-----------------------------------------------: Why Angels Don't Fly :
Here you will find a short story featuring Chained and Moonrise. A 'proper' story will come, until then, enjoy this~
-slightly modified-
"Oh go eat a rotten rat, you mangy alley cat!" the man's voice came out bitter and cold, obviously hinting his hatred towards the woman who was currently tailing him.
Her feline ears flicked about, while a cat-like grin crossed her lips. "Only if you think you're up for it birdie~" she smirked, walking along the pipeline of the rooftop. Her remark got a roll of the eye from the white-haired man, the beautiful angelic wings shifting on his back. Though they were a pure white in color, they were singed with a orange-red color, quickly followed by a dark charcoal. It would almost seem like he was on fire and burning away, though, no flames moved around him or even on him. Still, it gave a pretty good illusion, especially in contrast to his acquaintance.
The woman was clothed in black and dark purple, looking like some kind of rave artist or night creeper. Her feline ears and matching tail giving away her genetics, not that she cared any at all. She was a Were, specifically of the panther variety. Some what rarer than the more common wolf or tiger, but still just as deadly. She had a air of pride about her as she walked, very common of cats and her type, however, in this case, it was because she was in the presence of an artificial angel, as they are called. Everyone knew how few the Artificial Angels were, most either dying in the fusion process or being killed afterwords by their own wings; or at the hands of someone else. After all, to be a Artificial Angel, one must also be a murderer.
Though, murder was more common around then rather than in the past, so it wasn't the woman's biggest concern. However, it would seem as if it was the woman who was doing the pestering, seeming to be enjoying her new play toy and tormenting him for what one could only guess was sick pleasure.
"Go bother someone else will ya?" the man grumbled a bit, wings shifting in irritation as he stepped over some loose pipes. The woman didn't falter though, only grinning a bit more "Aww, does the birdie want to be left alone?... is he afraid the big ol' mean kitty cat is gonna eat him?" purposely using that sort of 'baby talk' to tick him off more. She was successful, getting a angered growl from the man as he stopped at the roof top ledge and turned towards her "You just try and eat me and I'll make sure to shove that furry twig growing out of your butt down your throat" his breath making a smoke cloud with every word he spoke, though he had gotten used to this... defect.
The woman wasn't budging, jumping down from the pipeline and striding over to him with feline grace and confidence. She raised a clawed hand to his chest, giving him a slight jab as she spoke "Oh? I'd like to see you try~" she smirked, causing the man to flinch some at the poking. He may have been skilled in 'some' combat, but he wasn't about to pick a fight with this woman. She was a practiced criminal, having heard her name all over the news and air reports. She was well known for her expertise in cat burglary, though she had also done armed robbery among other things. Some called her 'Moonrise' thanks to her moonlight scandals she often played on the police and other authorities. But all that didn't matter to him right now; right now, he was worried about himself, but keeping to his bitter sort of attitude, however a glance over his shoulder gave him a bit more to think about.
Over the ledge was a 100 story drop straight into the landfill. From this height he knew he wouldn't survive the fall, and even if he did, he had no one who would risk their own life to try and save him from the Death Springers. Though why should someone with such large and beautiful wings be afraid of falling? Well, truth was, he couldn't fly. Despite the wings and their somewhat acceptance and fusion with him, he didn't exactly know how to use them, and never really chanced it; fear of them being ripped out by velocity's falling force. He was never a fan of heights anyways, even before all this. It was ironic only in the sense that his kind were used to high rocky areas and climbing mountain faces. Not that it mattered right now anyways, the only thing that mattered was that he was very high up and there was no easy way down.
The woman caught the pale look her got, smirking a bit slyly as she spoke "Oh? is birdie afraid of heights?" this was returned with a sharp "No!" though it only made her chuckle and move a bit closer to him "Really now?... well alright then, lets see you fly birdie~" she grinned though didn't give him much time to respond before giving him a shove, knocking him backwards off the roof top.
The sudden jolt caused the man to flare out the magnificent wings of his, even if he couldn't use them, the impulse to balance out was inevitable. Though, that reflex was quickly pushed past and replaced with his human fear of heights and quickly, he turned in mid-air, doing so just in time to catch himself on a metal pole bearing a local flag. Clinging to the pole for dear life, the man hung there for a few moments, getting an unimpressed look from the woman. "What are you doing?" she asked and was quickly answered. "WHAT IN THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!?" no more hiding that fear of heights as it broke through that wall he had been keeping up and easily leaked through his voice. The woman quirked a brow, starring down at him calmly, as if it was no big deal. "I'm seein' what those pretty wings of yours can do... what are /you/ doing? Doncha ya know how to fly?" she asked, chuckling a bit. "NO, NO I DON'T KNOW HOW TO FLY!!! DO YOU THINK I'D BE HANGING HERE FOR THE FUN OF IT?!?!" he snapped, clearly in distress.
The woman chuckled and knelt down, crossing her arms across her lap as she looked down at him "Aww, you're so cute when you're angry~" she smirked, though tilted her head some as she watched the man attempt to shift from his clung position on the pole and trying to reach the building next to them. Though, he only ended up making it worse, nearly slipping before putting a death-grip hug on the pole. The woman was having too much fun with this, obviously, and so jumped down from the ledge she was at to the small ledge the pole hung off of, stepping lightly on the pole itself and causing it to vibrate lightly. "DON'T DO THAT!!!!" she got from the man, rather angrily if she did say so herself. Shaking her head and crossing her arms she waved a finger at him "Tsk tsk tsk~ watch your tongue~ I'm the only one around to say your flightless arse~" she chuckled, though it made her stop and think, tapping her chin as she did so.
"How is it that you have wings but can't fly, huh?" she tilted her head a bit at him, giving him a curious cat grin. "I DON'T KNOW! WHAT IS THIS? TWENTY QUESTIONS?! JUST GET ME DOWN!" he shouted at her, though with that his grip slipped, causing him to loose his hold on the pole, catching himself by one hand. Those wings added about 10 extra pounds to him, and already not being the most athletic person in the world, the strain on his arm keeping himself from falling was practically unbearable; he would likely fall if not some how rescued before fatigue set in. The woman sighed, still keeping her cool and placing her hands upon her hips "Now look what you've done~" she said frowning a bit before sighing and stepping out onto the pole, balancing with ease as she made her way out to his hand. Just as his fingers were about to give, she caught him by the wrist, growling a bit at his weight pulling her down. Immediately he clung to her hand, however it didn't last long as he suddenly felt himself being tossed upwards, getting thrown over her shoulder and back onto the roof.
It took him a moment to catch what had happened, having landed on his rump and stuck in a bit of a daze. He shook himself a bit, straining to get to his feet as he felt a light tug on his wings, turning and swinging at whoever it was, but his hand was stopped in mid-air by the woman. "Gesh, I save your rear end and this is the thanks I get?" she chuckled, letting go of his wrist before striding around him. "Well... I wouldn't have gotten into that predicament if you hadn't pushed me.." he growled, rubbing his wrist as he tried to slow down his racing heart. The woman chuckled, propping herself against one of the pipelines and quirking a brow at him "Still, no thank you?" she asked, grinning some.
The man hesitated, grumbling something but not turning to look at her. She tilted her head a bit, a tug of a smirk coming across her lips "What was that?" she chimed, the man flinching at such a tone. "Thank...you..." he gritted through clenched teeth, after all, it was her fault in the first place he got into that predicament. The woman smiled, fixing her gaze upon him like a cat to it's prey. "I like bothering you, my little bird~" she grinned. The man rolled his eyes, scoffing at her words.
"Great~"
