The forums got a cleanup, and the Feedback forum is back!!
The forums were running on a pile of technology that had grown together over more than a decade. Three whole UI libraries loaded on every forum page: a very old version of "Semantic UI", a 2017 beta of Bootstrap 4, and Handlebars for a groups page the new Groups replaced. Three icon sets were in use at once, often on the same page, and also sometimes just emoji. Under all that was a stylesheet that had grown to 1,800 lines, THREE (!!!) thread readers that never went anywhere and couldn't be turned on anymore, a results page for a search engine we stopped running 4 years ago, and a few test pages.

That's all gone from the forums. Last week I moved the site's own icons onto one set, and this week I rebuilt every forum page on Subeta's own styles, so the forums use the same cards, buttons and colors as the rest of the site, in every theme and in dark content mode. A post is a card with the colored bar on top (purple is an official post, red is a highlighted one), your avatar still has its column, and every action on a post is a real icon with a label. Topic lists show small flags for locked, sticky, answered, you've posted here, and unread. The reply box keeps its options beside the editor, moving a topic opens a dialog, the search box on the forum index is a search box, and everything sits a little in from the edge now. Phones keep the compact layout.
If you style the forums with custom CSS: anything that targeted the old `.ui` classes (`.ui.segment`, `.ui.label`, `.ui.grid`, `.ui.message` and friends) no longer matches anything on forum pages. The hooks that are still there are `.post-container`, `.post-bar`, `.post`, `.post-body`, `.user.details`, `.forum-avatar`, `.forum_signature`, `.stats` and `.breadcrumb`. The topic list is `.topic-list` and the nav is `.forum-nav`.

The Feedback forum is back 🫣. It closed in May because the forums had slowed down and I wanted to combine as much as possible, so Suggestions & Ideas carried everything at once: real suggestions, staff threads asking what you think, and reactions to things that had just changed. Feedback is its own forum again. I read every one. It doesn't always get a reply, and a note is not a vote. All of my feedback threads are going there now, too!

The three boards share a page now: User-powered. It shows what's being built right now, what got built from a suggestion, what got fixed from a bug report, what staff are asking for feedback on, and what changed because of a note, each with the name of the player who posted it.
I am (and the staff are) really working hard to make sure that threads get categorized correctly and moved around. I can't get to everything!
So: make the suggestion. Report the bug, papercuts included. Post the feedback. Be nice to each other, make a friend on the new Friends page, and stick a sticker on someone.
And remember, when you see that huge number of bugs fixed and suggestions implemented that you can get a subscription to make sure we can keep doing it 💖

appreciate all you do to streamline and bolster this wondrous site, & taking the time to keep us in the loop ☺

Keith, you are absolutely amazing! The amount of recoding you are getting done is insane, especially since you're the primary person having to sift through over two decades worth of code so things can run smoother and more in line to what you wanted it to be. Your passion, and ours, is what makes Subeta great.

@Aline People are really passionate about Subeta, and I love that. One way it used to show up: someone makes a feedback thread, and by page three the thread is about me not having posted in it, instead of the thing they wrote about.
A lot of the time I don’t have a strong opinion, or my opinion is different from everyone in the thread. Me posting that doesn’t help much, because I’m still the person who has to decide whether to build it, and sometimes the answer is no.
So it turned into “staff isn’t communicating,” when really it was threads people decided needed a response from me, even when there was nothing to say beyond “I see this.” I don’t have the hours to reply and go back and forth on every thread. So I’m making that the expectation up front and 🤞 it works!

Wait, people are complaining about having their suggestions/feedback ignored!? I'm surprised at this because I generally let it be, as sometimes my ideas may be just plain dull, or may cause game balancing issues in the long run, or sometimes it's an issue that may take too long to be fixed, so, it might be moved far to the back of the queue while easier issues would be solved first... Here's to hope they eventually understand it's not Staff's fault or even their own, oftentimes it's just how circumstances present themselves. (For example, it's at the very least a tad less complicated to fix an UI bug in inventory page than, let's say, make Thimblerig playable in mobile...)

@Balloon That’s me being too cute with the words, sorry. A note is just a thread in the Feedback forum. You post it, everyone can read it, you and staff can reply to it. It’s called a note because it’s typically more written to staff than a regular forum post.
“A note is not a vote” means what the forum says: posting a thread isn’t a promise anything will change. There’s no vote happening somewhere else that you’re missing. I read every thread in there. Some won’t get a reply from me, and that isn’t the same as being ignored. What I’m trying to head off is the thread where I haven’t replied by page 2 and it turns into three more pages of “nobody is listening.” I want the feedback, I just can’t answer all of it and also build things. Mostly I’m trying to keep my own sanity while bringing the forum back.
Papercut is a common phrase for a small annoying thing. Here it’s a bug that doesn’t break anything, it just bugs you every time you hit it, the kind that doesn’t feel big enough for its own thread. Make the thread anyway.

Perhaps the sCode reference page could get a refresh to match? The emoji it links to aren't working for me anymore.

NIce changes! But it looks like it broke the hearts/like buttons on my pet profiles D: I have almost 100 that are just gone or don't click, including ones in the spotlight queue. Can an automated fix for this be made for everyone or do we have to make up a fix and change every profile? Please say it can be automated lol >.<

If we have a suggestion for the forums where do we put it? Is there already a topic going? If so I couldnt find it, I'm sorry!

Sweet! These are some really awesome improvements!! Also thanks for the heads up on the customCSS changes!!

I thought we had had a feedback forum and never knew, where to post my ranting now. And I always had a bad conscience writing somewhere else.
Thanks for putting it back up!
Thanks for putting it back up!

I'm confused by some of the wording in this post, and I want to be sure I understand ^^; Not sure if they're actual terms for website stuff or just odd synonyms.
- Does "note" ("a note is not a vote" and "what got changed because of a note") mean the same thing as a thread/post? Or are notes something different?
- Does "a note is not a vote" means what it says on the forum - "a thread here is not a promise that something will change"? Or is "vote" referring to actually voting on something that we should be doing somewhere else?
- For "Report the bug, papercuts included," what does "papercut" mean?

Thank you for all the updates!
Unfortunately this update broke my forum signature. :(

That change broke the custom like hearts on my pet pages. I guess the icon was something that was eliminated? Hopefully there's an easy way to continue making those, but I don't see it right away. I should probably be asleep!

I saw the new look for the forums a bit ago and i really liked it! i'm also glad there will be more of a proper feedback forum again!
omg keith you have been killing it with these updates, thank you!
also, i (surprisingly) don't use much customCSS around the site but i appreciate that you posted info on the change and what's still there to help people fix their custom css. c:

Ok yay at first i was scared to click onto the forums in case they looked different but they're still the same yay thank you

The new Friends page looks amazing! Indeed thx for so many awesome updates and the detailed explanations! I might not understand all of it but it is fascinating to read and I'm sure very helpful for the people who write the in depth guides with all the coding and such! <3

Hey so I don't think I got a new monthly subscription currency since last month. I got my monthly sub but my point is still stuck at 1 since last month so that might be an issue haha

TLDR: Removed a looooooooooooooot of code from the forums, they should be much faster and all in one style. they shouldn't look _too_ different
