Neugarten 2019!

So yeah...Neugarten is here! Go eat food and buy stuff. I'm just glad to get out of the fast food kitchen for a week!
Neugarten will end at 11:59pm on July 5th.

If you're going to be making "vegan" items, make a lot more of them. A whole lot more. Otherwise it's painful how few there really are. It may have been better to label them as something other that "vegan" but it's too late for that.
This...is actually super cool to me, for two reasons.
1.) Last year's turn was extremely odd and kind of...eugh because Alegarten was very clearly based on a real life holiday (the German Oktoberfest) so using that to preach about how terrible meat is, for a holiday based in a real-life one from a real-life culture whose food (much of it meat) has real-life cultural significance, struck me as very appropriative. This on the other hand makes perfect sense because you literally see this kind of thing in real life these days: even the cheapest music festival for instance has at least one bit on being more sustainable, and there is always at least a few vegan stalls at most fairs;
and 2.) it gives me warm fuzzies because it reminds me of a farmer's market I went to with my mom a few years ago when I visited her during the summer.

So about Gunter, is he still languishing in jail? I thought the plot might surface during Neugarten...

I am super happy that there was a return of more options with items this year. Last years sudden change to practically vegan only was a shock and yes it's nice but not everyone is so into the vegan movement. I'm so glad to see that they have changed it this year to include local products and sustainability. To me focusing on sustainability and small business along with vegan options sends a great message

I still think more broadly traditional european-inspired garments would be a neat idea for future neugarten wearables, especially now that it's no longer all lederhosen inspired :eyes:

lol sounds like a true sustainability project XD which would be very apt for this event i guess! :ok_hand: i'm sure there'd be other pets waste-products that could be re-purposed in following years :P Reduce Reuse Recycle~ha! I was considering it like proper pet maintenance & what are you going to do with all that shedding? Throw it in the garbage? NO. You reuse that goop to make a delicious dessert! :9 haha.

also vegan sushi sounds dope as hell i'd never thought about it before bc i'm not into sushi but i could be into this vegan sushi or rather it could be into me yknow

last year's neugarten personally didn't bother me any, but i LOVE what this year has brought! it's really fleshed it out and it's cute and genius.
local small farm products & sustainability are my Big Jam though so i'm biased, they're so vitally important and i'm really passionate about it IRL so this is dope :ok_hand: thank y'all so much

I was absolutely thinking about those snails on treadmills getting their slime harvested for skin care. (that and making plant milks by squeezing the bag) And also yes. Got to get that healthy glow/ that soft bounce/ all that chok chok. ;)I'm pretty sure snail mucin is tasteless though I admit I have never sampled it, but it does make really lovely face cream  ElishaCoy and Mizon are the best brands imnsho.
& honestly, when i saw that ping, i thought for sure you were going to be yelling at me for either being too vegan or for not being vegan enough. haaaa.

Don't really see much I need, the longer hair is nice. Would still love to see skirts to match the lovely Alegarten Shirts.

Love the sustainability stall! I use beeswax wrapper all the time so I'm excited to see those in there!

Hey, you know what would be fun to have in the Neugarten shop, maybe next year?
Bug-based foods that are sustainable and good for the planet, but also offer non-plant protein to people who do not care for or cannot have many plant-based proteins.
People with severe FODMAP intolerance not only can't eat gluten and many other grain-based proteins, they also can't have corn, legumes (and dairy but vegans don't eat that). That makes "balancing your proteins" kinda impossible and I'm really glad that after I was properly diagnosed with celiac disease, I turned out not to have the degree of FODMAP intolerance I was afraid I had developed, and was able to safely consume beans and dairy again--not everyone is so lucky (and I have to be careful with both). But bugs are just fine, and are actually beneficial to your gut flora--unless you are allergic to crustaceans.

@frederick there should definitely be cookbooks!
@Amber Lederhosen are for sure boring, but someday it would be nice to revisit hats, and cute stockings instead of the weird "leg warmer" things, and I also really super loved the Viking clothes. I actually use the dresses and overdresses. People in the history of Eastern Europe have worn a lot of fun and interesting clothes.

@frederick We planned to expand Neugarten out! It was never going to be just vegan stuff, but Branch out organically while bringing in different NPCs. This time we had a few years down the road game plan unlike Alegarten with "beer is endless let's do a holiday around it nothing will go wrong" hahaha

@Valiska To be fair, I was upset that we lost two interesting events that actually felt like holidays in order to have Neugarten, on top of being preached at and offered food items that largely seemed like they should be everyday restockables.
At least turning it towards a kind of farmer's market/local foods fair can make it feel like it has a genuine reason to be time limited and expensive rather than the overall weirdness and WTF it was last year. It also offers a ton more options for items that can be on offer without feeling like you're beating a dead, vegan horse after a year or two. And on that note, no cookbooks is kind of disappointing.

anyway what a great day not to get upset over food on a petsite that are pixels!!
very lovely items, with great detail??? thanks for all the extra food for galleries and treasures and such! A+ to staff

Anyone know if the Food Market will continue to sell last year's stock year round or just during this event? Just want to know where to chase down my WL items first :)

Okay, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to Neugarten. I was here for a very tiny portion of time for it last year, but I have no idea how this works. Will all of this stuff be available next year as well, or does it all retire after Neugarten is over this year?
i literally butchered animals before and have no moral issue with that whatsoever, so naturally i don't agree with vegans often when it comes to food sources. but i'm sure not gonna @ them for stating opinions (even if a little passive-aggressive ones) in pet site news comments... pointless drama is a choice.

