Help Japan: Single Paper Crane

Single Paper Crane

As you may have heard over the weekend, Japan suffered a major earthquake, and one of strongest in recorded history. Relief efforts are ongoing, as waves continue to hit throughout the country, making rescue and recovery difficult. Our hearts go out to all of our Japanese users, as well as the citizens of Japan coping with this difficult time.

I know times are hard for everyone right now, but if you'd like to assist with relief efforts, you can text the letters REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation, or by going to the Red Cross website. Other organizations are also joining the efforts in Japan, and every little bit helps.

The item at the top of this post is the new Free Gift.

best of wishes Japan ♥️
I really admire the unity and calmness in all of this, you guys are handling this tremendously well, you have a massive sense of strength and I think the way you guys continue to look out for each other, even total strangers, is really saving you guys. ♥️ ♥️it's definitely a tragic time, but I have no doubt you guys will re-build strong. ♥️

Avliss

Thank you for this. The worst part about this is that the earthquake and tsunami have spiked off another problem: the nuclear reactors on Japan are exploding, so citizens and volunteers are in danger of radiation poisoning. It really is just one blow after another. Luckily, none of the students at my school have been directly affected, but my thoughts are with everyone who has been. May the victims rest in peace, and I wish the survivors all the luck in the world in recovering from this tremendous disaster.

P.S. I especially like the free gift. The paper crane has always been associated with peace and healing in Japan especially, so it is fitting to have it as a reminder for us here, safe in our own homes.
0

sikkykins

wow, i didn't know this happened T_T
...

that's so sweet, an announcement about what happened. we must all come together
0

Koikoi

It was only a matter of time till this reached Subeta.

There are some Japanese exchange students at my school, and it's great comfort to hear from them when they tell me their families are okay.

I'm not religious, and I don't have money, so I can't pray nor donate, but I will keep Japan in my thoughts and hope that these disasters will stop.

IN OTHER NEWS, other than Japan.
The surrounding islands were also greatly effected, and I don't see anyone helping them -shakes head-
0

Maple

I'm surprised subeta even mentioned this, but I definitely appreciate it as a human being.

Unlike some other comments...
0

I wish I could!!!! I wish I could donate blood as well, next time the Blood Bus comes to my school I'ma tell em Send it to japan!
0

Chibibun.

My cousin was over in Japan when the earthquake hit, but luckily he's safe. It's sad to say that not everyone was as blessed as he was.

Thank you for this Subeta, from the bottom of my heart.
0

Masaki

thanks for posting this, keith.

I have already spend money through livejournals to the red cross and I really pray and hope that most of the people (regarding the atomic crisis) can be saved...
that was the darkest day japan could have...
I feel so sorry for the people there and I wish I could help more
0

Jenni

It is terrible what is happening out there, thank you for this Subeta, it's beautiful.
0

Fray

@Debs

You worded your post much better than I ever can. xD You see, that's exactly what I mean!! It's nice to spread awareness and such, and it IS really tragic, but some people just can't afford to donate, and yet it's mentioned on every website they frequent, trying to get people to donate when some just can't. Plus there ARE plenty more problems in the world that need funds aswell, not just this one. I guess it's just 'cause of the scale of it, and such.
0

Judgement_126

If you cannot donate money I implore you to donate blood. Right now, as far as US statistics, only 3% of eligible donors do so. One pint can save up to 3 lives. And it's free!

Thanks for spreading the awareness and the beautiful free gift! ♥️

This is very touching. Seeing Subeta reach out to those affected by the tragedies in Japan has truly made my day. Not to mention the free gift is quite lovey.

I hate to see so many people get agitated in one way or another over this thoughtful news post, though. 8|
0

Blastoise

Hopefully people find relief in Japan, my heart goes out to you all there :o
0

Sugar

I was hoping this would be done, like it was for Hatti. I know of three different families who live there and fortunately none of them were affected. I'll be donating through a different organization though, because the money will get there faster than with any other company as it goes directly into a Japanese bank account >.< I pass all my love to those in Japan and I wish you all good fortune :)
0

Tribunal

I'm glad the awareness is there but I wish Subeta (and others) would stop pushing donate by text so much.
There are a lot of scams related to it and depending on your carrier and plan sometimes the phone companies make quite a bit of money off of it on top of forcing the charities to pay more overhead to process the donations and wait longer for their money.

It's quick and easy, and the only way some people can donate, but the system still has a long way to go. Thanks for at least including the links as well, too many people just push the 'text' with no alternatives.
0

Very touching!

