@Ratsy
I think that's the general consensus yes,it means the revamp still needs work...for example the claws could be longer the spikes could be more jagged the horns on the skull could be sharper. lets not forget it's suppose to be a fearsome looking pet, that being said i do like the more polished look of the new one, what we need is a balance between glam and gore

I like the new one much better, mainly because of the new eyes. Yes, it looks a little robotic, but I never liked the eyes of the old one, they were too chibi for me.
I also appreciate that the new one doesn't look so chubby and I love those new hooves! They make it appear more agile and menacing. And the tails now look much bettter for me now that they are not that thin any more. Really nicely done!

I basically dislike everything about the new one. :/
I dont like the eyes, the whole left side of the face looks a bit off, the muzzle looks weird as well as the front paws, I like the closer cloven hooves in the old one, where there isnt as big of a gap in between the two parts. I prefer the whiskers and the eye scar and I really dislike the smaller head spikes. I also dislike the thicker tails and the smile.... I would miss the darker splotches on the old one and the brain poking out is shaped weird on the new one.

First of all, I'd like to say thank you to Subeta for spending time on revamps, and of course, asking our opinion. :)
Now, I actually voted for the old version and my reason for that is only things that has already been stated, like the muzzle, eyes and so. The -quality- of the art is much better than the old version, but I know that you'll take the users opinion into consideration and from there create something amazing!
...and please, include the whiskers! ;D

I prefer the old one. It has a lot more personality, the new one just seems pretty generic and not very appealing.
I voted for the old one. I have just a few problems with the newer version that make it less appealing to me.
First off, I would love to keep the whiskers and eye scar. It made the pet more individualistic as opposed to generic, as some have pointed out. I would appreciate if the flame-like patterns on its legs were darker, and if the irises (not the pupil) were just a bit larger. I'm not a fan of the sheen over the eye, as it appears more plastic than realistic. Larger, more intimidating face spikes (on the side of the face/jawline) would be much more appropriate for a pet that was given a somewhat intimidating character, if that makes sense. Also, the spikes on the back of the creature, I feel, would be more appealing if they were pointed back towards the tails, much like the older version's. The head looks attached to the chest with no neck, which isn't very appealing. Also! The hair tuft looks a bit too poofy to be natural. The chest plate seems a bit off in that I don't think the sections are angled quite properly-- the way it is now makes it look as if the creature is twisted unrealistically. Also, the leg closest to us looks a bit warped in that it is bent in a way that most animal legs should not bend; I think the reasoning for this is the shading and the curvature near the bottom of the chest plate. The biggest problem I have with the newer version is that it looks too cutesy. Mind you, I'm not a fan of cutesy pets, really, so I may be a bit biased: but am I wrong when I say that the darkonite isn't necessarily supposed to make you feel warm and fuzzy inside? I thought they were of the darker spectrum of ... well, the cutesy scale. The smile just ruins the entire new version for me, because I can't help but feel that the artist was trying to appeal to a younger crowd. I mean the artist no harm and I hope that what I've had to say will be useful. c:

The face and pretty much everything about the old one is nothing short of unappealing and ugly :S The new one just kicks some serious ass. The look is fresh and clean and perfect. The old one looks juvenile and sloppily done XS
Hmm, I agree with some of the others on this board. I think the pupils need to be a bit bigger, the whiskers should have stayed, and the tone of the fire on the fur needs to be darker. Also, I like the narrower horns and larger spikes on the side of his face as well. The update is nice, but needs some work before you should change it.

The new one doesn't stay true to a Darkonite. No whiskers, the crack in its skull is odd looking, the shading makes it appear shiny and "robotic", and I am not a fan.
The flames on its fur I think should be darker, the eyes darker with a bigger pupil... And I also second that getting rid of the bent whiskers and the eye scar makes this pet lose a lot of its individuality. It IS very generic looking.
I think to sum up what I would like to see on a newer version of this pet is contrast and individuality.