@Stiles ...wow.
Are you actually calling people who are thanking the staff for making this event inclusive of everyone "gloating"?
I don't see any omnivores in the comments putting people down for being vegan or not eating meat.
Other people have said they were disappointed, which is their right to say, but they're not claiming to be offended by pictures of food they can't or won't eat themselves. That's why I mentioned you specifically.
I don't care what you eat, and I don't think you're wrong for eating what you eat, and there are a lot of vegan foods that I enjoy eating, even though I am absolutely not vegan. I care about people putting each other down and particularly about the impression some people got last year that the staff thinks they're not good people.
There are foods on this site that are made from humans and from pet species that actually are intelligent enough to hold down jobs as scientists and designers and government agents, you know. We're on a site that encourages us to feed our pets "Kumos Tail Sandwiches" and "Human Tar Tar" and suddenly there are news posts that imply that eating normal foods is morally wrong.
Clearly you personally believe that it is morally wrong, and it is your right to believe that.
But if you can't understand why people would get mad about being told that they are immoral and cruel for eating steak and chicken on a site where they're encouraged with achievements to feed their pets things that are made from actual people, you're not thinking very clearly. That's why the holiday last year was upsetting to omnivores--particularly those who had been looking forward to the event and then not only felt that it was taken away from them, but also that they were bad for even wanting it.

Apologies for the wall post but not it's content, ik it can be annoying to see a huge block of text or think a fight is starting <3 just wanted to say my point to them, have a good one everyone.

@Valiska first please don't ping me to make a ridiculous comparison or call me out with a stupid comparison such as your not being able to have bread and alcohol to my not wanting to think about/look at/be reminded that innocent animals are being murdered to satisfy people's lack of wanting to find alternate sources, they don't compare at all, and you're a fool for even trying to make that argument and @ me when I made a simple comment and didn't even start an argument. Don't tell me what I can and can not do :) I know you are likely looking for an argument because you did @ me but it's pointless with someone that thinks the way you do. I wasn't @ people just making a comment like everyone else is allowed to. And several were far more unreasonable that I was or gloating. Don't @ me please and don't take an attitude with me that I didn't ask for it warrant simply for saying one thing. I wasn't even looking at this post anymore. it's extremely annoying to say one small thing and have a random person come at you for it when the majority of the comments are attacking a lifestyle that was represented last year saying that acknowledgment of said lifestyle was attacking them when it was just a fun event to include a smaller majority in site while making a cute event. I find it funny honestly that those who said they were attacked last year by the vegan/veggie Neugarten and they felt horrible and guilty and judges are the ones making those same hinting comments this year like yours. Anyway, rant over, Have a nice Neugarten 2.0.

@Aquabreeze yes on the gluten-free please (I'm celiac).
@Stiles If I can tolerate looking at pictures of all the beer and bread I can't have, you can tolerate looking at meat pictures.
If I can tolerate looking at all the poop items that are somehow not only in the Lost Skeleton and Half Baked but even in Quick Bites...you can tolerate looking at meats.
The meat never actually went away. There was still meat in the Brewery last year. If you are annoyed that you have to go into the local/sustainable section that contains meat to buy some of the vegan food, you could ask to have it moved to Rumi's.
But it's all just pixels in the end anyway.
What's important is that nobody is being shamed directly or by implication for what they do or do not choose to eat this year.
Also....
@Amber THANK YOU THANK YOU for Shanti's shop. So many times the items that appear to be cups and bottles turn out to either be non-wearable (I would be so pleased if those decorated beer steins were wearable because my late father collected them), or they are wearable but they are actually eyes or hair or whatever. I like my avatars to be able to have a drink from time to time, but to do that they need cups and bottles that are actually cups and bottles, and now there are more of those. :) :) :)

i hope i've read the comments right, that this year's items will still be available next year? i'm hoping so anyway, as i might just grab my faves this year, and wait to get the rest of what i need...i NEEd the

Not tossing shade at individuals, but those of y'all complaining that meat was brought back.. come on guys. No one's making you buy the items, and doing this is inclusive to everyone. If you wanna buy vegan stuff, head to Rumi's. Plenty of stuff she has in stock to satiate ya. I see no harm in Wes having some sausages and wursts for us meat lovers.
Oh some of the patterns on those reusable bags would make for some cute aprons as well
The food looks so good!

Now I'm hungry after browsing all that stuff
Cauliflour steaks, um yes please
