Attention Internet Explorer Users! There is a serious flaw in all modern versions of Internet Explorer, which opens up the chance of your personal information being stolen.

This is not an error with Subeta, or any website. This is a problem with the programming itself that allows malicious code to take advantage of your computer, and install malicious software, that could steal the information that you use for your banking, paypal, or other highly personal information.

You can find information about this here, here and here is a link to google news, with Internet Explorer as the keyword so you can get up to date news on the bug itself.

Also, I want to tell you that having a firewall does not prevent this from affecting you. Most virus scanners (unless this is used to maliciously place a known keylogger on your system) will not be able to help you in this situation. The best way to fix this problem is to get rid of the software that is causing it.

Now, I'm not asking you to switch to another browser. I highly advise that you move to another browser, not only because this is a very critical problem, but because the other browsers are just better. They use less memory, they are less bloated, and most importantly, if there is a critical flaw, the other major browsers are very quick to issue a patch and correct the problem. We are not being paid by either the Mozilla Foundation, or the Safari Team (or Opera, or flock to ask you to switch browsers. I simply care about you, our users, and don't want to see your private information stolen, or used against you.

The browser I suggest looking into are Firefox or Safari.

Doing a little research on all the major browsers is probably in your best interest.

You're a good man, Keith Kurson!
MALICIOUS.... also I've been using firefox for like...ever. Ever since I found out what it was xD; IE was always slow and icky for me, anyway.
Thank you Keith...major (((hugs))) it is just sad that BBC had to break the news before the US news stations would. Sadder yet, but thanks, that I had to hear the news here...on Subeta...before it was on my news homepage. NOW it is plastered all over the news and they, microsoft, MIGHT have a patch for it tomorrow. Once again you have proven how much you care about us <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
I would get one of them... but my computer would probably crash. It can't fit much more on it... I have tried the other browsers but again, they just commit complete murder on my computer. It's sad really. Thanks anyway... Maybe I'll try another one sometime... Maybe when it won't destroy mee =]
What the heck is doging?
when I use FF it completely slows down my comp...I use it sometimes to update my profile since FF is better with that...but I cant use it for all sites...I have the newest version and always DL the updates but some sites if they have a lot lot of flash/java (not sure which) it wont show the items...just the html parts...But I used to have Opera at my moms and I loved it so I might try to DL that again and give it a go

I'm not deleting IE for something I don't see as a threat to me.
I used to whine all the time about how Firefox was irritating or didn't work; but since there was the wardrobe glitch with IE, I switched. It sounds cheesy- but it was probably one of the best decisions ever. Subeta works SO much better. Same with basically other website.

It's less bulky, and definitely safter than IE or any other browser I've used. It takes a bit of getting used to, but grin & bear it for a little while, and you won't regret it.

From the post you're commenting on:

@Denzel

I found out why it's not messing up. I have AVG 8.0.

To those who can't switch browsers - I hightly advise you get it. It's free.
Zel
@MorriganDraven:

That doesn't mean it won't. I seriously suggest, for your computer's safety, that you switch to a different browser.
Thank you! I was warned irl as well, and switched to Firefox. Which I know love <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
IE has yet to mess up my computer...

To people wondering if you should uninstall it-

I don't use IE at all, and neither does my family. But we kept getting these random popups from it despite not even opening IE. So I would suggest deleting it to be safe. =)
Linux + Iceweasel ftw.

While you're changing your browser, why not change your o/s to something a bit more secure as well <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_wink.gif" border="0" />

Open source fangirl. Why anyone would use MS anything is beyond me. This isn't the first security flaw, nor will it be the last. This is just the most recent, and covering a larger area at one time.

If you absolutely MUST use windows/IE, look into using it in a virtual environment, box it up. makes it a bit better. a 'bit'

Thank you for this! I was wondering what these stupid popups were from. x.x -deleted IE- I don't use it, but argh. x.x
I'm a little miffed that this is causing such a stir today, but has been known for over a week and a patch is expected tomorrow. shrug Seems like a lot of worry over something that'll be fixed pretty soon.

