Noooo why is the old one winning T_T I love the new one. I love the more defined paws, legs, and face. I think they really bring it together.

I don't like the eyes or smile on the new one. Darkonites always seemed unemotional or grumpy to me, like montres. The rest of it is certainly great though...

The eyes on the new one remind me too much of sonic-style eyes, and I don't care for the lack of the whiskers. Other then that, the new design is great

Alrighty, let's see here, what do I like in comparison between the two..

• Luminous eyes of the old one.
• Whiskers of the old one.
• Expression of the old one.
• Bulk of the old one, I guess?
• Darker markings on the limbs of the old one.

• Tails + back hooves of the new one.
• Bone + spines + underbelly of the new one.

It's a nice revamp, but it does need a bit of work.

I love the new design, smug smirk and all. The pose is wonderfully well balanced, not aggressive but not altogether passive. I love the update on the toes and the horns too.
The joints connecting the forelegs to the body are a little awkward it's minor. Love it, love it~

I don't like the smile, the missing whiskers, or the back legs of the new one. I love my Darkonite the way he is :)

I think both styles are awesome. But I did vote for the older version because the Darkonite looks more mysterious. And I like how you can see the brain better on the older version. The new Darkonite also has a smile. Maybe it would look better without the smile (every subeta pet looks so happy).

I like the body of the new one better... but the head of the old one. I agree with those saying the new one looks very Sonic the Hedgehog.

I agree with everything Calyum said below, to be honest. But I'm still not certain which one to vote for...

I like the face of the old one better. The body of the new one is okay but the marking on the feet need to be darker like the original. I'm not a fan of the head of the new design; first thing I thought, like a few other people have pointed out, is that it looks very Sonic-like. I like the larger irises and the darker sclera, whiskers, and the lack of a smile on the old version. The smile on the new one seems too happy.
Maybe make the head a little bigger too? And perhaps also point the horns/ears upwards slightly instead of having them more curved.

And I notice some things have been removed from the old design that should not have been. It NEEDS the scraggly looking whiskers, and the stripe on its eye. And I also feel a few things should be darker (the black of the eyes and the leg markings)

Very nice art, as per usual. ;)

However, I prefer the old one for these reasons:

1) The proportions/anatomy look a little off in ways that I cannot articulate, but have been discussed already here.
2) Expression: the smile completely changes the "feel" of the Darkonite in a way I don't like.
3) Whiskers! Where did they go? Those kinky whiskers added character.
4) Eyes lack the vivid, standout quality of the old version.

Well.. I kind of had to vote for the old one.

What I do like:
-the tails
-hind legs and hooves

What I don't like:
(basically what has been said before)
-the smiley-smirk.. darkonites to me seem like evil/grumpy-sinister-fierce things.. and this makes it look cute and adorable to me
-the front legs seem too stiff and the joint part doesn't seem needed.. and it kind of looks like it's really skinny in the front and wider in the back due to them not being spaced apart some I guess
-whiskers.. not going into that, i just loved them on the old one
-the helmet seems too shiny to me too. it can have a bit of a shine to it.. but maybe duller?
-also the markings around the feet need to go back to being darker i think.. like they are in the old one
-the bone markings around the neck look a bit off to me for some reason.. i'm not sure why.. other than that.. that part is ok
-the muzzle seems a bit too rounded i guess..

i won't go into anything else because those are my main complaints.. sorry artist but i just.. want the sinister dark look back please

The smile doesn't fit the species and it needs the whiskers.

I actually don't have much to critique on this one; I think it's very nicely done and not in any real need for editing. Definitely refreshing to see the anatomy and colouring improved on this pet. The only thing I'd point out are the whiskers, which ought to stay especially seeing as there's no reason to remove them.

I like the lineart and smoother lines on the new one. As well the the chest plate looking like its part of the pet instead of hanging from the bones. But I'm not sure about the face. I dont like the smirk, or the lack of whiskers.

The front legs seem too chubby and the snout seems too round, kinda looks like a ball is stuck to it's face.

The face on the new one is incorrect, in my opinion, for a Darkonite. I definitely don't think it should be smiling, at least, and the eyes are too shiny for my taste. And the snout is rounded downward, whereas in the first one you can see it more upwards. As far as anatomy goes though I think it's an improvement.

Please please change the face. And I'll be delighted with it.

I like the body but the face is a little odd... I think it could use its whiskers back. I don't really like the smile, either... I also think it would look nicer if it was looking at us, instead of looking off to the side.

