As Morostide celebrations draw to a close, the change is noticeable in Shadowglen. Master Skelly's pumpkin patch has nearly been picked clean after its patrons have unearthed treasures and some less savory things. When the night gets darker and the wind gets chillier, the pets of Subeta become aware that it is time to find a home to retire until next year. Spirits, shades, cadavers and nightmares, some familiar and others new, all seek to put an end their wanderlust. Perhaps yours is the home for them?

A while back, we told you that we wanted to involve all of you more in the decision-making process when it comes to the way the site is run, so we are presenting you with just such an opportunity today!



As you may well know, we recently instituted double-blocking, a feature that automatically blocks anyone who has blocked you. We have received a lot of feedback on it; some has been positive, some has been negative, and all of it has been carefully considered. We have arrived at the conclusion that you, the users, should be the ones who ultimately decide whether or not we ought to keep this feature. However, before you head off to the Polls, you should carefully consider the pros and cons of the double-block system.



Pros include a potentially marked decrease in the amount of drama onsite; if two people who normally fight and argue at every turn no longer exist for one another, the opportunity for the altercation to continue onsite is dramatically reduced. You don't have to manually track who has blocked you so that you can avoid posting on their threads, making responses to them that they'll never see, or bidding on their forum auctions with no chance of winning. It can greatly simplify what can sometimes become a complicated situation, particularly for those who find themselves frequently blocked by their peers.



On the other hand, some people find that the Cons outweigh the benefits of the system. You cannot, for example, keep an eye out for users breaking rules to report to the moderation staff. Users may find their forum browsing experience significantly reduced if they are frequently blocked because they are unable to see posts from people by whom they might not personally be bothered or otherwise have no interest in blocking in return. Stickies, particularly those written by non-staff, may not be visible if the author has blocked you. Some unscrupulous users may even attempt to "cheat" out forum auctions by blocking all other bidders, effectively making their bids invisible to all but the auction-holder.



As you can see, there is a lot to consider, and we hope that you will give this matter some serious thought before arriving at your final conclusion. After all, the future of Subeta is in your hands!

The Item Directory Building now has a catalog with all rarity 1-150 items in it :)



Also, the staff have been working hard to put together graphs for each item that include recent prices, and today's daily price. I wonder what happened to make wax lips jump so much? ;)

Millionaire Center Update!

The Millionaire Center has been refurnished with new-old goodies for everyone to enjoy. The prices on many of the items have changed. The prices of the Chibi Potion and Dark Matter Potion have been increased dramatically to help meet the the demands of the stock holders. Along with the potions, many of the weapons have been upgraded to meet their new prices.

Expect more changes to come soon!

Hello, Subeta! This is Alex, Subeta's primary programmer.



A week or two ago, I mentioned that I'd be starting a blog of sorts to keep everyone informed about recode progress, so I don't have to clutter the news posts with recode updates.



I've started using my Subeta journal, http://subeta.net/journals.php?act=journal&user=3 as a recode blog, so make sure you subscribe to it if you don't want to miss any updates.



My first post basically describes what recode is and why we need it. Let me know via the comments (either here or on the post itself) if there's any topics you would like to see covered, and I'll do my best to oblige.

It's that time of year again--when the fog begins to swirl around your feet and the leaves are turned over by Lady Fall, when the air becomes mischievous and nips at your chin 'til you tuck it inside your wool scarf. Yes, the month of October has descended upon Subeta, and with it, Morostide.



Jaxon's pumpkin patch is becoming dotted with orange (and black, as Snowflaik slinks through it), and Subetans everywhere have grown festive with the season and are distributing free candy and trinkets to anyone who happens by!



I even hear that Jaxon has upped the prize for finding his precious Snowflaik... ;)

Hello, everyone. It has been quite a while, hasn't it?

Regrettably, our Nuclear Tagging program has fallen by the wayside due to insufficient funding, rendering our tags obsolete. To avoid any possible medical complications in the far future, we have removed the ID tags from your nuclear pets. Rest assured that they are in good health and this was only a precaution.


On the bright side, you may have noticed that the Kumos, Malticorn and Irion are now available in Nuclear as well.

Recently, a team of linguists studying the winged creature we've known as the Aerie discovered that we'd misunderstood these majestic beasts all along. After reviewing their language, it's become clear that they refer to one another as Irions. What we mistakenly believed to be The Aerie turned out to be the name for their home, not their species. On Wednesday morning at ~3AM Subeta time, we will be taking the site down to copy the database from our primary database server to the secondary database server.

When we had downtime the other day (MySQL errors) the two database servers lost their connection and stopped transmitting information to each other. :(

So, we'll be taking the site down to update the secondary database with an up to date database. :D

This is an official reminder that per our decision to stop celebrating Earth's holidays and start developing Subeta's own holidays and customs, Halloween is now called Morostide.



Morostide is still essentially Halloween, but with Subeta's own twists, like lasting three weeks instead of one day, and hunting in Jaxon's pumpkin patch.



Please refrain from using the term Halloween in the news. This holiday no longer exists in the world of Subeta.