But, uh. It is very rude and ignorant to say that someone's preferences for a browser are "stupid". I've never been fond of IE but I know people I respect greatly who use the program, and I know their decisions are not based on ignorance or a lack of IQ. It is often better to keep inconsiderate comments to yourself or at least phrase them in less obviously insulting ways.
I'm primarily a Firefox user, but still used IE for a few things that wouldn't work for me in FF. A few days ago, I acquired Google's Chrome and have been using that in lieu of IE for those things. Sounds like it's a good thing I did! <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_happy.gif" border="0" />
Thank you so much.
I wondered why my desktop at home was acting funny. :3
Thanks Keith. The heads up is appreciated!
Personally, I like to use FF, but I still have accounts that I handle on IE just because it was.... there already. I'll be making my switch.... and convince my husband now <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
I use FF, but I'm wondering if we should unistall IE to be as safe as possible? or just not using it will be good enough?
Thank God I have Firefox phew

Thanks I guess I swithced to ff too
Thank you for the update Keith! Hearing and seeing this, I just switched over to FF, even though IE is still on my desktop n-n
thank you keith! a really good excuse to get my step-dad to change to firefox ! dramaticvictorypose XD
Proof that Internet Explorer sucks!

Freaking. YES.
Ahh-- cool when I do go back I use an old version. However still forget it.. I will fully move over to FF
User not found:
Wow good wording, I use firefox anyway...keep up the good work
I moved over to firefox for sometime now.. however I have old bookmarks on IE that I go back and use from time to time.. not anymore!! Thank you for this information. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />
Even without the threat, why would any intelligent person use IE? Seriously...it does not compare to FF and probably the others Keith mentioned. IE uses caching so when playing a game online you may get an outdated page and not an accurate real time view of your game. Example: items that you thought you had appear to not be there.
Goooooo Firefox! <br /> Thanks for the warning, Keith. Even though I dont use IE, i probably would have had no idea about this problem had I not looked here. Oddly enough it hasn't exactly been widely covered by the television news. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_sigh.gif" border="0" /> I do appreciate this warning. ^^
Woah thats really scary! <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_sad.gif" border="0" />

ive always used firefox anyways, much
faster and doesnt crash ! <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />

everyone please be safe! <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
Haha, no more browsing subeta at school for me D; They only have IE installed there <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif" border="0" />

Thanks for the warning Keith!
Ugg.. I told my mom about this and she got mad at me saying she was safe cause she had a firewall. I don't think there would be a big deal about this if firewalls could protect you.. Well.. I'm just glad I use Fire Fox... x.x

Firewalls don't prevent virus getting in... ///

Yeah I know. That's what I keep telling my mom but she doesn't believe anything I'm telling her about this.. Even when I tell her there are multiple sources on the matter. x.x
thanks Keef! I use Safari and despite it's flaws (i.e. I have to buy CS items in FF cause Safari buys multiple items till my credits are gone LOL) it still works faster and better for me XD
You aren't in any danger if IE is on your computer and you're not using it. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /> It's just browsing sites on it that puts you at risk--you don't necessarily need to uninstall.

Lmao I Always Use Firefox ;P
Thank you very much, Keith-san. I appreciate this a lot, as I had no idea this problem existed and I am a huge IE user (though I use FF for Subeta). It looks like I'll be using FF a lot more from now on. <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />

Thanks again for taking the time to draw our attention to this problem.
Love the use of the Skulls of Mortal Terror ;DD
Well good thing I'm a Chrome patriot (:
Basically don't use IE till Microsoft have patched and fixed the flaw, once you know its all good and fixed, then go back to using IE if you still prefer it over the other browsers. But right now IE is not safe to use.

Thanks Keith for the update<img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />
I'm really glad I was noted! I use IE all the time, I would still be on it if it weren't for this post. Thank you.

I use Google Chrome and it works great for me...Better than Firefox. Just my opinion.
I actually heard about this on the news this morning.
Thanks for the warning.
uses FF anyway
I love how you guys added that legal stuff, and the maliciousness of it all SKULLS XD I switched to firefox ages ago and I've never looked back <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_grin.gif" border="0" />
most people have IE on their computers, I guess if you're really concerned delete any cookies from it and don't use it. they are working to fix the problem.
My question is similar to blackwolf's I have IE explorer, but I don't use it. Will it harm my computer if it is still on my computer? Should I delete the program? Or is it okay to just let it sit there?

It should be is how I'm thinking it but I'm not sure waiting for a reply. Which it kinda sucks cuz my gf needs into her hotmail and shes afraid to use it now cuz of that and shes got like 40 e-mails in it.

I'm glad my Dad made us switch to FF a while ago
i think as long as you aren't using IE and are using FF you guys should be safe <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" /> i have IE on my computer as well, but never use it. None of my passwords or other info is saved in it. FF is my king lol. it's unfortunate people aren't listening to the warnings though :/ good thing i got my parents on FF a year ago. they never use IE anymore.
My question is similar to blackwolf's:

I have IE explorer, but I don't use it. Will it harm my computer if it is still on my computer? Should I delete the program? Or is it okay to just let it sit there?
no it doesn't fondu... its a free service.
