Work in progress!

We're going to be in for a bumpy ride for the next few hours, there will be some tweaks made and the site will likely continue to toggle between online and off.
Thank you for your patience while we work through these kinks, once this is complete we will be much faster and be able to handle things like events significantly better.

Our prayers are with you, dear Subeta, every step of the way.
@Keith Just wanted to really quick let you know that https://subeta.net/ isn't redirecting to the news page and is instead showing a 403 Forbidden Error! Figured that might be an easy one to miss.
@Connor_RK800 Unfortunately I think that's another issue entirely, as I'm in the same boat. I'm sure it'll be resolved when everything smooths out again though!

And yes - Heroku is the new provider, so blocking them might have adverse effects on your experience on the site.
You're welcome to block new relic - it's a tool that we can use to see the "end to end" user experience, bugs, and how long pages load not just from a database perspective but also response from API, and how long it takes javascript to paint those things onto your browser. Some pages can take upwards of 20 seconds even if the database query takes 500MS, and that is unacceptable. So we're able to better track and make notes of those things now.

@frederick THANK YOU that is a great explanation! Bug is about to make a post in the site updates outlining something very similar.
Thank you everyone for the patience, and I understand those of you who feel frustrated! I'd tested a lot of these changes ahead of pushing them to Heroku, but unfortunately things never go exactly the way that you plan, and you can't really plan for every case that will come up on the site once you do move.
We've been spending yesterday and today smashing a lot of these bugs, and the good news is that we'd have had to at some point any way. The PHP provided on the Heroku containers is 7.3, we were running 7.1 in the past (the highest version amazon offered). A lot of the older code on Subeta is no longer... valid (and hasn't been for awhile) and at a certain point PHP decided to just make those things errors instead of warnings.
So we're resolving some much needed old code to work better, which should make the site much more enjoyable.

Does the clear cache thing work for HA salon hairstyles?
My boy is bald and I'm giggling but also I miss his cute hair
But thanks for all the hard work my dudes! This is one of the virtual pet sites that I've remained throughout the years and I have seen it only getting better :D

@CastlesInTheSky Heroku is Subeta's new cloud hosting provider. They moved from Amazon's AWS using Docker as a container to Heroku using their proprietary container (Looks like they call them 'Dynos'). Herokucdn is likely Heroku's content delivery network, and not ad or tracking related- it's to serve the sites they host and blocking may slow the site for you.
Newrelic offers application and environment analytics, which Keith could be using to monitor to the site to find bugs and keep and eye on overall site performance. So this may not be related to tracking and advertising. I guess blocking does no harm here?
Moving cloud platforms and changing your container is a huge undertaking for one or two people to handle. While it's been a rough move, it's not really unexpected that there's a ton of lag and errors. Can we laugh together then next time we see a sales pitch for a container that claims to be truly platform agnostic?

For people still not seeing the base on your HA, remember to clear your cache! I dont know about other browsers or on mobile, but on Chrome I use Ctrl + Shift + R :)

This is mega weird, been trying 6 times and again in vain after the "can't comment" ?!
I guess, we're're online, but a ton is not finished yet? Can't reach the map, shop search is working now, but why is every link ending in /news.php, thus not working?

Another comment to let our admins know how much their hard work is appreciated.
But please, sincerely, GET SOME SLEEP AND FOOD. We love Subeta, but please take care of yourselves too.

Yeah I mean, I can understand people being upset that this is taking such a long time, but its not like staff can just press a button and have everything be fixed automatically. Like do you think theyre not working on it or something? Do you think theyre just sitting in a room somewhere laughing at us getting frustrated about the site still having issues? Im sure they want the site to be stable again just as much as we do, it just doesnt make any sense for anyone to think that they would want it to be broken on purpose. Theyre not going to get as much ad revenue or CSC purchases or anything from a partially functioning site with barely anyone online, it doesnt benefit them at all.
Just try to be patient, and it will be fixed when its fixed.

Thank you so much for all your work! <3
Things which happened to me this morning:
Things which happened to me this morning:
- Forum threads wont open at all.
- Wardrobe is blank.
- User Shops are blank, I cant buy a thing, neither sP nor CW shops.
- Pings to my Colovaria group forums showed "Morostide Events" as their headline.
- My post here wont show up at first (I skipped apostrophes for this one)

Thank you for hold your Word, yesterday you say we keep our Bathhouse Days and today, tataaaa - all is there. I know is not important for you as Worker, but for me as a little Player is a big Thing :) and thank you for doing this Job, i am not jaylous, really not :)

I think we should all be thankful that Keith and the Subeta team are willing to spend all this time working on the site so we can all enjoy it. They arent getting any sleep and are probably exhausted so please everyone take this into consideration!

