heart's in the right place with a revamp for this but it just seems so bland. the pose isn't really spectacular but i guess for common you can't expect much. the one thing that really bugs me is that the nose feels like it's too low on the muzzle, so it sort of looks like it's melting off.

I say the new one looks nice, however it doesn't look as evil as the old one ;.;. I kinda don't like the smile on the new one neither. Lol, that's just my opinion though (:
I love the body of the new one, but the face looks off. Maybe extend the muzzle a bit and make the irises larger?
I love the new one... besides the expression. Somehow the expression looks really awkward. The muzzle too is kind of mousy and weird and doesn't really make me think 'cat' or 'attitude' like the other one did. The mouth changes the entire personality of the pet. I never thought Darkonites were supposed to be a really smiley pet anyway, so why change the expression into a smile instead of the old one?
Like Chou said, the new one doesn't look as fierce. The paws in the other one are set so they're bigger and make it look more grounded, if that makes sense? The new one just looks too pudgy and cutesy. I do like the hooves on the new one better, but I wish the forelegs were more spread apart so it looked tougher.

The smile really needs to be a frown or a snarl/growl for it to be a darkonite. The nose needs to be less bear like and maybe more catlike? Please make the eyes bigger? I can barely see them. Also the break in the skull cap and its placement seems a bit odd, more so with how the tuff of hair falls. The head and front legs look to small for the body. I'm sad to say, I'm quite unimpressed with this revamp, which is a first. And it upsets me, because I actually quite like the Darkonites.
So why do I dislike this revamp?
It just doesn't look like Subeta pet art to me. It looks far too cartoonish.
I feel that it could be good - the body is much longer, more realistic and the rear end looks good with the back legs and thicker tails.
I'm really sorry, artist, but this really isn't my cup of tea. I feel like I'm being overly picky, and perhaps I am, but I just don't like it. :c
So why do I dislike this revamp?
- The front legs look disproportionate - too chunky and the joints shouldn't exist.
- The tuft of hair is too luscious and clean for a Darkonite. It also seems to be coming from nowhere?
- The lighter markings are about the same colour as the shading and in addition, it doesn't look like that shading is all that accurate. I have no idea where the light source is supposed to be coming from.
- I agree with everyone else, that the smile should go and the whiskers should return. What's a Darkonite without its whiskers?
- I also agree with everyone about the face - the muzzle seems too squished and small, and just...I don't know, like its in the wrong place.
- I also personally don't like the eyes - I feel they're too small and the whole over-highlighting makes it look like someone is shining a torch in it's face.

The overall style is a huge improvement! I don't think the smirk is very fitting at all, though. The front legs could be a bit thicker, the horns could be a bit thinner (they look more like bony ears rather than horns; I don't mean this in a bad way, I just can't think of another way to describe it), and the irises of the eyes could be a bit bigger and more vibrant. I kinda miss the frayed whiskers, too. Er, all of that sounds really nitpicky, but I really do mean it in the best way! Like I said, it's a huge improvement, and I'm so glad the Darkonite is getting love.

not really a fan of the new one, or the colouring. Looks kind of... blotchy? Plus, the smile is awkward, kind of.

I voted for the new one, as I like the art much better, but I still think it needs some little changes. What bothers me are the position of the head and the facial aspects. Looks like the neck is too short (even though the original seems to have a very short neck it looks odd with the new version). And I don't like the looks of the muzzle and eyes, while I can't really lay my finger on it why I dislike them...

Looks great! I'd like to see the whiskers put back (crumpled whiskers are such a good darkonite thing) and maybe the smirk a bit less dramatic/cartoony, but it's looking lovely
The new one doesn't look fierce enough in my opinion. The front paws and legs are too small and soft looking; the head spikes need to be bigger again; the whole head design looks too round and cute; the nose would look better if it would be a little higher on the muzzle and maybe also a little bigger/wider; the smile is too friendly, a scowl would be much better; even though I generally like the new tails, they could be a bit thinner again and the markings would look better if they'd be a bit darker again, giving them the "dry blood effect". I personally don't care about the whiskers, but I'm missing the eye-scar-thingy a lot.
That's just my personal opinion though and I tried to be as detailed as I could about what doesn't seem right to me. I love the back legs, tail tips and the new air-horn-design, I think it'll be quite awesome if a few thngs would be changed.

