New Shops - Gold Account Testing
Attention, Gold Account users! We have a new feature for you to test--revamped Shops and Galleries!
The user shops and galleries have been rewritten because they currently put a huge stress on our database, and it's affecting the ability of the site to function.
For the new shops and galleries, we’ve set limits for how many items you can have in each, which means we’ll be retiring the Super Shop! and Hoarder! achievements. Currently the limits are as follows: you can have 250 unique items in a shop, and 500 in a gallery. This limit doubles to 500 in a shop, 1000 in a gallery if you have a Gold Account. These limits are only for unique items, you'll be able to have as many duplicates as you'd like.
Your items won't disappear if your Gold Account expires while over the limit, you just won't be able to add any more until you have either sold/removed enough items or have an active Gold Account again. You can have up to 3 shops/galleries, or up to 6 with a Gold Account. We anticipate being able to raise these limits significantly, but we wanted to start off small and increase rather than starting off big and having to reduce it.
Gold Account testing for will be active until 11:59pm on April 16th. The new user shops/galleries will be released to everyone on the 17th. Once the new shops are live, you will not be able to add anything new to your old shops!
On April 24th, all old shops will be disabled. You’ll still be able to remove items from them, you just won’t be able to reprice items or have other users purchase from it.
The Super Shop! and Hoarder! achievements will be retired on the 17th once the shops/galleries go live for everyone.
Information and a link to the new shops can be found here if you're a Gold Account member. User not found: grelca will start pushing changes/fixing bugs on the 13th, so keep that in mind as you submit feedback. We will continue to make any necessary changes once shops/galleries are live for everyone to make sure they’re working to their full potential!
We know this will be a big change for a lot of people, but it's a crucial step for the continued improvement and success of the site, and for your overall user experience.

So what are we supposed to do with all of our items? We get a set number of shops and galleries, small treasure chests for pets that are expensive to expand, and a limit to our inventories, so everything else just has to go into vaults indefinitely? Won't that just transfer the problem from shops to vaults? What's the point in doing quests if A) people only put the most expensive things in their shops, and B) you run out of room for the items you earn? Won't prices skyrocket on things that are currently cheap because they won't be in shops anymore? Will you still bombard us with a million items for every site holiday when we don't have room for them anymore? What's the point in vending if we have nowhere to put the items? Why buy a GA if the extra quests are pointless (increasingly expensive + no room for the items) and you can only auto price a fraction of your items? Why are you enforcing item movement when you haven't provided an easy way for us to do it? Why is this a better solution that just hiring more coders or something? Are you actually going to consider the extreme negative backlash you've seen here, or are you going to make the changes anyway and alienate your userbase?

@Wesker I noticed that but I'm opposed to gallery limits entirely. This low is really absurd but ANY limit is too much for a collection area on a site that's so item-oriented.
putting new limits on shops is pretty ok and im sure we can adapt (even if the... item output with quests and vending and many other things is a bit high for those limits... I've been emptying my shop for months and it's just gotten below 300), but a limit to items in a gallery just kinda seems a little upsetting even if it's a big one. if you can't fill a gallery with as many themed items as possible, it becomes less of an accompishment measure and more of a measure of how well you can groom and tailor it.
How exactly does this discourage hoarding? I literally just emptied 9 years worth of items (pretty much every item I ever got) out of my vault and into my shop. It took me TWO weeks to move those items because there were so many. They aren't going to sell before this limit goes into effect, so I have no choice except to leave them or move them back into my vault... which is, correct me if I'm wrong... hoarding. Now I'll also continue to play, so any other items I get will go.. you guessed it, into my vault because my shops will already be full. So, once again, I'm hoarding, but this time it's against my will.

"We anticipate being able to raise these limits significantly, but we wanted to start off small and increase rather than starting off big and having to reduce it."
I feel like everyone panicking in here either missed this part or doesn't believe that the limit will ever increase.
Anyway, I saw that we can still remove items from the old shops once they have been disabled and add them to the new shops. Questions for staff or anyone that has answers:
1) Does the same hold true for galleries?
2) Will the old shops be deleted for good at some point?

