Velasco is a rebel without a cause, a young punk who's been screwed over by the status quo too many times to feign contentment, though at times he struggles to direct all his frustration and anger in a constructive way. He's working on it; with the help of his boyfriend and an awful lot of therapy, things have been starting to look better for him lately. He's works at a shop that buys and sells cool swords and knives and the like, which is something he actually enjoys and has passion for - to the point where he's entertained the idea of becoming a blacksmith by trade, if he could find someone to apprentice under. He lives with his boyfriend now, and the stable environment has been taking a lot of stress off, even if they do struggle with money sometimes. He also is getting more involved with activist groups and niche counterculture groups in his area, finding ways to channel his emotions and experiences into something positive. He still gets up to a lot of mischief, though - mostly tagging cars and buildings in upper-class neighborhoods, nowadays, so at least it's kind of like direct action. It's an improvement.

Though he still works to keep his anger issues and moodiness in check, Vel has a boisterous personality and a big sense of humor. He isn't quick to trust, and struggles a lot with paranoia even with people he's close to. Having serious, emotional conversations is also difficult for him as he works through breaking down the walls he's built around himself, so many friendships of his have faded due to communication issues. Still, he'll be quick to make friendly with anyone who doesn't treat him badly or mess with someone he cares about, and he's a fun guy to kick back and smoke with. He's open-minded and smart, and one of his favorite things to do is engage in friendly debates and philosophical discussions about anything and everything with someone who he thinks is on his level. As such, few things make him angrier than being treated like he's stupid.

Their apartment complex doesn't allow pets without a deposit, and they most definitely will not be paying a deposit, but Yian and Vel have two pets - a fat white cat named Gyro and a doberman named Mal. Velasco raised Mal from a little puppy, and he adores that pooch more than almost anything or anyone else. He likes to joke that Mal is a big vicious guard dog, but she honestly wouldn't hurt a fly and gets regularly bullied by Gyro.
