Morostide: One last treat

Morostide might be over but we’ve got one last treat for you. Rouland is ready to rumble at the Battle Coliseum until 11:59pm on November 4, when all the Morostide challengers leave.

Note: I considered extending the holiday itself, but it didn’t seem like we’d get the site stable enough for it to really make a difference. 2020 trick or treat items will be moved to the Carnival prize pool soon (there will be a news post when it happens).

We’ll also be giving out retired morostide restockables sometime during Luminaire via quests along with some other retired holiday items. These were never originally going out via quests during Morostide, but I thought I'd mention them here. <3

You're right about the experiments, but I think the three vibrants were more because of the monthly theme of spooky tropical. ;) So while they didn't fit *Morostide*, they absolutely were fitting with the October Monthly Theme, at least.

Morostide isn't coming back this year - the site is still too unstable and we have other events coming up. Time to think of solutions for next year.

The only way to fix the minion nip is to add more minions in the patch. There are far too few minions compared to everything else.

Perhaps Nekokin and its buddies could have added back into the pool

The previous post had "until November 5" while this has "until 11:59pm on November 4".

Is Rouland really leaving earlier? Or is my (and literally everyone else's) interpretation of Nov 5 @ 11:59pm wrong for the other challengers? @Amber

also reading the other comments, perhaps the minion nip could be fixed and just the patch/tot reopened with reduced times for 4-5 days just to give people a chance to make up for lost time, but forego the floating pumpkins if they're to blame for the bulk of the lag? 🚫🎃 just an idea 🥺👉👈

Oh geez! You should create a ticket for that, so staff is aware and can cancel it on time!

I agree I would have liked a reminder for the ending date - to be honest I didn’t experience lag or errors, but it guess it depends on how you play?

I agree with @Apocalyptic about insisting on ending it on the same date no matter how late it starts, why do you think I get so worried when it's over halfway through the month and it hasn't started yet? And you make most other events last at least 14 days even when they start later than usual, so why is this one any different? If it's because of the lore, aren't you allowed to break the rules a bit like when you extended it last year? I get that you don't want it to outstay its welcome (I know other events often feel that way when they get extended) but this is one of if not the most popular holiday, with more activities than the others and uses a lot of RNG, one of which is for an achievement that retires after the event ends,and not everyone has the time to try and get everything they need like I have the last few years.

That wasn't meant to be rude or anything, I was just explaining my thoughts on shortening it.

I didn't even know Subeta HAD a discord, and I certainly have no intention of joining it to find information that should be present here. On the site we all use. I DID check twitter a few times and found nothing there, so in general I just gave this up as yet another holiday that crashed Subeta's servers as soon as anyone actually attempted to use the site. Y'all can't hire that communications manager fast enough.

I can't even cancel my subscription (or change it to a lower tier, which was promised to be doable, by the way) because New Subeta is not working properly. @Keith, please, PLEASE don't make me do a clawback with my bank. Continuing to charge me after I click "cancel" is not cool and it's the fault of your new site, not mine. You have until the 11th, I think.

@Brioche that's understandable and will hopefully save you from some irritation. I hope it's worth mention though that - speaking for myself - much of the frustration isn't with the lag or the lack of extension, that's to be expected and should be handled with patience. The issue is staff saying one thing then not acting on it, and being uncommunicative on-site otherwise. Ignore me if you didn't want a TLDR, just thought it might save some trouble.

I didn't even get a chance to play yesterday, and even before that the site kept crashing for me to where I just gave up. I felt like it was impossible to get anything done during the event. I do hope stuff is fixed soon, and thank you for your hard work.

Not much I can say that hasn't been said already, but just chiming in again to agree, PLEASE give us any updates HERE instead of on Discord or whatever! Honestly I didn't even know Subeta DID have a Discord before now, I don't use that or any social media really - it wouldn't cross my mind to check for info on this site, on a DIFFERENT site, unless this one was offline/down or something. I agree that even just a little banner at the top giving a quick update would've been better than nothing.

