malice for example used to cost 400 points - is it even possible to gather so many non-restockable books if 1 book = 1 point? Or are we going to have new prizes, old prizes with lower prices or what? I'm curious.
Question! I still have quite a few points left from the last Reading Drive. Will any points I earn during this drive be added to my old points, or will the new points be their own separate score?
The fact that Reading Drive has been changed has only been made clear to me now, but the fact that Pandemic changed (no zombies), EPICon changed (only games, no plot or restock war), and now this, and people are pissed off, I think that should say something in and of itself.
Understandable the desire for change to try something new, but I have to go along with everyone else. This does just seem like a disaster and I think a little more consideration of what people are capable of or even willing to do without deterring the hard work of many. Like ren said, I wouldn't want to give up my restockables that I use for my hoard, that's like book suicide. I don't think there is much anyone can do unless they have spares upon spares of event points or copies of books.

yes, I do agree that it is unfortunate that all my hoarded books are worthless, this is only good for people who want to read them to their pets. But the downside is the un-rsable books will become unobtainable. This is only good for me because I am not going to participate in madness and am now going to sell all my now priceless books. :) Which makes me happy because it makes me a more wealthy user post-rd.
crazy talk indeed.I'm not giving up my expensive non restockable books? I don't think that was sort of fair to not take the common books. People have been hoarding all these books for this time, and now they're useless? shakes head Maybe I don't get it, maybe there's more to this than just not taking common books anymore... but as I see it now, it's a bit ludicrous.

What is a non-restockable book? Are we expected to turn in CS books,TS books and books we can only get from site events and holidays?
If we are unwilling to do that, we can try to earn up to 30 points a day (if you manage to complete all 30) from the quests?
I am so confused right now :(

No offense, but if the idea was to NOT ruin the economy like last time...this isn't going to help. This will just inflate all the books that don't restock. :/ I don't see what the reasoning behind this is. I get that people liked the Reading Drive, but it was the same as the Restock War....should just have been cut instead of trying to change it to make it better. This is going to mess with the already messed economy. :c

So we're one allowed to turn in one of each book? If that is a rule, why not make it so ANY book can be turned in, but also only once?

Where is this quiz? I don't see anything. Also is anybody else's achievement total adding up for You Drive Me Crazy? Mine's stuck at 1.

No, the fact that the Reading Drive would change was made abundantly clear over and over again. I guess the non-restockables rule is to discourage the people who've been hoarding since last RD? I still think the GAs and quests thing is Bush League though. :P

Eh, guess I could've said it better, but staff just don't seem to get that users are consistently disappointed in events because the parts that we like most are being removed.
It makes zero sense and all people get when they complain (even if they're nice about it) are snarky replies.
Everyone I've talked to has been looking forward to the Reading Drive for a VERY long time and now that's it's here they're disappointed because it's been changed in a way that really, really sucks.
What's wrong with donating common books? That removes them from the economy and raises prices. It would be a GOOD thing.
But no, let's get rid of the more expensive books! Makes PERFECT sense.

No offense to the staff, but I don't understand why this change was made when so many of us were hoarding books that are now completely useless in the book drive?

Sooo on Alexander's quest page it sounds like we get RD points for completing his quests; I now completed two but got no points? Did I miss sth.?
literally the bulk of your points will consist on your spare trinkets from esther and the masquerade shops basically.

Yeah I got the popup about the quiz, but when I go back to the page there's nowhere to actually click on answers or anything... what gives? @User not found: _@
Keith and other staff members have been saying for years that the traditional RD system was never going to come back guys!
What a disappointing Reading Drive...only books that don't restock? So now we're going to have to spend a fortune on books for what? 1 point each? Doesn't add up, Subeta. :/
sooooo okie -does math- hand in event books from lumi/morostide etc -watches them inflate hideously- go turn in the prize books from epicon (ty btw i wasnt done collecting those for tharja and i actually read a lot of books to my pets as i know people on the hs list do too and im in no way high up that board). there are a couple of vendables which will quickly inflate to make up for being the only ones people can get or tokens will, then that leaves token shop again token inflation. -casually watches shop search inflate hideously- so the only way to win this event is to hope you hoarded spare copies and do your library quests each day.
Basically, subeta keeps changing the parts of events that actually make them competitive and enjoyable.
While rattata has phrased it...colorfully, I do see their point. I've been consistently disappointed by events this year, and confused by some of the choices made.

Meh, I'm sick of this. "Let's change the thing people like about events!" "Hey that's a great idea, but you know what'd make it better?" "What?" "Not telling people until the event's released!" "Oh damn that's brilliant."
No.
No.

Well, this is disappointing. I've spent so long saving up books for the next drive, only to find out that everything except the ones I received via events are useless. Oh well. I suppose it's still nice to at least have a new event going. I'll just hold on to those useless books with hopes of the next RD being a little more open.
can you please explain how this quiz works
I got the page on the first clothing article I bought. apparently clothing was underlined 3 times so I assume that means buy 3 articles of clothing?? idk I did that too but there's nothing to click on and no clues

Personally, having identical events every year gets boring. New ideas may be hit and miss, but the same thing over and over is so boring!
Read between the lines and you guys might find how to get 10 more points a day....