Too many things seem off about the anatomy of the new one. =/ It looks so weird, but I can't put my finger on it. Many others have brought up good points. The eyes and snout are just wrong. Needs a frown and it's whiskers back! The only thing I really like about the new one is the shading and lineart. =/

I prefer the old one by far. The new one looks way too happy to be a Darkonite, the front legs look a bit odd, and something about it just looks off.. I'm not sure how to describe it. It's like the individual parts might be more anatomically correct, but when it all comes together, something just doesn't quite work.

You won't believe how long it took me to notice that the eyelids were half-shut on this one. This really does need to be reworked before it can get accepted.

The eyes bug me on the new one. I liked the big vibrant iris' on the old version. Also, the legs, the stance looks strange, it's possibly the shading, but the right front leg doesn't look pushed back depth wise, or the leg pose is just strange. Something doesn't sit right there for me visually. Love the rump, love the tails, love the skull, but I'd like to see that little jut of fur and brain a little more visible.

Definitely prefer the old one. While the art itself (the shading, mostly) is nicer on the new one, something about its pose just looks weird. The hooves are cool, but otherwise... meh. I don't hate it, but the old one is better. The chubbier body and different proportions make it look a lot more "creepy cute" in the old design, which I definitely prefer.

Makin' me get all frowny.

The thing that sticks out to me the most is the smile. It just doesn't look mean enough. If it was more of a smirk it would be better, but I still prefer the sourpuss look of the original lol.

I like the body and ears on the new one, but the front legs loot a little wierd somehow..
And the whiskers are missing.
The smile/eyes looks too friendly.
The area around the noose looks a little round..

The face reminds me more of Sonic or Ratchet..

Dislike. I appreciate the effort by the artist and everyone involved, but it just looks like a "sonic oc" to me. You've got the "ear horns" that look like sonic's spikey hair, and then those eyes look so similar to his eyes. If it didn't have that ridiculous eye shine I might like it a tad better, but try making it look less like sonic and I'd be happier.

I'd rather stick with the old one if this is my only option. A happy sonic the hedgehog Darkonite? No thanks.

I like the leaner look of the new one as well as the redone split hoof. The points I'm agreeing with the majority of users voting for the old are - the smirk makes it lose the evil/cold look, the awesome crooked whiskers are missing and that bit of brain with hair looks chunky and odd to me. My own complaint is the now very faded lower leg makings, I like the old darker ones much better.

I agree with most everybody's suggestions... except I like the thicker ear-horn things.
But yeah. Too cutesy/stuffed. He needs to be grumpy.

I especially like Dio's edit of the picture.

I'm really not loving this revamp and here's why:

• Eyes are too shiny.

There's too much "dew". I have to strain to make out the color of its eyes and I got to admit, that's a surprising choice (to me) because the eye color was what used to be the most noticeable about it. I see no reason for that to change and I don't see much of a reason to add "dimension" and make their black eyes, grey. It's not necessary. Just add a bit of sheen where needed but don't make their soul piercing eyes, duller. :(

• Back legs spread too far apart.

It looks like he's getting ready to take a poop... XD I think the left (BG) leg needs to come in a bit more or better yet, the front legs need to be spread out into a slightly more dynamic pose to make up for the hind quarters.

• Front legs too straight/rigid and kind of broken looking.

I don't see that bend in the elbow when a dog or cat stands up so I don't think I should be seeing it here. Kudos on remembering where the joints are but Darkonites have fur that should cover that up that "knee bend."

• Muzzle is far too rounded.

It needs to be more triangular or squarer, more cat like and that smile needs to go. The Darkonite is a Gloomy-Guss by nature and honestly, being a product of Darkside/the zapper, there's no reason for it to be happy.

• Face/body spikes look... neutered...

This is a problem I've had before with previous revamps of spiky creatures. Their claws, teeth, bad-assery and/or spikes get smaller, less pronounced and filed to "safety-scissor" standards. This creature had hooked butt-spikes that looked like they could pierce skin. Why change that?

• Face spikes look... odd.

Why are they on the back of the head? I liked it more when they came out the side of the face and went back.

• Whiskers? Scars?

Where have they gone? D:

• Shading/coloring is good but...

I find the foot markings are too faded, to the point where they might as well not even be there for I can barely see them and some of the lighting is a little confusing/sloppy in some areas. Take the hind end. There's a streak of "satin-sheen" going across it's hind quarters and coming back up along the back shadow. I don't know, it looks weird too me. I never pegged the darkonite to have a satin-like coat and it doesn't do anything for the general anatomy of the creature.

What I DO like about this revamp:

• The general pose/coloring.