Again, I'm not angry at the staff or anything like that, events are ALWAYS laggy and god knows everything is always gonna go badly at the worst possible time, that's just the way the world is! x) I totally understand. I'm just a bit disappointed to hear that apparently there WAS info given but on a whole other platform?

Not surprising when you learn that staff whose job it is to monitor support emails in regards to locked accounts is not aware of any new emails coming in about those locked accounts. Even my tech-obtuse mom can check her email once a day at least.

This conclusion has been very disappointing, honestly. The extension itself I don't mind not having, even with the lag issues, but it's a bit shocking to have an announcement made on the site when:

- The event was already over
- We didn't get reduced times
- We didn't get any other news regarding the extension, even just to say "lmao not happening"

It's quite alarming that the staff didn't seem to be aware that one of the majors aspects of the event (reduced times during last day) wasn't working, like did nobody test it at all, something that literally takes 3 minutes to see if it's there (that doesn't count fixing times however)? It was a very unfornunate timing that there were talks about the extension AND we didn't get it. I don't really care about the items, they are dirt cheap right now, but more news about it DURING the actual event would have been nicer.

The staff has been nothing but gentle and coordial when it comes to talking to the community (THAT I HAVE SEEN AT LEAST) and there has been clearly some thought put into the event and the problems surrounding it, but it's not worth much if we can only see those efforts and politeness much later than needed.

Exactly. I think it's funny that the staff person said below she was not contacted by anyone to tell her that the ToT times weren't reduced, but most of us didn't realize it was the last day. I thought that since times weren't reduced and there was no news post, it *wasn't* the last day, so why would anyone make a ticket about that? Had that been confirmed, I'm sure there would have been a ton of tickets made.

I will never understand why staff seem so allergic to using the site news to post news about the site. Ya know, where all the users, new or old, social or asocial will be able to read it.

I appreciate the work going on and can see some things being fixed already, but the communication failures surrounding this holiday have been confounding.

I got pretty much all of the items I wanted, so it's not a big deal for me, but I was pretty bummed that the Pumpkin Patch and Random ToT timers didn't get reduced on the last day as announced. I was hoping to stock up on a few more goodies before Morostide ended. :c

That said, I know you guys are doing your best to keep the site as stable as you can, and I know how finicky coding can be, so I'm not mad or anything! I hope you're all holding up alright.

I love this site so much, I’ve been here for over 10 years and have poured more money into my account than I could ever care to publicly admit, but I just can’t justify it anymore. i think everyone here feels the same, we love and appreciate this site very much and recognise that the staff do their best. but in the case of paying users, those users are paying for a service, and no one should feel compelled to keep paying for any service that can't be provided, regardless of what that is. i don't think anyone would go to the store and buy a carton of sour milk on the basis of 'the milkman did his best, so i'm still gonna buy it!'
at the end of the day if people want to carry on paying that's completely fine, but cancelling subscription to this site is also fine and a completely understandable action to take, especially in light of how the site has broken, and the way moro was extended for battlers, but not for everyone else, minion nip not working, ToT times not being reduced, the lack of communication, etc. i think if moro had just been extended for *all* players til the 5th, people wouldn't be quite so upset.

I feel it's prudent to clarify here that I'm not aggravated with the issues that we should all come to expect of this site and it's holidays. I don't intend to permanently remove my sub, and am not trying to be spiteful in doing so. But for now, I'm not going to.pay for something unenjoyable and hardly functional.
I get that issues happen and it's worth working around to enjoy the site and the hard work of staff. What's aggravating, unprofessional, and appallingly easy mitigate is the lack of communication. All I can do is rely on my own read of the situation, which remained so misinformed that for all intents and purposes, staff mayve truly been struggling and trying their faintest, or they may've sat back and twiddle their thumbs. I trust that the latter didn't occur because I have SOME faith, but I technically cant know for certain if we aren't given the respectful inclusion/communication we at least deserve as paying users.

I know that this is my third post but I just wanna say that I know this is stressful for a small team. I think a lot of the userbase here is understanding of that, and are still willing to understand and support the site.