@arixen
Exactly...people complaining about this are being childish. Yes, of course it sucks when a site we like is offline, but websites dont magically run themselves. They need work and maintenance to run properly, which is done by REAL PEOPLE who are giving up their time and sleep to do so. That alone should make us all grateful. Compare this to sites like Neo whose staff doesnt give a crap about their users, or modernizing or improving the site at all. So yeah, I am grateful that subeta has a staff that realizes that subeta is about its users and not just money, and constantly works to improve it for us.
Furthermore, there are many other websites and games out there, and better yet, an entire world outside of the internet. Find something else to do and stop badgering the staff.

imagine making a list of things that are still broken when the site isnt even up and running 100%

Thanks to Keith and the Subeta staff, I hope you are all getting some much needed sleep. Im sure the new servers will be amazing once all the kinks have been worked through. Thanks for sticking with this over such a looong period.
@Evil - thank you for the links, they are very helpful - wasnt sure I remembered the exact urls

Quote by @Cassandra:
Cant speak for other users, but in my case I am grateful because I have been a software developer myself and have some idea what is happening to try to fix the site. I was lucky enough to be working in a large company with lots of developers and support and there were still times when I had to work long hours to fix/change things. Subeta is a small site with only a few people to do this work. So more than 24 hours of downtime usually means that someone (or a very few people) are diligently working to try to fix things and they are usually working mostly straight through with little sleep. So one thing I am grateful for is that, despite the size of the staff, they at least try their best to keep the site up and downtime to a minimum, rather than just shutting down for a day or a few days to do this sort of work, as they could easily do. Maintenace like this is necessary to allow Subeta to keep running current features and to be able to add new things and handle events. Without this sort of work, users would actually have worse difficulties over the long term. Also, I have been around for a while now and I can see the value of the work being done. How lag is much less during events, how the site runs better and smoother in between these major changes. So I am grateful that they are still actively trying to improve the site and are willing to continue tackling this sort of major work even though they are aware that many users will be upset. And finally, Subeta really cares about all the users and has always gone way above and beyond in their generosity to make up for any downtime or inconveniences to users. I have not seen that elsewhere. So that is what I am grateful for, even during this relatively short period of difficulty. Yes, I would love it if Subeta could always be available and working 24/7. And I miss it when it is not since this is where I spend most of my online time. But I am truly grateful that staff is working hard to keep Subeta here and working well into the future. Is there a reason why users are so grateful for more that 24 hours of downtime?

Im looking forward to the finished product. The 18 hours of constant downtime was the longest Ive ever seen subeta down for. Its bumpy now as as the finishing touches happen.
I found out I cant post anything if theres an apostrophe in your text. If you cant post take out your apostrophes.
Thank you for your hard work through the night and day.

last time there was a scheduled downtime to "fix" things, more things became broke & the lag/errors were atrocious.
I stand by what I said the other day.
New scripts for analytics (instant blocked!)
herokucdnn white pages (I block Iframes (& now the actual herokucdnn url/s) so not a clue was was actually shown on that page),
newrelic (again anything to do with that has been instantly blocked)
Being randomly Logged out, providing proper name/passwrd takes me to a amazonaws(dot)com "under maintenance page" (I block Iframes so not a clue was was actually shown on that page).
In over 11 years on this site, Ive never been randomly logged out before, till today.
Having to do quests the long way/workaround since shop search is still a white page.
All the stuff Ive blocked actually doesnt affect my usage on this site.

Hopefully everything can be sorted out soon. ;~;
I know it is frustrating, but at least this way it can be done with before all of the holidays that we have coming up over the next several months. Thanks for the hard work, and I hope the new server host makes things easier for everyone in the future.

(Also, they have still been posting occasional updates on twitter, in case anyone wants to see more info about whats been going on, be sure to keep checking there too.)

so should we wait to do quests today since it was said there would be quest bonuses? or should we do them since they might get reset when bonuses come?

Thank you Subeta team for all your hard work and I am sorry for being such a grouch earlier on here. Please forgive me :(
Really digging the Avatar at the top of the post. Thanks @Keith and @SubetaTeam for all of your hard work. Hopefully you can get some rest in!

thanks @Ziorac
that way gets me to the shop search.
I dont have hover as I block it, but i just opened account search in a new tab & went from there.
I dont mind C&Ping the items. Its basically the old way I used to do quests anyway.

Personally I think a better work around for the shop search issue is by using the hover item menu and clicking account search (I use open in new tab too). From there you can click shop search, since that link still works. It saves having to copy and paste the item names every single time.
I hope all the kinks get worked out soon and I wonder what the special treat for the extended downtime will be. (As announced on twitter.)

For those trying to do quests...
clicking "shop search" within the quest still brings up a blank broken page, but if you do it manually:
Commerce > Shop Search > Type or Paste item name
That is working for now. Slowly, but it is working. Just a heads up for anyone wanting a work-around for quests this morning!