As someone who does User Experience Design, it is PAINFUL to watch that word be thrown around haphazardly because it has a nice ring to it and makes things look business jargon-y.
UX is not only about performance, it is a holistic understanding based in knowing what your users need to do to enjoy your product and how they function. Which clearly is NOT what's happened here.
I could say a lot mroe and get a lot more rage-y about "user experience", but I'll just leave it with this:

you are all a bunch of whiny fucking children the shop database tables have been putting serious strain on the entire site for years and its been said a great number of times through staff posts over those years that something like this was going to be done

You have a total of 159884 items in your shop
Total items in gallery: 131/73246
Yessss I'm happy the limits are only for unique items xD But honestly. A 500 unique item limit? xD My only reason for having a GA is autopricing. It's not worth it for just 500 items. I'm all for limits, but I thought they would have been higher than that. If I do all my quests I usually get about 150 items a day. :/
We really need some way to easily transfer items.

Like most things, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
The limits are far too strict. I weep for my pets' unslotted treasure chest items and the galleries of hoarders.

I'm not a big collector, or RSer on site. so the only thing this did on my side, is make my husband happy I will be spending less on site not wanting to bother getting the GA now (only used it really for the AP which I wont really need). But, for those with all these collections and galleries ... sigh ... I hope something is done to make moving items easier for you.
(I will miss browsing galleries now as well. Its one of those things I enjoy doing on site to kill time in my day).

Of course one way to make the site function easier is by taking away site features. If you take away shops and galleries completely, the servers should zip along beautifully!

@Andraste
I can't imagine they'll ever delete the items.
You won't be able to add any more items to the shops, and no one else will be able to see them. so I guess you could leave them in there, but you could move them into your vault and have the same affect.
If they plan on deleting all of the old shops, I'm sure they'd provide a warning a good amount of time in advance.

Wow I totally agree with everyone else, 500/shop and 1000/gallery is ridiculous. I have way more than that now. I would have to make 6 separate galleries just to hold them all and have room for more some day. :(

@kbbob
Well at least that is somewhat helpful. I see your little gold icon, so maybe you can answer another question. If I don't do ANYTHING with them, is there going to be a time limit for how LONG they will let me do that? Or are they going to just decide one day that all of us who didn't switch over HAVE to and do it for us? Or delete our items?

SERIOUSLY NOW....

How the fuck am I going to be able to move all of that? You guys don't even have a mass restock for items already in shops and now that I mention it, why don't you?
Plus, with the rate the site gives out items, there's no way to stay under such restrictive limitations. Hell, I'm already almost to the limit now and I haven't quested in a week!

Why has the one constant with this site been shitty ass servers that can't seem to power a nightlight?!

@StarShadow
As do many, hence why this is a terrible idea.
It's like they took the average number of items in a shop and divided it by 10 and made that the limit :/

Just retire the hoarder achievements and that'll stop people hoarding for no reason. This is just insanely crappy for those of us who collect extensively. And no, the vault is not the answer. A lot of the fun of this site is seeing what creative galleries people come up with and looking at them.

If I don't take anything out of my shops, or do anything with my shops before or after the 17th....what will happen to them?
Because honestly I hate this, and if nothing will happen (ie: items/shops being deleted or automatically moved to my inventory/vault without my consent) then I'm leaving everything exactly how it is.

@StarShadow
Click on the 'Your Shops' link under the Commerce tab. That'll tell you how many items are in each shop, both unique and total.

@StarShadow Under the "commerce" tab, click on the link that says "Your Shops" (not the individual shops/galleries themselves).
What is the limit going to be on the vaults? It has to be next. Or the wardrobe? Or how many items we feed our pets? Or the pet treasures?
Could a real coder/programmer be hired to actually fix things like the wardrobe and other broken/half finished things..or buy a new, bigger server? You know...with the money expected from this?
Or just maybe, this will make gold accounts a lot less attractive? Sorry, but I find it strange that every time something is supposedly changed for the better it ALWAYS starts with a GA, and sadly nothing changes.
The site would actually run beautifully if it would just go ahead and become exclusive- GA account only ;)
I feel so bad for all of the hard-working players that have been trying for all of the big-hard-to-get achievements.

This sucks for those of us with extensive galleries. I understand the limit on shops if you must, but on galleries is ridiculous; the whole point is displaying collections. Some of which have more than 500 items.

