The nose on the new one is too low (I think that accounts partly for the "stuffed" look).
I think if there were more angles and jagged edges in the new one, it would compare a little better. Darkonite is a sharp name for a sharp pet~

I like the hindquarters, they're more well shaped and the split hoof looks much better, while the twin tails are much cleaner and nicer looking. I also like the slightly bigger look of the helmeted ears.
I really dislike the smirk on the new one. The old expression was more cold and distant to my eyes, as though it's considering exactly how it's going to take you apart the moment you turn your back on it. The new one looks like it's going to post a snarky comment on your new facebook picture. The nearest foreleg also looks a little awkwardly placed, too far forward on the chest. It should be edged back a smidge, and perhaps even bulked out a bit. I tend to like the heavier pawpad look, as though the paw was modeled after a snow leopard rather than a siamese cat. Whiskers I can take or leave, but more vibrant eye color will really add a lot to the overall look and expression. Keep up the good work, artist and don't get depressed over some of the comments, definitely looking forward to seeing what you do with the critiques!

I like the old.(not just for smile) The old Darkonnite is the 'grumpy' evil pet. The smile takes away from it but for me was the feet looked weird
The hair blob on the new one is way to chunky and awkward. I feel like the old was a slicker design, this one just seems overstuffed like a pillow or something. The expression on the old was better and the angle was a lot more concise. I like the original much better, unfortunately. It's stockier and more rugged than the new.
Also, the ears/horns seem odd when they're wider. It was slicker when they were sharp.

I can't tell why the new one bugs me so much, but does bother me a lot :/ Two things I do know: I don't care for the smile and the fact that I can actually tell the back feet are hooves xD but I don't own any darkonites, so I'm not going to complain to much, if darkonite owners like them, then let them have it xD

I love the new shading, and the lines definitely look smoother...but for the first time ever, I'm gonna have to vote for the old one; pretty much for the reasons everyone else already pointed out. The 'evil' aura of the Darkonite was completely lost in the revamp; it just looks like a cocky teenager now, and though I usually like that sort of personality, it just doesn't fit for the species. I preferred the angle of the old Darkonite's head, and the larger eyes. It just had more personality; it looked like it was eying up a potential victim, rather then just looking cocky. Somehow the revamp just looks a lot more 'static' then the older version; the legs aren't spread and braced anymore(which created an almost 'preparing to pounce' sort of appearance), so it's now pretty much just a boring old pose. And the whiskers. Definitely the whiskers. Maybe if the pose was just shifted slightly closer to the older one, and the smile was removed, and the whiskers put back, it'd look a lot more interesting.

The new one looks great, but I honestly prefer the old one much more. It looks so much more grumpy, and I like the whiskers. The chest and the nose on the new one look a little bit unusual to me. A bit too rounded.
Hm, honestly, probably not the biggest fan of this one. I have a feeling there might be something wrong with the chest (the middle of the spike...collar isn't in the same place as the breastplate's middle) and the head though it might just be that I preferred the previous angle. In general its front legs seem to me a little too small and chubby and the head a bit squashed, possibly.

I am really not a fan of the new one... I don't hate it, but I think it's not something I could ever fall in love with. Most of what bugs be is the front half.
I'm not exactly sure what needs to be done to fix it, but the front legs look... weird to me. I think the front of the "elbows" on the front legs are too defined, and the feet either need to be closer together or farther apart. Placing the feet more forward of the body might be a good idea too, right now it looks off-balanced.
For the face, I agree with some of the other posters that the smile/smirk should be replaced with a more neutral expression. The eyes don't pop for me, I like the shape, but the irises could stand to be either a bit bigger or a bit brighter. I like the narrow, splayed ears of the old version better.
I also like the darker feet of the old one, but if the face/legs were adjusted I'd be satisfied haha

The Darkonite is my favorite of all the Subeta species.I prefer the old one.
The new one while good is missing the full body and stockyness of the old which I grew to love.
The leg markings could be more pronounced and leave the chest plate looking like a cheat plate.
Please lose the smile, and give the Darkonite their frown back please and they need the mark on the left eye back.

