I voted for the old one. I don't like the rounded muzzle, the skinny legs or the eyes on the revamp.... I do think the feet of the old one need a bit of an update, but the revamped version, for me, is unnecessarily extensive.
I definitely think that the Darkonite shouldn't be smirking like that and the eyes should maintain the same bright red gaze. The hair protruding from the skull also looks a little too groomed. Maybe give it a more shaggy look. Other than that, I love it!
Needs the old eyes, whiskers and disinterested/frazzled look rather that that cocky little smirk.
The pupils kind of bother me; they kind of disappear into the rest of the eye. I'm also not a big fan of how round the top of the snout is.
Definitely not in favor of the smile. I prefer the neutral expression of the old darkonite and I feel it's really important that it keeps that suspicious look. I'd personally like it better if the mouth connected all the way with the edge of the muzzle, too, it seems to disappear under the nose at the moment.
I also realize the old one doesn't have a neck, but I feel like the new one could benefit from it? I'm not sure. I miss its bent whiskers but I think they'd be hard to work in with that angle of the head. The brain-hair seems too slick and shiny for a ragged pet like the darkonite, too. Too kempt.
I kind of wish the shoulder and neck spikes didn't have to be kept! They make the design look so busy. That's a failing of the original, though.
The foreleg elbows seem like they might be down kind of low. The crease in the elbow seems kind of off, too... gives an illusion of too much weight, maybe?
Are those lighter red patches all over it new markings? Just curious.
There also seems to be a bulge of lineart on the top tail spade?
And out of sheer curiosity because I've ALWAYS wondered, what's going on with the thing's helmet? Are those ears or flexible horns or what? (This is not relevant, though!)

I think the expression for the new one is meant to be sinister ... but it's just not.

I guess I'm not a darkonite person. I think it's the exposed brain that creeps me out. :P
The shading is much improved on the newer one and it might look "cleaner" But all in all I still prefer the older one. I love Darkonites... I'm a bit obsessed with them actually. xD I got my Alfador the day after I joined subeta... probably within a few hours of joining since I joined late in the day... and as much as I appreciate the new image for a lot of reasons, nothing can take the place in my heart of the older one.

This is honestly the first time I've ever preferred an old version to an update. The old one looks more haggard and worn, which in my opinion is how it should be. This is probably a ridiculous comparison, but it reminds me of someone trying to restyle an ugly butch character (in which lies much of their personality) as a bishounen.
nooooo... i love darkonites and this new one is weird.. too cartoony, it makes me think of sonic. the coloring doesn't seem that great, maybe not enough contrast with the shading? and somehow the feet look odd... :( but i'm sure it will be changed anyway.
The art is an improvement, but I agree completely with the comments that it lost some personality. The smirk is out of place; it makes him look mischevious and punky with that little tuft of hair...versus the old one, which looks more disgruntled and unapproving. I prefer the old one's "aura", if you will. There's something about the proportions of the body on the old one...I know it's very old art, but those proportions give it some personality. In the new version, I can tell that some "chunkiness" was kept, but it doesn't seem as unique as the old one, in my opinion. I think I would like it better if the belly was convex/an outward curve rather than an inward one...I don't know why he has to seem so skinny. ):

I don't like the eyes, tail, hair, smile, and general thin and roundedness of the new one. The Darkonite should be a spiky, hefty fella.
I like the back legs on the new...but the rest isn't quite...I like the old more on that. :) But I'm sure when it's all done it will be very nice. :)

I don't like parts of the new one. He is smiling, and that doesn't seem to fit. And the brighter colors seems to cause him to lose some of the dark personality. He is supposed to be evil, but the new one doesn't look evil.
Something about the new one's face doesn't sit right with me, and surprisingly the polls are like 50/50.

The art on the new one is vastly superior but there is something about the face that looks kind of skewed to me. Also I think the weighting of the body is off, on the new version the back looks stocky and strong where as the front looks rather slender. On the old one the weight was more evenly distributed.
Yeah, the frazzled whiskers on the old are better too. The new one is too... clean. Also I like how the old one is looking directly at you instead of just kind of smirking from the side.
I dunno, the new one looks awkward. The pose seems stiff, and the front part of it looks...strange. The head seems squished in, and the expression looks weird. I voted for the old, even though I'm not a great fan of that either, but that new one definitely needs improvement before I'd vote for it.
I do not like the facial expression of the new one, it is too cheerful and happy. Over all the new one looks too cartoony and happy in my opinion, I vastly prefer the styling of the old one :)

Two- its spikes around the head are far less prominent, making the darkonite seem cuter and softer rather than the harsher and more violent appearance of the older one.

I also prefer the darker feet of the original to the significantly lighter of the new, but that's not a deal-breaker for me.

The new one, I wish it had that scar-like stuff over the eye, and maybe even the angle. It just looks blocky and really fake. Sure, the quality is nice, but it looks like a fathead of the species than anything else (if you aren't familiar with fatheads, they are easy to find on the internet). Everything just looks really bulky and the joints look awkward on the nearest front limb. The rear half is great! But the front looks so strange; maybe it's the shading. I like the shading better on the old one for the front. The spots around the bone markings look really off.
I also miss the scraggly whiskers.
Either way, I'm mildly unimpressed by this revamp. I'm glad you stuck mostly to the pose, but it's not a pet I have or ever intend on getting.

So everyone's voting on the old just because of a smile? Jeez. I like the new one. They can change it a bit before it goes through fully.
Like I mentioned, we understand there will be feedback on this one. Please try to keep it constructive so we know how to fix the problem. Just saying "WTF THE FACE" doesn't really help us!
I prefer the old one. I don't like the smile or the eyes and the front legs look a little odd. It does deserve a revamp but I don't really like this new one. The only thing I like on the new one is the back legs.

I like the details and shading on the new one, but I really prefer the pose, expression, and general foot design of the old one. The new front paws look too soft instead of strong and hard like the old ones. The old one looks more grounded and fierce in general. But I like the angle the new one is drawn from, and the way the tails are shown completely. A mix of the two would be perfect!
I like the scowl of the old one. Otherwise the old one looks too cutesy. I imagine Darkonites to be more evil. The new one looks more mature I'd guess you would say. More 'grown up' and darker. Just do not like the smile.
I think it looks fantastic but the smirk looks out of place, moreso like it goes too high and looks disconnected..it just almost looks like somewhat of a random line that appears on the face. And it looks a little strange with how close to the eye it goes....otherwise, it looks great.
The new oe looks good, but I'm not so sure about that smile. The muzzle looks like it's a bit too round with the smile in there, but the body definitely looks good and I like its upgraded shading.
Ugh, I like everything, except the face. The face looks like something out of the VERY original designs, back when graphics weren't very good. Come on, subeta, you can do better than that.
I like the old one, the new one looks more sleek I'll admit. But it's mouth just kind of looks weird it makes me thing of like a mouse or something.