Pet sites are out of their hayday but like idk it just hurts to see this one going the way of neopets and failed petsites.
I appreciate what you guys do for us and all but I just hope that communication is stepped up a bit.

i don't know jack about programming other than "code is hard" but i'm sure bringing in more programmers is probably not as simple as it sounds since they would have to learn the site's code layout and keith is already busy enough as is

pulling my sub just seems like a dick move when you're all doing the best you can behind the scenes, and i hope things even out soon!! i've been here for almost 13 years so like. the site exploding the way it is is decidedly strange, but technical issues aren't new, and we (users + staff, as a whole) will get through this one way or another haha

It cannot be "turned off". Some of the site, including the wardrobe, fully transitioned to New Subeta.

Old Subeta was also a laggy mess who croaked whenever there were more than 400 users on. While the issues ARE annoying, let's not wear rose-tinted glasses while talking about Old Subeta, k.

I didn't mean to misspeak about how retired items were given out which is why I was posting everywhere to ask for clarification so there would be no false communication next year. I thought that retired T-o-T items could be given out by quest givers, but I was obviously confusing it for the restockable retired items during Luminaire. I didn't mean to cause further confusion, it was the whole purpose of me attempting to start any sort of guide. Which I guess isn't really needed and I apologize.

Morostide was a bit messy this year. I could deal with the lag somewhat, as I tend to get up early anyways and could get battles in before the lag hit hard. But not being able to use the forums because of issues with logging into New.Subeta really dampened it for me. I really don't like New.Subeta requiring us to log into it just to use the forums. I'm not sure why it is that way, unless it's all technical stuff to explain it.

I was looking forward to a few more days to try and wrangle RNG into giving me the pumpkin patch or hex border. :c Why extend the battling portion but not the rest of it? Gotta deal with lag there, too. Morostide is my favorite holiday and I understand staff are doing their best but this is really disappointing.

If "new" Subeta is such a disaster please just stay with old Subeta until the new one is working perfectly before changing anything over. Old Subeta was just fine for me.
Disappointed to log on this morning only to find out quests are still broken. I've seen them not reset before but never broken like this. :(

Subeta has always had stability problems, that's not just these days. That has been the one thing that hindered its growth in all of its history.

It's not as bad as it used to be (HEY REMEMBER WHEN WE COULDN'T ACCESS THE SITE ON WEEKENDS BECAUSE IT JUST FRIGGIN DIED?) but the bar is on the floor at this point.

I think the biggest disappointement for me is yet again no Nightmare, Bloodred or Graveyard pets - new or revamps.

That used to be the thing that made Morostide so exciting to me and for the second year in a row, not getting anything relevant kinda hurts.

Experiments are too RNG based to be truly exciting for me, so seeing that they're the focus for the second year in a row is kinda making me bitter.

We also got no new makeup kits (and the kit didn't unretire in the first place) or no clothing sets.

There are always some problem for the site in these days, first it was the lag issue, then it came to the new subeta issue and it turned out to be quests broken issue today.
Staffs are always late to response to these problems and even if you file a ticket to them, u got a really late response from them anyway.
I feel disappointed really.

Having read Amber's comment on this news post, I can understand there not being an extension given the excessive lag that wouldn't have really made any difference in giving us an extra 24 hours or whatever.

However, did I dream it, or do most site events give us a news post reminder at the beginning of the last day to tell us that this is the last day, and that for Morostide, any ToT / patch timings have decreased?
Because if I didn't dream that for previous Morostides / previous events, it would've been helpful to have a news post Sunday morning with a reminder of it being the last day.... not only would it have confirmed the reduced timings (which didn't appear for me on random ToT or the patch), but would also have confirmed & explained the lack of any extension time and resulted in a 'happy smiling userbase'*!

I wouldn't be upset about the lack of extension to the event if I was even able to get on subeta the last 3 days. It's unfortunate to all the users who wanted to participate in user events and have no way of getting online to even post. Then to post that there is no extension not even a couple of minutes before everything ends is disrespectful to the player base who was looking forward to a little more time to actually have fun.