wow. umm, I dont like the new one at all. The body (only) anatomy is nicer but the colors are off and I dont like the head or face at all. I like the longer whisker bones, and the darker eyes with brighter glints. I think I agree with the majority of others when they say they think it needs some updating...
I've really liked all of the newer darkonite pets (I even got myself a glade one, and I never, ever thought I would want a darkonite for a pet!), but there's something about this revamp that's throwing me off. I wish I could be more helpful and say what exactly it is, but I just can't put my finger on it, other than it's something to do with the face.
Although the new one is very, very well done I still much prefer the current one. The newer lacks the attitude of the current and it doesn't feel as dark or apathetic as the current.

I think the head could be fixed a bit- the eyes up and head cocked to the side looks better in the old one though. I also think the pupil needs to be bigger- the red isn't quite as in your face as the old. I think that if that was changed the 'smile' would look more like a smirk, which would be fitting of a darkonite.

Love the legs and tail on the new one, but the whole head is not working for me at all. The tuft of hair coming out of the bit where the brain is showing doesn't look right, the muzzle looks rather bulbous, and the smile just doesn't fit. Gonna have to vote for the old one here, first time I've not liked a new revamp better than the old one.
The smile bugged me a little at first, but I got used to it. The main problem for me is the lack of whiskers; unless they come back, I have to vote for the old art.
I'm not sure I like the eyes on the new one. On the old one, they looked darker, enhancing the glinting red bits and how they seemed to be dark pits. And the smile looks a little goofy. I like how the rest turned out, though.
Err....no its just not really even similar to the old one(which I've been in love with for the longest) I would be truly disappointed if the new one is used. The shading is gorgeous and anatomy is commendable(minus the front paws), but the old has an attitude that is lacking in the new and that seems to be the issue with most of the new revamps. Its like the art gets better but the attitude that we all come to love simply disappears.
Now that I compare the two, the nose placement on the muzzle of the new one looks really off, too. Too low so it looks droopy compared to where it is on the old one. It really changes the appearance of the face/expression. The old one might be too high, but the new one is definitely too low.
The muzzle crease is a tad odd, on top of it's muzzle.. It makes it looks a little chunky or Wile E. Coyote-ish. and I rather the darker points of the original, perhaps make the marks on the legs a shade somewhere between the two? The skull, tails, and back legs are nifty, and the spikes on the back certainly look a bit better. But as others have pointed out the front legs look a tad off. I also prefer a more negative expression, rather than the smug happy smirk.. Also, something that no one else pointed out, I sorta miss how around the eyes looked to be sort of ridge-like on the old one. I also miss the twisted frazzled whiskers XD.
Quick sum up. Mostly the muzzle, creepily curved smile, and the front legs bother me. Whiskers are very much missed, and the leg markings should probably be a shade between the new and the old one.

I love the new body, but I don't really care for the new head, especially the 'smile'... I guess I prefer the idea of an 'evil' pet actually looking at least a little unimpressed and less cute. XD I also really prefer the larger irises on the old design, and the thicker tail and the shape of it in the new design sort of remind me too much of a Hikei... I also really liked the crinkly whiskers, so I'm not sure I like that they're gone. :(
All in all, I think the new one has better technique as far as the artwork itself goes, but the details on the old design seem to work better.

The backend seems the right size but then the front looks weak as does the tiny head.

I agree with most of the comments about the smile, it is a bit out of character. I also think its looks like the leg is bending at an odd angle. The front shoulder seems to be awkward, it juts out too much or something (kinda reminds me of the Fester revamp problem). Maybe just a minor tweek will fix it up.
I voted for the old one; I think the new one lost some of its feel to it, and the eyes just totally don't pop out at all. They're so small in comparison to the old one and too dark.
The art is much better, and I like the general body shape too. But I dislike the eye, the expression, and the lack of whiskers on the new one, as I feel that they all change the personality of the old pet completely, and I know from personal experience, I hate that more than anything, when it happens to one of my pets.