Sorry hun its great your getting attention for them but every of site i go on is bombing me with requests to send funds i simply do not having being almost 300 behind in bills this month. I feel bad for that country but wish there was more help here for the homeless and poor in USA

RainOfStars

Posting from Japan:

Thank you Keith, for the beautiful item and for calling attention to this terrible real life tragedy. Myself and my loved ones are living in Okinawa and thankfully have not been directly affected by the earthquake/tsunami/ongoing situation, but I pray every day for the people on the mainland. I echo your encouragement for people to make a donation, even a small one, and pray for the people who lost their homes and loved ones, and for a speedy recovery.

Love from Okinawa, Japan
0

JiHyun

Thanks subeta for showing concern for Japan, The item itself is beautiful.
I personally love description.
0

Fray

Then that's your opinion, and that's fine. *shrugs* I guess I'm just not as soft as most other people. I care mostly about the wellfare of animals in the world, to be honest. That doesn't mean I don't care about people, though!! Don't get me wrong. Like I said it IS tragic, and I do feel sorry for them.
0

Laura

@McKay

what kind of cold makes one ignorant? sorry, but... I just can't fathom how anyone can be so dismissive, when hearing about this on-going disaster. this really isn't the place to be sharing your complaints.
0

Fray

Oh lord. Listen, lemme reword my post before you guys continue to go off on one:

There are PLENTY of problems in the world, okay? This is just one.. Sure it's tragic and all, and you can't help but feel sorry for them, but I don't need it shoved in my face 24/7. And when did I say it was an inconvience to me? lol. Probably shoulda worded my post like this from the beginning. Sorry for offending you guys. You can stop ganging up now. :) I am unwell with a cold, so I'm not thinking 100% straight.
0

FAKE

*...WHY I WROTE FLUKE. I mean, Fever. FeverFeverFever.
0

FAKE

@McKay when you catch a fluke, when you broke a leg, when you are hungry, is that's because nature is acting. If you don't search for a cure (going to a hospital, eating something), then, you better die because "is against the nature"? Of course there's nothing we can do to stop earthquakes, but at least we can help the people who's suffering right now, traped, starving, scared. Helping others is our human nature.
0

Laura

there is plenty we can do about it after it happens. have a heart and stop with the stupid "lol" comments.
0

Laura

@McKay

seriously? just keep those thoughts to yourself. people have lost their lives, whole towns have been wiped out. families, friends & pets are missing, homes destroyed, all their belongings gone... then there is the radiation leaks, which is a global concern. but wait, WE'RE sorry it's an inconvenience to you.
0

Fray

lol, I knew I'd get comments like this. It's an opinion, folks.. don't you have them?? Nature works like this all the time. There's nothing we can do about it. xD
0

demon

@McKay

you're terrible. you'd not be saying that if your family was in that crisis. show some compassion, jesus.
0

Wow, you really are an ass.
0

My thought is for Japan.
and I'll do my best.
0

Fray

Thanks for the free gift, and it's great you post about rl issues, but..

Not more about japan. .-.
Don't mean to be shallow, but, honestly, I don't need it mentioned about it on every website I'm on, since, really, it doesn't concern me at all. xD But that's just me, ya know.. I believe that us, the people, are in the way of nature, and that disasters like this are completely natures way of reminding us that's the earth is much more powerful than us.

Still.. thanks anyway.
0

jammy_may

Thank you so much.
0

From Japan. I'm so grateful to Subeta for new item and this news post.
Me and my family are all safe (except rolling blackouts), but some friends are still in the disaster-stricken area...
We have to keep usual life to avoid stopping economic activities, and make effort to help people in these areas.

Thank you for Subeta, all your staffs, and all users here. (:

I can't express in words how I feel... Just...

0

We'll all praying for everyone in Japan.

Once I get the guts to get blood taken out, I will just for the people who are suffering.

I hope Japan pulls through this horrible event.
0

HISTORY_377

Thank you Keith, and staff, for presenting this kind of an issue again. I remember when you did it with Haiti, and I thought it was beautiful then. But I think it's even more beautiful now. Thank you for that. We are thinking of you, Japan, in your time of need.
0

Tatiana

This is a nice item to show our support. Thanks for make it subeta.
I can't do a big donation, but anything is better than nothing. And who can't donate, just pray for them. They need our support in moments like this.
0

Dunwich

We watched videos about it in class and this little prick goes " what am i gonna do without new ipods?" the teachers flipped but didn't send him out. then we watched a video a little boy frozen in fear in front of the massive wave. he only moved when it was too late and the little jerk pipes up and says ' oh,look, he's going surfing!". people make me sick. when i told others of his horrible comments i was surprised at how many people in my school did NOT care about japan. one girl even said they deserve it for killing whales. it made me sick.People in general make me sick. my heart (and soon my money) goes out to those poor souls in japan.
0

CORE

By nature, I'm usually not too effected by these kind of things(maybe it just doesn't tend to sink in), but when I saw this on the news it literally hurt.