I wouldn't be so bothered about choosing not to extend the holiday if the times for random TOT and the Pumpkin Patch had actually shortened properly on the last day, it was only normal TOT that did that. And also the forums not working, since I was relying on that to get certain items and also have people to throw eggs at. So I understand why people are so annoyed about this, and I wish it would have been said in that news post from yesterday. I just hope things are working properly before Fireside starts.

That being said, I want to emphasize that I appreciate staff's efforts on keeping Subeta running as much as I always do. I value this site and will stick around as long as it's here. It gets frustrating from time to time, though, and I hope we'll see the community manager in action soon.

Guys, please, just let us know things as they are happening and don't blatantly ignore user questions. If you don't know the answer, just say you don't know the answer. I can patiently deal with anything else, including the site being unplayable for random periods of time, but it's hard to deal with very understandable user questions being thrown into the void and getting an answer much later or not recieving an answer at all.

ugh, this morostide has been so disappointing, sadly... i was excited for it to finally start and then within like a day it was exhausting fighting with the site to work. i could barely do anything and gave up entirely on using the zapper because of how broken the wardrobe has been. it took me like 2 days to make an avatar and get it to save, it was so painful... nevermind how terrible the forums have been.
that said i agree there's no point in extending it. i don't have the enthusiasm for it now, anyway. but at least battlers get to do their morostide stuff for a few more days!

if there's only two options (either we get an extension or we do not) i just do not understand how you would announce going with the disappointing option of the two AFTER the event ends. i mean that's bound to annoy people, it's literally double disappointment. not to mention most expected it to be extended precisely BECAUSE you guys waited so long to say anything. half of this annoyance could have been avoided with putting up a single post or blue border earlier and i feel like that's a mistake that should not have happened after all the talk there's been from the user side that we appreciate communication about these things the most...?

I hope the "Oh No! This is not a valid quest! " problem has been sorted out before retired Morostide restockables are given out during Luminaire quests. This problem has turned up again today.

This is...really disappointing. With all of the errors and them being the worst on the two days I actually could sit and devote time, it's a bummer that nothing worked right and we aren't getting an extension and were notified after the end of the event. It's nice that items will come back in another way but that doesn't solve that minion nip 100% didn't work all event and that we've lost the chance at the patch achievement for crook entirely since those never come back. I found exactly 1 special minion this year which doesn't track for past years at all and I spent the entire event except maybe 5 visits in the area where the newest minion should've been. I'd say I got less than 15 minions total despite wearing nip all event. And the site was completely down for large chunks of Friday night/Saturday.

I appreciate that something is fundamentally wrong with new Subeta but it's just really disappointing that there's no real solution for any of this and that it was not addressed by staff until after the event closed.

i'm really happy for the battlers that they are getting an extension but think it's bitterly unfair that the rest of us won't have one and it's a case of 'yes you missed out but oh well'. it wouldn't have been much to ask to extend the holiday for 4-5 days considering it started late too.

i honestly couldn't tell you; all i know is i literally got and removed the tie-dye skin within minutes of the event going live and i guess the site just got stuck on showing that one for the rest of the event?? i was halfway to opening a ticket on the second day because i thought it gave me the tie-dye skin twice until the wardrobe loaded and showed i had actually received the mushroom skin instead, and for every bribe zap after that i just ignored my on-site avatar (which was tie-dyed each time) and checked the wardrobe to see what it was supposed to be/remove the skin.

(and obviously i can't test it now, but i really do think it was only the bribe zap that got stuck on showing the tie-dye skin for me, because i did some regular zaps to try and get the "free zap" buff just to see what it was, and if i remember correctly, that did not show the tie-dye skin as the result.)

@jensen How long does it hold the cache for? I had run the Zapper while new.subeta.net was completely down and wouldn't even load the onboarding page where Blake greets you, which is the only thing I can think of: it couldn't access my skins and just gave me a random one because as far as it knew, ALL of the skins were new to me.

the bribe zapper had some strange cache problem where the regular site only showed you the first skin you earned each time you took the bribe, but it did give you a unique skin each time (or at least it did for me, on day five it told me there were no more skins to bribe for).
i only had to bribe for four the new skins, but the cache issue meant that the regular site showed the result as the tie-dye skin all four times while the wardrobe showed the correct result.