I like and voted for the new one, but I agree that the smile needs to go and the whiskers need to come back.

The Fur Tuft- It does look more like bangs than anything else; it seems to me like that should be shorter. It's a little random that it'd be growing that much longer in comparison to the rest of its fur anyway, unless there's an entire mane under that helmet/skull plate! I get it was long in the old one, too, but it seems just too long on the new one. xD

My two complaints over the new: I miss the darker stais on the paws, and shouldn't be smiling. I guess the scowl adds to the devilish look.
A couple more comments--I like how on the old one, the spikes/plating on the chest look very defensive. They're one of the most prominent and unique aspects of the darkonite, so I think it would be nice to see them played up more in the revamp.

I voted for the old one. The new one isn't anywhere near quizzical enough. It doesn't really embrace the personality the old one had. Actually, I don't think the old one needs updated much at all. Clean up the lines some and you're good. The chestpiece would need a bit refining, but that's the only thing I can see on the old one that needs any kind of change.
However I will say I like the feet, the tail, and the head-piece on the new one. They're pretty nice. But that face...the expression, the shape, the lack of whiskers, the eyes, the spikes....It's all just....No.

I adore the smirk! It adds to it and transforms the darkonite in my opinion, and the art generally looks so much prettier. I like the new eyes too, all in all i love the new facial expression and the rest of it looks good too. The only thing I'd say is that I loved the whiskers on the old darkonite, and I'm sad to see no whiskers on the newer version!
I like that we're moving towards new artwork so I voted new but I have the same complaints as the others with regards to losing the mean dark and violent character of the old darkonite. The old one reminds me of how a cat would look if you threw a bucket of water on it and it lived in the streets for two weeks and I surprisingly really miss that. I also like the older one's facial structure and how the snout is proportioned to the the head. The new snout is all rounded and seems to jut out more making it look like a different sort of animal entirely to me.

I feel like the old art was so stylized, the design loses all it had going for it when you try to translate it into something that's more anatomically correct. I think if you're going to try and make more sense of it (the original design is kind of messy and pell-mell), you'll have to stylize it a bit in a new way, since it's losing the majority of the feeling of the previous art. I know it's not exactly like the original, but I feel like the design would look a lot more aesthetically pleasing with smaller legs and feet. I keep looking at those back hooves, and while the art is great, they just look so heavy and bulky. I'm also feeling the absence of those whispers pretty strongly. I'd like to see them make a reappearance.

While the art is better, the old design is cuter and more likable. I just want to smack that annoying smirk out of its face... so, voted for the current Darkonite.

The new one is a pretty faithful update art-wise (and I tend to prefer revamps that are faithful updates over full-on overhauls). However, I'm not fond of the smile, since it's such a big change in facial expression from the gloomy scowl of the current design. A more neutral expression would be a better fit than doing a complete 180 from gloomy to cuddly. Also, I miss the twisted whiskers and the lighter colored marking over the left eye (the eye closest to the viewer). They're such small touches, but add a lot to the spooky feeling of the species. Overall, you're on the right track, but (as it often is with drawing living things) the devil is in the details.
The skin on the new one seems off. It looks taut and shiny for some reason. Also, the skull helmet is now shiny for some reason, too. The foreleg closest to us also looks a bit messed up near the elbow part. And I'm not a fan of that tiny little nip of line jutting from behind the tail point furthest from the viewer. It's like some of the coloring went out of the lines? I think this revamp needs to be looked at a second time.

I love the tails and the legs/paws/hooves of the new one! But I think the eyes, tuft of hair, and generally personality aren't as nice as the old one. I don't know, I've always viewed Darkonites as some sort of mutated freak, and personally I don't think that's really reflected in the new one. I think there may need to be more exposure of the brain...it's barely visible in the new. And ohhh the whiskers! I love those whiskers! I'd be a bit disappointed if they weren't in the final revamped version, to be honest. ;o;