Thank you for showing you care, Subeta.

The people of Japan have my thoughts, love and hope.
0

Tilcara

I agree with Flux, I think she's got a good idea. I would happily buy CSC now instead of waiting for "sales" knowing part of the money would go to Japan.

The crane is a nice idea though and it's better than nothing.
0

I'm participating on the LJ charity auctions to raise money :(

One of my favorite Hetalia fanartists lives in the prefecture closest to the quake. I hope she made it out okay. There's several other people I've met on the internet who live near where the quake struck.
0

SnowPaw

I would donate to Japan but, I live in Christchurch and we have been having aftershocks since September last year and we recently had that really shallow earthquake. Sorry Japan.
0

Hiallina

It's such horrible news... my (and all our) heart is with the people of Japan.

Sadly, cannot donate money nor blood. Am trying my best to help sharing the information and awareness across the internet though ... hopefully it will help, even if a little bit.
0

Minni

So sad :( I was so shocked while I watched it on TV happening. I couldn't think of anything but oh my heck! I'm so sorry for the people that have lost loved ones and friends. As soon as I heard how we could donate, I did it right away. They need all the help they can get.
0

Kadaj

Beautiful. But I'd rather be over there helping people, not spreading what little money I have to an organisation I'm not 100% sure is going to take care of it the way I intend to.
0

atechu

Everyone is in my thoughts and prayers.
Each adult in my family donated $50 to the Red Cross and/or Doctors Without Borders.
I know it's not a lot, but at least it's something. :c
0

Done!! :)
0

Pandora

Oh - I wish I could edit my last post.

I'd like to make a clarification:

Text message donations may not be sent to Japan until after your next cellphone billing cycle is completed - a process that can take up to 90 days.
0

Directioner

When I saw the video clips on the news, I started bawling. My heart and prayers go out to any of those affected by this disaster, and I wish everyone with lost or hurt family members all the luck in the world. I'd be so devastated if this happened to me or my loved ones, and I'll be praying for a fast recovery for Japan tonight.
0

DRUID_214

Thank you Subeta for bringing awareness to this crisis!
My heart goes out to all those affected <3
0

Pandora

Be aware - A little controversy is stirring about text message donations being sent to Japan. Apparently, certain carriers like Verizon and AT&T will wait up to 90 days to transfer funds to the areas where they are desperately needed. Obviously, that time frame can make a considerable difference.

The same situation happened after the Haiti earthquake, but these carriers came through and changed the policy for those donations. Right now, petitions are circulating attempting to get major cellphone carriers to make the aid donations a priority, so I wouldn't completely rule out donation via text message.

I just thought I'd throw that out there, since major cellphone carriers do not make a habit of releasing such important information.
0

heavenly_blue

We wish to express our gratitude from the bottom of one's hearts.
0

RenBug

Honestly tho thank you subeta for trying so hard to raise awareness about all forms of real world issues. Be is natural disasters, or illnesses in your own way. Since awareness really is the main thing. Once people know, people can help.

0

ROCK

Very cool, subeta :)
Also, to those donating, I am trying to raise awareness to all of the smaller communities and islands and small countries who don't have it in their budget or manpower to respond to a tragic series of geologic events such as these.
0

Keith

All of those charities are set up to take money and put it to the right use. That's all a CS item would do, is us take the money (and paypal take a share of it, and then us have to put some towards administrative charges) and then give that money to charity.

It doesn't make sense for us to handle charitable contributions. It just doesn't.
0

RenBug

Thanks subeta. It's a beautiful and meaningful item and a amazingly nice gesture your doing.

@FLUX

People are moved since subeta douse try hard to raise awareness about most natural disasters. Like hatie and japan. Besides why donate money to subeta for subeta to send it to charity ( a non charitable site when paypal takes some of the proceeds sellers make) when you can donate strait to the relief bypassing the middle mam and help the people directly without loosing money in the middle.
0

Sweet

Already donated. ;) This is another reason why I love Subeta.