I like that it got an update, but only a few of the actual changes are for the better. I voted for the old version.
I'm sorry but I really don't like the new one. :/ The proportions looks a bit off, and it does not look like a darkonite to me. I mean, look at its chest. The old one is like, empty, idk, it has whiskers, it looks grumpy, etc. Not like the new one. The art is nice, but I just think this darkonite does not needs it.
@Briar "better anatomy" is subject to opinion, did you ever see the very first darkonites? Their limbs were very twisted and deformed - the current version was based off that. The new one has very generic anatomy and a very generic overall look. There is nothing "wrong" with people for wanting something different to that.
I really like the body of the new one... but I LOVE the eyes on the old design... if there were a way to incorporate that into the new design that would be perfect, although both are quite well done and far past my artistic ability :)
I voted for the old one.
What i like about the old version are the feet and face. If you could incorporate the old eyes and feet into the new one i'd be all for it. I like the new versions tail, back feet and overall body type. I do not like the face on the new one and the front feet look strange, they need to be larger and darker. Besides that i think the new one isnt bad but it needs some tweaking.

..........why are people complaining about the new one? the old one was outdated and needed a new art style, granted the smile is out of place but thats easily fixable.
geeze people what is wrong with you and a new better art style/anatomy???????
geeze people what is wrong with you and a new better art style/anatomy???????

I feel like the hooves on the new one are too "split". Also, I liked the sharper tips on the end of the older Darkonite's tail and the thinner ear's of the older one as well.
Why does the darkonite even need a revamp? All it needs it a bit of a shading update.
There is nothing much I like about the new version except the rear half and back legs. The head on the new one doesn't look like a darkonite to me, the smile doesn't suit the species, it lacks whiskers, the nose points downwards, the pupils need to be bigger as do the facial spikes, the hair looks odd poofing out of the helmet (it needs to be flatter or something) and the head looks overall too small compared to some of the other darkonite colours. There is something really 'off' about the front legs too but I'm not sure if I can explain it properly...the indent on the front of the leg joints sort of makes them look...broken? As if they'd bend in an unnatural way?
I agree with other people that the flames/markings need to be darker too. Are the gold bits of armor meant to be made of bone/claw? I'd always thought they were metal like the helmet but they look a bit like toenails now because of the shading.

I agree that the flames should be darker, the smile turned upside down, and the irises made bigger to keep that evil glow. It's also missing the scar over its eye and the scraggly whiskers. I also think the spikes on the side of its head are too small and positioned in such a way that they don't look like strange extended growths on the jawbone(which I think they should). I do like the back end though. Yeah...

I honestly think this is the first poll where I've voted for the old instead of the new. The Darkonite is not a smiley species. Honestly I love the old one the way it is.
It's wonderful... Except for the smile. I think if you just got rid of that and gave it a frown, maybe even a "poker face" it could satisfy the people who say it doesn't show as much as the old one does. The nose does seem a bit low when I first saw it, but it looks fine. Raising it just a wee bit could make a whole difference (for the better).

The new one is good, don't get me wrong. But I feel it doesn't capture what the old essence of the darkonite was. I always imagined a darkonite to be like a really mean and grumpy cat (with its brains sticking out, of course). I think the revamp looks a little less intimidating. The art is great, but if we could make it a bit darker and sharper (like its barbed tail, for example) that it'll suit it better. :)
Somehow, I really don't think that this one needs it. There is so much charm in the darkonite I just can't imagine recapturing it. It is a high order.
But, well, darkonites are my favorite, so I'm super-duper biased, haha!
I can't really add to what anyone else has already said, but I agree with most all of it. Especially the popular opinion about that smile! Gotta go!

Meh.. it's growing on me slightly, though I miss the irritable/meanish personality of the old one, but the muzzle still looks messed up, I think it's the line between it and the skull/helm that's making it look bulbous.. Or maybe it's that the nose itself is too low.. Makes it too cartoony.. like Looney tune or Sonic the Hedgehog character.
-cough- Still wish the whiskers would come back though.

I feel like this is another revamp in which the old version has more personality. I mean, I love the new art. Don't get me wrong. But I feel like it's lacking the personality of the old one, much like with the Fester.
the colouring is an improvement and it's good, i just like the whole head better in the old one. the new forelegs are bothering me and the spikes look kind of stiff and glued on, too. i've always liked darkonites so i'd rather the old one than the simply updated rendering of the new one.
Eh...I'd like to see more brain matter, and no smile.
It's snout is pointing down and too rounded. Looks goofy. :P
Buying whiskers.