I'm a big fan of the darkonites and I do like the revamp except for a few small things.
I'm so excited to see these little guys get a revamp. They look great so far. :D
- The nose looks very rounded and slope-y. It's like a little sphere with a nose drawn on. I think it would look a lot better if it were just a bit more angular, and flatter on top.
- The ears seem a bit too thick, even in comparison with the other new darkonites.
- The stomach looked very machine-like on the old one. This one looks a little too flat and too 'organic' and not metallic enough.
- The neck looks too short.

I know everyone brings up the expression, but I still say that the head doesn't look aligned with the body right and since it's more realistic, it should have like, some form of neck.
Yes. Whiskers.
More menacing.
Darker shading.
Intense eyes.

It's the front legs that bother me most. They look too cutesy and don't even both bend at the same angle. The farther leg shouldn't end at the same point as the closer one either (compare to how back legs line up with relation to each other). Other thing that bothers me is how small the iris and pupil appear in relation to the eye size because of the iris randomly turning the same shade of grey used for the sclera. Then the super bright glare on the eyes makes the iris even more impossible to see. But, he really should also be looking up at the viewer for that smile to mean anything more than, "herp derp, I'm smiling at the ground".
Another thing that's mostly preferential to me but not so much helpful criticism is the fact they have those leg markings faded - and completely removed from the belly. I thought it was supposed to imply severe grubbiness of the fur - not just racing flame markings. :| And I always thought the grey plates were JUST on the chest. Like a breast plate. Held on with the bony protuberances. They gave them a bath and it turns out those were just generic weird scaley belly all along? Meh.

This news post itself even specifically said they're looking for "constructive feedback"...
I prefer the new one's more professional art overall, but I'd change a few things.
Change the expression to be unfriendly. Make the eyes bright and menacing, for right now they're dull. Add the crinkled whiskers back.

This is the first time I like the old version better than the new. The new Darkonite seems to have lost most of the personality the old one had. It has something to do with the face/expression of the new one. The pupils almost blend in with the rest of the eyes. I don't know if they would need to be bigger or just a brighter red or some other minor change. In the old version they are the point where you look at first; The big/bright pupils combined with the angle of the head in the old version makes you stare right in the eyes of the Darkonite. The new one seems to be missing a point (e. g. the eyes) that catches the eye of the viewer. Also something about the smile doesn't seem right to me, but that impression might partially be because of the eyes. And the whiskers are definately missing in the new version.
Other than that the new version is nice. The shading and art of the new one is greatly improved and I'm sure it will look great with some minor changes. I still voted for the old one though for the above reasons.

Put the whiskers back, give the new one the old nose/mouth with -no- smile and make the eyes similar to the old ones. Make the markings/smoke? stuff on the legs darker and more prominent again. And the new ears are too big, make them smaller/skinnier. And make the head a little bigger with the same tilt angle as the old head. Should there be hooves under the front paws? I never got how that worked but I know I sort of like how the old legs look, although the new legs look more "correct." Other than that, I absolutely love the body and the new tails.
I prefer the old one. The new one looks odd and is much too happy. It doesn't look cynical or evil or any other synonym. Just happy.
I do like the new design, but - like pretty much everyone already pointed out - the smile is way too friendly. The older version had a much better look on its face.
Also seconding the comments about the whiskers, it just feels like something is missing if you leave them out :/

Normally I embrace change but I do not like this in the least. I appreciate the work of the artist but I feel this new form drains every little ounce of personality from the Darkonite. The art itself feels softer than the original and makes it look to... squishy, cartoon-y, cute-sy and to me that is not the Darkonite AT ALL. They are supposed to be DARK not derpy.
Also what happened to the amazing whiskers? Thats one of my favorite features of the Darkonite!