It's nice, on the right track and thank you for keeping it red but those anatomy issues need to be addressed. Please.

• The tails.

Gorgeous, don't touch those.

• The hooves.

A bit too far apart in the middle but I like 'em.

• The boney bits.

You stayed with the general design, didn't change too much and actually improved it in some areas. Horns look a bit too big but it doesn't bother me enough to make it a complaint so, good job. I like that part.

so I uh attempted a redraw.
I am not a quad artist but going off from the revamp, I tried to pinpoint some problems? I don't mean to offend or anything, but I can't engrish for crap so I thought a visual would be nice.

1. There are huge lumps on the legs? there seems to be a huge bulge at the joints. and it looks like it's strenuously leaning forward?
2. There should be like a drop off at the chest area and then a curve, not just a huge curve for the chest if that makes any sense.
3. I'd love to see more texture and volume to the skullcap thing. The current one looks very flat, plastic, and appears to be a plain circle with features pasted on. so maybe add some ridges and extra texture (especially between the eyes! think... sonic the hedgehog)? and get rid of the shiny and go for more... decomposing.
4. The lip line. I have a huge pet peeve with missing lines in the middle and it makes it look unprofessional and anime-like. also keep in mind that the snout is not completely round; give it a bit of a rectangular shape. The smile seems to be irking a lot of people and I also agree that it takes away from its original attitude. And the whiskers would be great too.
5. I'm also not sure what's going on with the back legs because its hindquarters seem to be really elevated and so that makes it seem like its back legs are significantly longer than the front legs? Also can we get black markings on the legs? Just for my personal preference, I find them to be very faded as of now and I think they look better as a deeper maroon.
6. Thin horns please. and try to give it a rounder look. They are beginning to look like paper ice cream cones.

Alright I'm done. Sorry for the rushed explanation. I'm no good with quad anatomy either, but I figure I'd stick my two cents in. P:

I have to say I like the old one much more. I don't like the face of the new one much at all. I'd be pretty disappointed if this were changed, and I'd probably use an overlay of the old image if I ever got a Darkonite. :/

I prefer the new one, the old one is well.....boring.....however honestly I think perhaps a total revamp and not a slight one would have been better??? They could look sooooo good

I don't like the possible revamp at all.. :( The back hooves look pretty good, but I find it to be sort of cartoonish looking and very un-proportional. I think the face should look more cat-like in my own opinion.

Now honestly, I would like to see a mix between the two.

While the new one is much, much better, (More cat-like)
I would like to see the whiskers back, and the markings a little more pronounced.
I would also like to see this in a pouncing position and maybe glaring. I love the current eyes, and think if claws stuck out from the pose you chose for this to be in, it'd be wonderful.
Reasons for not liking the old one is because it was too goat-like for me. I'm not a huge fan of goats and I love cats a lot. It seemed to have the look and body-frame of a goat, rather than it's front half. It was far to stubby also, and it's angle and oldness of the pose was difficult for me to figure out how it's body went to draw it in different poses.
And I also wasn't too much of a fan of how it's paws went.

And as my only down-side for the Darkonite in general, the hooves in the back. They really threw my off as far as liking it when I first saw it. (I'm like, the only person that thinks this. x3) But when I saw the rest of the body it looked perfect for a wicked looking cat-style of art. I honestly would have loved to see this with out the hooves, and with the back-legs like the feline. I'm also biased, so that's about it.

I hope this helps compared to my last comment here, which just said I wanted one. lol.

As a Darkonite fan, old one.
I hate the face on the new one. It looks way too smooshed. Maybe if you stretched it out a bit to look like the old one, I'd like it more. Also, why is it smiling? Darkonites shouldn't smile. They are supposed to be evil after all. :/

This is the one time where I love the older version more than the proposed new one.

The face on the new one is just... really, really wonky-looking.

I love the back half of the new one... but the face and front paws just seem off to me.

As a huge darkonite fan, Definitely the old one. The thing that is bothering me the most about the revamp is it's almost verticle dimple smile, along with the rest of it's nose. also the front legs are a bit pudgey, like two sausages stacked on top of each other. Having said that though, I like the back legs and the new tails.

Don't really like the front legs, the bigger ears (should be sharper, narrower, closer to the old), the horns on the side of the face need to be just a bit more prominent (not like the old one, but just a little bigger).
Really hate the new expression and the tiny red portion of the eye. I want my Darkonite to look evil, disgruntled, sneering or however you want to call it and the new one definitely does not - and I think the 'cute' expression would come out looking even less evil on my Golden Darkonite. I'm also missing the whiskers.
