Reading Drive!
School is back in session and the time for books is NOW. After a long wait, Archie has agreed to put on the reading drive once more.
He's running things a bit differently this year, however! Archie claims that he has not held a reading drive in so long due to the overabundance of common books he received last time. As such, this year he's looking to only accept books you cannot restock.
But worry not, dear users, for Alexander is joining in on the drive this year, and is willing to give out points to those who complete his quests!
Archie will open up his shop in one week, so you better earn all the points you can before then!

You have no idea how disappointed I am that this event is now running after being assured that the book drive would not return. I had multitudes of books stashed in case it returned and 6 months ago due to the fact we were told it wouldn't return I got rid of them all.

I think that there did need to be multiple ways to earn points for the RD, but this just seems a bit messy and expensive. I'm trying to hold off my judgement and see how things go though. Maybe you should allow people to earn points from reading books to their pets during the event. When I was in grade school we used to do a rewards thing for summer reading. Hmm, so I went through what books I have and managed to turn in 103, yay for having masq/esther/candy hearts hoarded. At this point for turning in books I'm stuck. And omg I almost turned in the newest collection book a few times by accident. Why you showing up in the turn in area when locked, silly book. I need that one for a tc. lol
I just hope with the Library Quests being tweaked to be a bit easier mean that I can actually do more than I was today. How are those points being counted? Is the side quest added to it? Because I know there's no way I was able to complete 23 quests. Around ten would be more likely. At least I've made a nice profit on selling off my hoard so far.

Can we maybe have the token shop restocked with all the book inventory so we can buy those up to turn in as well? That'd be nice... and helpful since most of those old books are unobtainable otherwise. If there's going to be this leveled playing field on missing weapon prizes in events that don't include battling for fairness--- bring old books back for fairness? Then maybe I wouldn't be so bitter about my efforts in epicon and the old shop not being available with the new points.
How about if we can battle Archie and Alexander for points. I'm not going to read 315 posts, so if this has been mentioned... I'm sorry. They should be beginner and medium challengers for new members and maybe someone new for more advance pets. Just saying.

It kinda sucks that a lot of rare books are going to disappear. And hopefully the prizes aren't too expensive, because I only had 16 non-restockable books and don't have the money to spend 100k+ per book just to get a point or two...

Just because it isn't exactly what you'd want doesn't mean that we aren't listening! I thought the specific complaint with the RD was how it was boring/hard, and with Epicon that there was only one way to earn points. We made sure to find multiple ways to earn points this way, in a fashion that keeps you playing daily instead if dumping your load the first day and that's that. There isn't a great way to make reading drives NOT inflate books, that's going to happen unless we turne it into a book restock war or just the quests or something.
As always, we'd love to hear feedback an other ideas--there just isn't a lot of that from blanket "THIS SUCKS!!!1" posts. Obviously if you aren't happy, you shouldn't have to lie or keep quiet. I just think your voices will go a lot further if you were creating suggestions threads instead! We've been able to fix and tweak plenty of plots during them before, so that's always a possibility.

The "unfair advantage" obtained by people hoarding books since the last Reading Drive is the fact that they had all this time to stock up on books, which they would then just dump off on the very first day of this RD and be done with it. Newer users probably didn't think to stock up on books, because they weren't around for the last RD and thus weren't aware that this was something they could be doing. So no, it's not really something that "anyone and everyone" could do if they wanted to; it's a matter of whether or not you even knew about it. You can't get a head-start on most other point-based events, so you shouldn't be able to get a head-start on this one (saving event currencies that you already earned in order to spend them another year is different from stocking up on items to EARN points for another year). This is a week-long event; some people have had YEARS to get ahold of as many books as they could, whereas newer users who are just learning about it only have this one week. That is a huge difference. Sure, the people who hoarded books still have an advantage when doing Alexander's quests, but now they have to actually participate all week long in order to get those points. The playing field has been evened out a little more, albeit not perfectly (but it CAN'T be evened out 100% perfectly; this is about as good as it can get).

I liked epicon too for the majority. It went on too long and some of the games were horrible. But I did enjoy it.
Well, this makes sense. Let's keep the prices of common books really, really low, and the prices of unbuyables really, really high.

