Personal Information and Security
Due to this ruling on Youtube! we are adopting a new standard of deleting logs after a month. Hopefully other sites also adopt this method.
What this means is, that we will be deleting our log files monthly, that keep track of your pages visited, and your IP addresses. While this information helps us track down multiple accounts and cheaters, at some point in the future that information could be requested by some bully corporation, and if this ruling is any indication, we'd be required to give up your personal information and your browsing habits to that corporation.
To keep it simple, it means that we're protecting your privacy, and making it harder for large corporations to request information about where you've been looking on the internet.
If you share a computer with someone else, you're fine! Don't worry about it :)

Lets see, this information is in those logs:
IP address (your location), referrer (where you came frrom to get to Subeta), your browser, your operating system, your request (exactly what you asked from the subeta servers, including comment text, forum text, etc)

dablumeanie, it's not just your page views, but your ip address, name, how you got to a particular link, etc. basically a good part, if not your whole internet identity. it's as important to protect it as with your real one. you give those big monster company an inch and it ends with seizing your computer. if keith hadn't take this decision, it would have meant that he sort of agrees with the ruling enforced on youtube. this is a way to say, you won't get me suckers! he just wanted to make sure we knew he cared about the privacy of his users...

Oh man, basically what Viacom is doing is taking records of what you do on Subeta: when you come online, your IP addresses... and if Viacom gets hacked then the hackers will get ahold of your personal information.
Simply put, after Viacom, you're screwed.

What if you work out of multiple computers depending on where you are at the time (college dorm, home, grandma's house, other grandma's house)? That's reversed from having two accounts from one computer, so will that be a problem?
so wait a minute. is a member of youtube so basicly,because of some 'copyright' stuff because people have taken videos from Viacom,they have been granted permission to see EVERYTHING about us? What we've watched,where we live,everything..because of other's taking their videos? How is that right in any way.
They can even like..put ads up and everything. Well,I think I'll just close my YT account now and warn all my friends there..

Thank you so very much Keith. It may seem like it does not matter much now, but I know you are looking out for your users for the future, when Viacom may suddenly want to make it matter. I have had to watch them take over THREE franchises that I loved and ruin each one of them. Subeta may e small, but do not underestimate Viacom's greed. We love you Keith, for looking out for us when we can do nothing about it ourselves.

As to the youtube fiasco, I think that's a harsh ruling but I'm amazed we didn't see it coming. There's whole t.v. shows and movies on there in segments. It was only a matter of time. I'm interested to see where this ruling goes. :/

This makes me want to stay as far away from Youtube as possible. My biggest question is: how is this going to affect the Keith Answers videos? Will they still be posted there, or will Keith find another site? I like the Keith Answers videos and don't want to lose access to them.

@ Nyaochan. EVERY site needs this. If every site did this, big, small, pet, music, news site, whatever - Then these bully legal tactics of collecting tons and tons of information on people that havent done anything wrong will stop.

All i am worry is about, is that i go on subeta as much as i can. it doesnt matter where i am, i go on everywhere... if it is at my friends house or even on my mom's computer... i just dont want to get frozen.

I don't really see how this would affect Subeta, seeing as we aren't a file sharing site or anything. From what I gather, they're just cracking down on people uploading, and, god forbid, watching copyrighted video over the internet.

Viacom's lawyers pointed this out in court, stating that the under DMCA nothing that can be done, but the main problem is for every file that is taken down 2 more take its place. The cycle would just repeat itself and become never ending, yet all is irrelevant because suing Google is just Supterfuge to get information of the users who are uploading the files.
The DMCA only protects the companies hosting the files not those that upload them. You see?
Companies like Viacom, will take any means to stop anyone who ruins their profits, no matter how backhanded and dirty the method. Prime example would be when the RIAA sued a girl for downloading music, but here is the catch. She had been dead for 2 years after they finally decided to take legal action. Did they stop there, of course not! They went after her family and of course lost that case, Yet it just goes to show the companies true colors.
We really need to stand up and stop these companies from taking over our civil liberties.
Thank Staff, for at least protecting them to an extent. However I do have one question.
If the site were to ever roll back more than a month, due to unforeseen circumstances. We would lose some items due to the logs being deleted every month? If this is true I guess hen it is a price to pay to protect my information from tyrannical companies.
