Something is different here... Oh! Right, welcome to the new Subeta! We have worked very hard over the past few months to create a new layout that is easier for everyone to browse.
Here are some of the biggest changes that we've made with the new layout:
- The layout is now fluid in width, which means that it will resize itself depending on the size of your browser window. This lets us make things around the site fit the entire screen, and not feel so cramped.
- Widgets! These are the boxes on the left side of your screen. You can change the ones that are shown here. There are some really cool ones like showing your friend feed, the amount of quests you've done for the day, and more! They can also be dragged and moved around the sidebar, or hidden.
- Dashboard / Events: The dashboard is where the widgets live, and the events pane is where your events will live! You can change your preferences here, to how you would like the dashboard to act. We suggest setting it to smart so that you are notified when you have new events!
- Dropdowns, which means that we don't have to use up the entire sidebar for the navigation. We've reorginized the links to make a little more sense, and allow you to move around the site easier.
You may have noticed that your CustomCSS and your Pet Profiles have been cleared. They generally aren't compatible with the new layout, but we did save your coding and you can find it here! Feel free to copy it and paste it back into your CustomCSS/Pet Profiles, just be warned that everything might not work the same!
You can leave your feedback for the new layout here. We will be making changes to the new layout as we see problems (or things that should be changed).
Thank you for sticking with us and remaining loyal to Subeta, we really appreciate it and have worked really hard to make this layout as easy to use as we could. If you have any problems, please report them here, so that we can fix them quickly.

Actually I do like the whole new look and the drop down menus....what I don't like is how painfully slow it is and how sometimes the pages won't load at all. Maybe that's just for those of us who don't have particularly fast internet, if so, then I won't be able to play as it's driving me crazy! I hope things get better as this is where I spend most of my free time <img src="http://images.subeta.net/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif" border="0" />

I don't know what any of you are talking about. This site is very well structured - I can find everything I want without having to go looking everywhere for it - and is very pleasing on the eyes. I also like how malleable everything is - I can change my side board to do lots of different things. It's also very 'clean' in that I don't have to see anything I don't need. I can close any of the things I don't want to see, and I only see the links I need when looking for them (aka, dropping them down).

The only other petsite I know of with a drop-down menu is Neopets. :/
But like I said, when my cursor travels up to a different tab, drop down menus /always/ get in my way. This layout looks like it's going to take up waaaaaaay too much memory on my home computer, and I honestly don't know if I'll actually be able to even play.
I really wish it was possible to either browse with the old layout or the new layout, as apparently there seems to be a split opinion. It just... won't work for me. It's kind of upsetting.

Very neopets-esque. Surely you must have realized it when you made it? Basically an exact copy minus widgets, great art though, but really disappointed...
I'm going to be honest and say that, having a large monitor, having the whole screen taken up is just a tad bit overwhelming...but that might just be me. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Sweet, I'm diggin it. All you people that don't like it give it a chance, they worked too hard on it for you to shoot it down the same day they put it up. Remember, the only thing that doesn't change it change itself. So adapt!

o.o I can safely say that I don't like it. It's slow, it's cumbersome. Might just be me, but the news page is nearly impossible to read now, everything is all cramped together. But, like I said, that could just be me since my youngest was button smashing and changed my font on the whole computer, so now things are generally messed up.
...This doesn't look anything like Neopets. Are people just trying to find some desperate way to shoot it down? OH is it cause the navigation is a menu on top with drop-down selections? I can see how that would make the whole site be exactly like Neopets.
Anyways, this is just lovely. I notice a little extra lag and I keep getting logged out but the design itself I love and it's very easy to get accustomed to.

#1 - I'm not sure how having tabbed drop downs == Neopets. Can you give me more examples of how this layout is similar to the Neopets layout? Other than how we're both virtual pet sites... plenty of other sites have left-side bars along with top navigation. It's pretty common actually.
Also, the entire creative department (And I can assure you that our artists aren't 'second rate') worked on this layout, and no one who worked on it is what I would consider second rate. It's easy to label someone unprofessional unless you know... <strong>they get a professional job deigning a layout for a website</strong>. What exactly are the qualifications for being a 'professional'?
I'm not sure how this layout makes people have issues looking from left to right. I'm fairly sure that we haven't put a mirror to the text, and it all still reads from left-right. The most important information (dashboard) is on the left, which is where your eyes should look first...

So there's now no way to get to your profile page? Anyone notice how that post card picture comes down and blocks some of the text on the page? Like when you egg someone's house, you can't see all the text since the postcard comes down and blocks it. But yeah I'll never understand the trend of drop down menus...there's not one thing I like about drop down menus. Sidebars are so much better.
Tche - I actually prefer sidebar navigation to drop down menus because drop down menus are so annoying if you accidentally scroll over them. I've got a tablet so sometimes I'll accidentally click aways from something.

This is going to be tough to undo years of being familiar with the old layout. I'm already struggling to find things and it makes me frustrated, and when I'm frustrated I'm not having fun playing. I'll get over it eventually, but I don't adapt to such dramatic changes very easily.
i like it, just i find it confusing to get around. also, the prefrences link keeps taking me my page, and then logging me out. X( grr face.
I hate it at the moment, but that's because I'm on an old lady computer and all the settings make everything white... I can't see any of the background art or dropdown menus... I bet I'll love it back home, but right now it's just a pain. =(

It's a change of course, but I'm sure once I play around with it more, I'll get used to it. I do like the idea of how things are customized as far as what you want to see (there are some events I kept getting over and over again), and then there are something things I really wanted to have available so it's nice to be able and get what I want showing up.
It's a bit of a shock at first. It'll take some getting use to but change can be good. I was getting rather bored with the old layout. This is fresh and exciting. I like it.

Left sidebars actually totally sabotage the effect of looking left to right in continuity, as the extreme left has something you cannot read if you want to stay consistent. It makes it easier to the reader than a left sidebar.

Left sidebars actually totally sabotage the effect of looking left to right in continuity, as the extreme left has something you cannot read if you want to stay consistent. It makes it easier to the reader than a left sidebar.

i think thats the main problem with the style there is no design if the size is changing all time ... i think that is the only bad thing on the new layout... this makes subeta slow loading

Not liking it at all. I beta-tested it for a bit-- didn't like it then, don't like it now. Simple is better, in my opinion. I'm not a huge fan of tabs and drop-downs.
Hey I didn't realize I was on Neopets! Oh wait, my bad. This is STILL the most awkward looking layout I've ever seen. It's poorly designed, unoriginal and changes the entire westerner's natural instinct of working left to right. Just because the designer of the layout is some japanese fanatic doesn't mean they should work in reverse. There should've been a professional doing this layout instead of some second rate HQ staff member sitting around in her hello kitty pajamas playing with Photoshopz!1!11 So yes while everyones gasps in awe of the art -- which is lovely by the way, the artists are quite talented -- this shouldn't distract from the fact that the layout is a complete failure. This layout is not Subeta, this layout is Neopets.

And it also looks like it'll be very hard to tell when there's new news. I'll have to consciously look every time to see if there's an extra line there, instead of glancing and seeing that black outline. Maybe the news alert can be in red or some other color that stands out?