I agree that some people won't. But without a sliver of a doubt, some people will, and that's a good thing. If you're just collecting items you like, this should make 0 difference to you. There's a perfectly good vault to put your pretties in without bogging down the entire site. But for people who were hoarding SOLELY for the hoarder achievement, which many were, then you're likely going to start selling items you didn't actually want to begin with. Nobody is going to sell items they really like and what to keep, I would never expect that... my point is simply that this update is a very big positive and not nearly the negative people are threatening to quit over.

OK, so question, how can I find out how many items I have in my gallery and shops now? I see the total amount at the bottom that it would make if everything sold but I have no idea if I have more than 1000 items in my gallery. Shouldn't we have some way of checking it before moving everything into a new shop and find out too late that only 1/2 of them fit?

So glad I came back to this site after years of hiatus only to deal with this two weeks later.
I feel another hiatus coming back around...
I feel another hiatus coming back around...

So on 4-17 I will have to move EVERYthing in my shops and gallery into new shops and gallery and reprice and recategorize them all over again? Ugh. :( Not looking forward to that at all.

@Mike
A lot of people won't do what you're saying to @KRAKEN. I, for one, will not liquidate my small gallery of potions/elixirs because why the heck would I liquidate them when I bought them because I like them and want to collect/hoard them in the first place?
Sure, some may do so because they changed their mind about collecting/ can't be bothered/ decide to leave the site after this update, but most likely the majority of people will just move the items from their gallery and massive store them in their vaults. And that will definitely not increase the number of items on the market, less alone be of any benefit to the economy.
Also, regarding your point about selectively stocking items, please see my earlier comment on this page.

What if galleries were set up like the plushie/beanbag and other collections are now? They seem to run efficiently even with thousands of items. That would reduce the server load a lot (I'd imagine) AND make the users with large galleries happy. Since most collectors don't plan on selling their items anyway, I don't think it'd be too much of an issue to destroy the "item" when adding it to the gallery like the other collections.
Move on to new shops as planned and increase the limit since the galleries won't be taking up those resources.
Seems like a win all around.

Question for @SubetaTeam or @grelca: if I have a ridiculous amount of sp just in my shop till because I wanted the shop till saver achievement, what happens after the new shops open and the current ones close? Can I still claim my shop till?

"for the good of the site" sounds like a good argument but will it really better the site much? We have like 2 programmers (not counting keith bc he has his own thing, amber is still relatively new to this thing). honestly there kind of needs to be a reallocation of resources, pooling into either better resources (servers) and/or hiring another programmer to spread the workload. Grace is going on vacation thing for a week so technically it's like 1 programmer here, scarsdale. i feel the sentiment that Speiro had posted in the forums, that it seems like subeta is punishing the users while implementing changes, which shouldn't be the case...
This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a LONG time. I never comment on site updates because I can usually see some benefit even when there's mass complaining. In this case, I really can't see the upside; everyone who's complaining is 100% on the money. That this is even being considered makes me angry.
250 items per shop? Who thought that was a good number to start at?! Even without GA, if you do all your vends and quests you can make double that in a SINGLE day. That's not even taking into consideration the many, many, many items that sit around in shops for months before they sell. Basically, everyone's items are going to end up in their vaults because there's NOWHERE else to put them.
This is replacing subeta's entire economy with hoarding. All the thousands of items that exist on the site (over 72,000 on subeta lodge!) are going to be compressed into 250/500 item shops? Of course not. People are only going to put the most expensive items in their shops, so all junk items that quests rely on will be completely inflated or unfindable. Anything that's a popular quest item for the day is going to be basically unpurchasable.
If this is meant to make GA more appealing to those of us who waver on and off, it's a complete fail. This basically renders autopricing useless. And that's pretty much the primary reason I (and most people I know) get GA.
I could get on board with shop limits, in some capacity, but these limits are beyond excessive. The non-GA shop limit should at the very least exceed 1000.
Most annoying of all is the terrible logic behind this update: let's make the site faster. Great, let's make shops super fast, but vaults unwieldy and unusable instead! Sounds fabulous. Why 'fix' something that isn't broken? There's a right way and a wrong way to address site speed.