I'm sorry if this has already been answered, but will the points for completing the quests be worth the same as the points for turning in books? If so, I'll be happy; I might not be able to afford the more expensive stuff in the shop but at least I'll hopefully be able to grab a few things for my gallery. ^-^;
so what's the verdict re: old prizes? if those aren't coming back, then this event is already shit. if they are, then i'll refrain from casting judgement quite yet.
I have to say, this event is pretty interesting, but... I really want to keep all my non-restockable books (I've been holding a lot of them for more than just turning them into a RD).
I'm not really upset. Just gonna go with the flow. Yeah, I hoarded quite a few books, but all the books I can't redeem can be used for quests, so that's cool. Plus, I managed to redeem 80 books I got from the other prize shops. I feel like I could probably get at least 200pts by the end of the event, which doesn't seem bad. Event books are going to be worth a lot more now, but the evil inside me is totally cool with that :D Although, in hindsight, really wishing I hadn't read all those prize books to my pet xD I mean, who eats/burns their book after reading it? Ugh, stupid pet. Just kidding. :P

ALSO I highly suggest restocking in the book nook. Alexander is going to be asking for those books all week. The shop itself is restocking at an incredibly increased pace. :)
The only question I have is how are the books going to be restored if they're returned to the system? :(

And I just want to say that our motive in pricing the prizes for the RD shop are like our other recent event shops. Things priced in a way that you can get what you want as long as you've participated a little :).
Of all the books I had hoarded I was able to turn in 121. I'm quite happy. I'll sell the others....now off to do some quests!
I'm fine with the change of pace, but if the points Alex gives have the same value as the points awarded for a turned-in book, I can't imagine many people are going to spend 100k and upwards to get the same result they could get with 30 or 50k from Alex.
I've never stockpiled anything on the site before, but (to ask honestly) how is people having hoarded books in the past considered an "unfair advantage"? Couldn't anyone and everyone have done that if they chose to? If they did the work, I can't imagine what the problem was with letting them reap the benefits. What exactly made it unfair, if it's something that anyone could have done if they wanted to?

I wouldn't be surprised if the library quest was the weekend quest. Honestly what they did to the reading drive is pretty ridiculous. It's REALLY ridiculous how the staff is treating the negative comments. Most of us haven't liked the things that your doing with the events and you still change them?
Well then, I guess I'm glad I bought and read all the fairy tales/language books from library quests to my pet yesterday. >>

The questing for points is a really neat idea-- I don't really want to spent the time doing so every day, but seeing as it's just a week and I know I will HATE myself if I don't, that's not too bad!
I will say though, I'm kinda sad about the only turning in retired books part. I mean I DO understand/get the whole "quest = 1-99 books/turning in = non-restocking" however, as a person in the top most read books list it kinda really pains me to know that either those elusive rare books are about to become even rarer, or they're about to be spammed into the system and all of the hundreds of millions I've spent on just one book (literal-- just dropped 70m on the cosplay prize book, and 45m on one of the referral books, and this is FAR from the first time I've done so) is about to be extremely devalued and all that work/money it took to track down all those books is about to be in vain /:
So I'd honestly rather see the reading drive only ask for 1-99 books as well-- or at least, please keep into consideration that no one who collects anything wants to see their work turned worthless. I don't think a single plushie/beanbag/tique/sticker collector would be very please to see like a ~beanbag drive~ take place and everything they ever spent tons of money on become worthless because "we wanted to make sure everyone could turn in 549308590345 beanbags and to hell with people who collect them" :c! Though I wouldn't mind seeing some of those old school token shop/trivia books pop up in the crystal shop. Or pirate/collection books x:!

Ok, I was kind of neutral about the new RD style earlier, but the staff has been getting so much negative feedback that I have to say that I actually like it! It's convenient that Alexander gives out books that he'll probably ask for later, and since you get points for each quest it's basically like turning in R1-99 books anyways. And I liked the little side quest, I hope there's more for each page :)
If the RD shop is anything like the shops we've been getting recently, it won't matter much if you don't have many non-restockable books because you'll probably be able to get what you really want from doing Alexander's quests anyways. It sucks that people hoarded so many books but at least books are always expensive so you can sell them!

Exciting stuff always happens when I'm asleep, lol. I did wonder how it would be run, after Keith said ages ago that he'd like it done differently. Different in this case being much more of a challenge - that's not a bad thing :) I'm hugely relieved my leftover points from the last drive are still safe.
Now, if only Alexander will co-operate and NOT ask for wildly expensive books ......

Wow! What a change! I too have been hoarding books of all rarities in hopes of a reading drive. Am I disappointed that I can't use them for this event? Heck no...eventually I'll just sell them and reap the sP. No harm no foul there.
Am I upset that we didn't find out until the event was announced that this would be the case? Heck no...I think the element of surprise is important when announcing a big event. I'd get SOOO bored if every event was the same every time they held it!