Thank Subeta. Really.
My roomate is from Japan and she acts like the earthquake is no big deal. But once she saw the pictures and the news she reacted. Everyone is praying for the people there. We are donating so much, but thank you for raising awareness. A few people act like it's not a big deal, but it is.
0

FLUX

I think this is lovely, but Sebeta could do so much more without much effort on it's part =/ They could say that even 1% of this months CS sales go to Japan and do a sale or something, or create a new CS item/unretired the Oriental trunk or something I don't know. It's nice that they're addressing the issue but I don't understand the singing praises when all they've really done is tell us about something we already know with an item that doesn't help. I sound harsh and I really don't mean to, I'm just always disappointed Subeta doesn't do more when it could really help.
0

tamuril_449

My prayers go out to those affected by this tragedy! And you can bet I'll be donating to the Red Cross, for sure!
0

Gabby

This whole thing is beautiful :) This is why Subeta is so amazing.
0

I'm very glad Japan was as prepared as it was for this event, but even so, it's been devastating ... I can't even imagine an 8.9 earthquake. I've donated through my school, and I hope relief efforts are able to save lots more people! ♥️
0

Anica-Starbell

Like so many others here, I will say that this is the reason I love Subeta. You're so compassionate, and have respect for real world events. I already donated via text with the permission of my mother, and my only regret is that we cannot give up more to help those who are in need during this time of great loss.

Thoughts and prayers with Japan and all the people around the world affected by this disaster.

Already knew about the text donating-and donated!-from Twitter but great idea to make a newspost about it! The more people who know about the option, the better. Just looked at some before and after satellite photos. *shudder* Can't imagine what it'd be like in the middle of that, or trying to recover from it.

Pray for Japan. Keith, this is such a nice message you are spreading throughout Subeta. May the Japanese people find peace through this terrible disaster.

this is why i love subeta, the compassion on this site c: touching idea the item description is beautiful, i never knew that about the cranes. my thoughts go out to Japan, those affected currently there, families and friends. I have such a love for Japan and how much the culture and people have inspired me. I was in tears watching it on the television ;-;
0

thank god for subeta. i'm so glad we can come together as a community over things like this instead of living in "ignorant bliss." unlike some other sites where you're not even -allowed- to talk about the real world...

I think its fantastic that Subeta is bringing this awareness to everyone who plays on this site,
not like all of us dont already know the tragic things occuring in Japan.

Thankfully my family there is safe, close to the epicenter of the quake but
sheilded by the mountain from the tsunami thank God!
i havent been able to contact a friend not knowing her number.

A man who owns a Dojo near my uncles shop
is in sheer dispaire and loss,
his house in Japan is totally distroyed and his
wife and child are missing.

Everything that is happening right now is totally crazy!
The nuclear reactors, earthquake, tsunami.
Im trying to donate some money and wish i could be there
so that i could lend a helping hand!
im sure everyone is afraid, lost, and confused.

the death toll is getting higher and its so heart renching that it tugs on every one of my heart strings!
I hope everyone learns that none of us are promised tomorrow,
we have to love, let go, and live our lives to the fullest!!

My prayers go out to Japan!
To all of the people!
To everyone who is helping!
and to everyone who has donated or helped from afar in some way!

all we can do is hope and pray!
0

Thank you! It is wonderful how the Subeta Team memorializes the people who have unfortunately lost their lives in this disaster as well as showing how much the world cares about Japan and her people. My prayers are with all in Japan.

I love this more than I can express. First and foremost, for the sentiment behind it: this has been such a horrible tragedy that has truly left the whole world shaken. Secondly, this free gift is beautiful - and, thirdly, it fits in exactly with my pet Oridzuru. Origami cranes have special meaning to me. :)
Thank you very much for this.

0

Solarstar17

Aw, man. I hope the death toll isn't as high as I dread 8( It's sad enough that an online friend lost some of his own RL friends to the Earthquake over there 8C

I've heard that a FOURTH nuclear reactor has caught on fire on the news earlier, leading to even more radiation. Scientists are still studying the after effects from the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic-bomb drops of World War II (even though it's irritating to hear that they're being treated as guinea pigs while the scientists are at it).

I heard rumor that a volcano has also erupted as another result of this earthquake. It pains me to having to hear and read about all these happenings and how the death count is climbing higher. This is making me fear the truth of 2012 O.O

My heart goes to all those who have suffered, indirectly or actual survivors or those in pain from radiation. I hope that many survive and something is created/formed as a sort of memorial to those lost to these disasters in Japan.

And thank you Subeta for helping raising awareness of this. I'll donate right away. Oh, and thank you for the cute little paper crane gift, very beautiful, I might add.

And thank you to those who donated. I'm sure that all those contributions will equal more help and resources sent to the survivors. My heart goes out to all of you.