The update is better drawn, but the eyes bug me and something in that face is FAR too canine-looking.
Do not know which is new or old one but like the one with the big red eyes looks more real.
I definitely prefer the updated style, but a few details about it bug me - the eyes... more specifically, the iris, is too small. I have to get close to my monitor and squint to see it. =/ Also, the nose... seems too small, and maybe too round.
Aside from that, it's definitely a move forward!

I voted for the new one simply because I like the fact it's a little more realistic in the anatomy so far as the front paws and back hooves are concerned. But the muzzle is angled funny, and looks bulby over the.. helmet..? Whatever that is on the head. XD; I'm disliking the bubblyness of them muzzle very much so; though it doesn't matter all that much since I've never been fond of the species on a whole and will never own one anyway. :P

@Glacier
You really just hit it on the head as to why I'm not fond of Darkonites. There's just something so.. Retro? Seeming about them that I don't really enjoy any more.
As far as the revamp goes, I really prefer it. @hagane already mentioned that she FORGOT the whiskers and they'll be in the revamp, no big deal. I do see the issue with the front leg most outward, it kind of seems a little bowed. But that's really it. Vast, vast, improvement.

Oh I really hope the new one passes, this is a much needed update. And I love how the main design hasn't changed, just updated.

I like the old Darkonite look, but... It suits the Subeta of a few years ago more than it does today. You know, a touch simpler, monochromatic, and firmly in that specifically cartoon feel. It wasn't bad then, and it isn't bad now, it just doesn't feel as much to me like it suits current pets, like the Jollin or the revamped Serpenth.
I really wouldn't mind an artist take the idea and basic body structure of the Darkonite and running with it, rather than just redraw. Even if its some detail on those houndoom-like rib things or a completely different set of fur markings, or changing the meeting of the flesh of the head and the exposed skull.
The darkonite has quite a distinct attitude , and as long as that is conveyed in a new design, I'm all for it.
Though... That would involve redraws of the new colors like Glacier and stuff...
But the Glacier pet is great; why not allude to that image for the revamp?

The old one is definitely still my vote. Even though the "new" one is more in the art realm that subeta is moving towards, it doesn't represent the actual pet at all. That and the proportions are strange.
The front end somehow becomes skinnier than the back end (the shoulders are smaller than the hips, which is bizarre), and the head seems a bit too small. It might just be it's stance. It kind of looks like the back legs are 'pushing out' like a dog in play might do if they're "bowing"?
The skull is shiny, and you can hardly tell that it's "brain material" underneath the somewhat overwhelming hair poof.
I liked the prominence of the bone pieces along the legs/chest before. Now that they're smaller, they seem less... awesome.
The paws are weird.
The face is just wrong (sorry! I love you!)
But one of the BIGGEST things I noticed? The 'flame' things on it's feet aren't as dark and that, for some strange reason, really bothers me.
On a HAPPIER note -
I seriously love the back hooves. Very well done on those. And the tail looks wonderful (x I also love how the chest plate doesn't stick out as awkwardly, and how it follows through beneath the Darkonite.
So far it seems it's fairly even, with a slight nudge towards "old". I think it's a good prototype but it definitely needs work (:

Oh Please no , I have 5 Darkonites so if my vote counts for anything as being a Darkonite lover I vote no.
I'm voting old.
It's not like I dislike the new revamp, it's just something seems "off" with the art. Skulls are not supposed to be glossy, and the eyes and smile are very weird.

It feels really awkward to me. For several reasons. :c
-The positioning/anatomy seems stiff, mostly b/c of the legs.
-The glossiness of the skull is completely...unnatural. The head looks too even and streamlined to me.
-The expression makes it look kinda happy and seeing how this is an evil, undead, demon pet it doesn't suit it at all. Although the new Darkonite has much better shading, it lacks PERSONALITY.
That's just what I personally think though.

The new one looks great except for the face. The eyes are too lifeless and the smile just makes it look smug, not that sort of evilly look the old one has. I'm voting old.
The shading and lineart is better on the new version.../except the legs/. I agree with everyone else who thinks the front legs are weirdly lumpy and bulky...they don't look right. Fix that, and I'll be on board.