I like the body and tails of the new one, but I think the older one had a better face, the stance didn't seem as awkward, and I really like the 'bloodstains' on his feet.

Vote for the old one, I don't like that smile and the "cute" look of it overall.
Also the front legs look a bit weird to me.

the new one does look a little more cute, I think that if the eyes were more piercing then it would be much better.

It's a very detailed revamp, but I feel that it does not have the same attitude as the previous. Personally, I would stick with the old Darkonite and perhaps give it some more detailed shading instead of completely changing it.
I dislike the new face and the chubby cute look it has over-all. It needs a sharper, more aggressive look to keep the same spirit about it. Therefore my vote went to the old one.
The older one is darker, and edgier. I like the shadows and the defined markings. The eyes are just too grey.
The old one took on a cute, almost "chibi-like" appearance, whereas the new one just looks awkward. The head doesn't seem to be lined up right with the body and I think it should have more of a neck. Also, as a species, Darkonites seem to be very grumpy. It's the overall feel of them, so giving it a smile that doesn't match the grumpyness just ruins it. I also feel the ruined whiskers should be brought back, and, if you feel like giving the newer one a more "realistic" appearance (as, that is what it seems like you are trying) then make the front legs thinner, and the paws more realistic, and four-toed. Point the horns away from each other on the helment as if they were bull horns, and not ears. Give back the scar marking on the eye. You are updating the design, not remaking the species.

I like the body of the new one, but I really don't like the face and especially the eyes. It doesn't look like a darkonite anymore... it reminds me of a puppy...

in this image i fixed up a lot of what i feel like bugs me about this revamp. it's of course nowhere near perfect and kinda sloppily done, but to specify, i moved the nose up a bit, made the smile into a scowl, thinned the front legs and spread them to match the way the back legs seem to be spread, because while i notice the attempt at perspective here, the way the front legs are positioned don't seem to work fluidly with the back ones.

Overall the old style is better. The new one looks too "cutesy" for a darkonite. The legs look better in the new version, but the stance, eyes, and body style look much better in the old version. (:

What bothers me about the new one are the eyes... The black sclera of the old one now looks to be markings instead of being part of the eyes. Well, it was probably done on purpose, but I prefer the older.
The revamp lost a lot of the matted, sharp-faced attitude of the original. The darkonite's face looks a lot wimpier because the shape of the nose is too round - and it's smiling! I liked how in the original the ears are splayed in opposite directions.
-The eyes in the original have bigger, more visible irises that should be included in a revamp.
-Keep the whiskers of the original, I like them.
-I always thought the darkonite had hooves on all four legs and that would have been good to have in a revamp. Maybe make the front toes black?

In my very unprofessional opinion:
I think the art certainly looks much more polished, but certain parts of it look off. Personally, I don't care for the pose, it looks a bit to cutesy for me, kinda like how my puppy stands when he wants a treat. Maybe if it was reared up on it hind legs or in a more aggressive stance...
Some examples for poses:
About to pounce, Creeping, On hind legs, or Jumping.
And I think the only other thing I don't like would be the face. If you want to keep the sly grin I think the eyes need to get even thinner, OR I think I'd like his face to be a bit less mischievous and a lot more evil. Maybe barring his teeth or something?
But yeah, that's all I got :P
I love the new art but I think it need to be more fierce c:

old darkonite looks mischevious, the new darkonite looks older of age, but has a slightly more retarded face. why is it smiling? why is it happier and not DARKER?
front legs suck as well, old darko has some badass legs, new darko has badass hind legs (better than the old one), but the front legs lack spunk.
face doesnt look right, it's like he's got his head turned but not really. a lump on the left (his left, our right) of his face.
basically, the pose isn't right, the smile needs to go (come on, is this drawn to appease 12 year olds?), and the animal needs to look a bit more tough/dirty.

voting for the old. For sure.
The new coloring seems sort of strange. Less defined.
Bigger eyes, brighter pupils, more obvious dark paws and a scowl is needed.
REALLY needed. :/ Really, REALLY don't like the new one....and 'm usually pretty happy with revamps. I think you guys fell off the wagon with this one.
I love Darkonites and I really hope there can be a compromise between styles.

The new one is just so cutesy. Also, I kind of like the thicker, larger skull and brighter eyes of the old.

Hmm.. I really like it overall, but there's a number of little things that I would like to see changed, I think, to give it the same feel and charming characteristics that the original has. I haven't had any Darkonites in a while, but I've always been a big fan of them. :D
First off, the pros:
I like most of the stance, the feet and hooves, the repaired back leg and overall anatomy, and all of the shading. Hagane, I also love that you made the tails/bones/etc sharp this time! Thank you for that. c:

- The big things that I would like to see changed are skinnier "ears", because I think it's a great unique feature of the Darko.
- A broader head or the head tilted in a more similar fashion to the original. I know that the smaller head is more accurate, real-world anatomy wise, but I can't help but feel like its a little too round and small. I think tilting its head further would help that as well as elongating the neck and making it appear less stocky.
- A less defined muzzle. This too I think makes the head seem rounder than it should be and could probably be fixed mostly by getting rid of the smile, and erasing part of the line that starts the muzzle.
- And finally, I'd like to see his far front leg moved out just a little. I think the paws and legs are gorgeous otherwise and wouldn't want to see a thing changed, but the front paws being so much closer together than this back hooves just makes his balance seem a little awkward.

I much prefer the old one - it looks grumpy and just better overall. I can't place what it is thats bothering me really...
I dislike the shine on the black eyes, I always pictured it more as like, dark pits rather then black parts where eye whites are.
The horns are too fat :U And there definitley needs to be more brain showing D8 The big eye ridges and silly not-prominent nose were part of what I liked about it xD Also the angle of the other one was nice - :U So many common pets are just like, side shots now that its kinda boring o3o; Having that sliiiight angle was fun. D: And it looks like a tricycle or something? how it makes like that triangle of small front feet and huuuuuuuge back feet. Also the far tail tip has a weird like, round bump on it? I don't know what it is. ;3; I feel bad pointing out so many things I dislike but I've always loved darkonites so XD OH well, I know it will turn out nice in the end.

Support for the artist for giving this pet a much-needed art update. However, there are a few things that I prefer to the old one.
While the new art is a must-have, the fact that the whiskers are missing really throws me. Also, the old Darkonite (and the new ones that have been coming out) look a bit less-...cared for and loved than this one. The smile ruins the "Darkonite" feeling for me. They're supposed to be evil and kind of repulsive, so they should look a bit shabby, and the new art looks too well-fed and clean. The marking on the left eye is missing, and the spikes could do with being a bit bigger. Also, the positioning of the front feet looks awkward compared to the back feet, and the figure in general looks too soft and bubbly (which goes back to the whole "loved and cared for" thing). Also, the markings on the feet don't stand out enough -- they look very nice on the old one.
The helmet, however, looks amazing, as does the brain/hair area in there. I also love the eyes and the tails, which bothered me the most on the old Darko.
I voted for the new one for the sake of progress and the need for new art, but there is always room for improvement!

Oh god I'm sorry but no.The revamp just looks wrong.I'm sorry but if this was the final revamp I would be really disappointed.
The smile is disturbing I liked it better when it looked more unfriendly.
The muzzle is way too high up it needs too be lowered a bit.
Please put back the whiskers.
There's something about the legs that just seems off to me like they're too far apart from the front.
Please darken the dark red design on it's legs,it just looks weird seeing it washed out to the point were it looks like it's not even there anymore.
Long story short I would like the revamp a lot better if it looked closer to the old deign. This one just looks too friendly for me to the point were I'm just really uncomfortable with it and don't want to look at it.