I mean, 2 minutes after Morostide ends is absolutely not and never should have been the time to announce that y'all thought about but decided against giving us extra time to try and make up for the site instability. That should have been announced WELL BEFORE Staff closed down the holiday. Say you don't respect the time of your players without saying it, tbh.

Like, this is legitimately getting comical. Events consistently face rampant instability, partially because the game is running on two different servers at the same time and one requires us to be connected to the other to function properly. Monthly collections haven't come out on on time in ages, and holidays are starting to become consistently later and later in the season. Euclid's Human Zapper was eating the WT/SP bribe and giving us old skins, likely because new.subeta.net was down, and couldn't prove it in the ticket because the wardrobe runs on new.subeta.net and... it was down, so no screencaps. Hell, Minion Battling was inexplicably and very likely accidentally launched and just... hasn't been patched to function or been patched out so we can't access it like months ago.

At this point I'm past snarky and I'm half concerned. Is the Subeta building on fire or something? WTF is going on over there?

Maybe it'd be a good idea in the future, when everything is breaking like it has been, to have someone manually check?

Yeah the zapper was definitely broken, I had the bribe give me a skin I got a week beforehand, and didn't even know that was the case for almost a full day because of how broken the wardrobe has been. HAs also never copied over to the real site from new the whole event so unless you were obsessively checking it over on new you wouldn't even see if you had a skin equipped (I've changed mine repeatedly over the course of the event but I'm still displaying the same HA with the first random skin zap I got at the start of the event!).

I'd just like to take a moment to say thanks to the staff in their efforts to keep thing running.

As a software engineer myself, I could see attempts to debug and resolve the issues happening throughout the day. And I know from experience that trying to manage communications and fix the problem at the same time is frustrating and counterproductive.

While issues with the timer and lack of extension is a bummer, I rather staff focus on addressing the ongoing problems rather than have another variable to divide their attention.

In the meantime, we can all vent our frustrations on bat boy!

Like others, I'm bummed there isn't an extension but mostly because I didn't get a few items I needed lmfao. But I know how fickle code is and for the most part things were pretty smooth, at least for me. Maybe the ToT items from this year could be a random drop from quests during Luminaire (or some time this year, w/e)? :eyes: Regardless, thank you guys for all the updates and new items + pet colors! :heart:

i get that you've got a lot going on, and not a lot of time to make decisions, but a "we'll maybe do an extension, oh jaaaay kaaaay we're not doing an extension and we won't tell you that even though we had plenty of time to do so" is not great! i'll roll with a lot of the decisions you guys have made even if i don't like them (see: me still existing on this website post-weapon loot box), but the last few days of issues have been particularly irritating, and to have this cap it off is just incredible.

(and your unannounced community manager shouldn't be hinting about extensions either, that's not exactly helping!)

At least I bought what items I needed (although a few are still needed), and I was glad I could still give out some more items in my giveaway, but I'm noticing still errors popping up, as well as not being able to access my WL or add anything to it. Happy I at least got two of the three borders this year, all of the skins (Thank you for the option for the bribing to get a guaranteed skin once a day!), and Crook (Was worried I'd not get him before the event ended), so I'm pretty happy about the event over all.

Do we know how long until the Morostide forums will close, in case some of us still have giveaways and the like going on @Amber ?

Quests are still broken. I've seen them not reset before but don't recall them every being broken. If they aren't going to be fixed guess I'm giving up and going to bed and hope something is working tomorrow.

I think there was a lot of confusion about whether the times were supposed to be shortened today or not because some of us were thinking there might be an extension for the holiday, even though I know it was never 100% confirmed. In the post that was made earlier today about the login issues, quite a few people were asking for more info about whether there would be an extension and where is Rouland, but no staff members ever commented.

I know in cases like this sometimes you have to just see how it goes, but when there is so much confusion and frustration on the player side, it's not a great feeling to get radio silence most of the day. Keith posted in the discord a few times, but other than the news post saying that the lag was being looked into, it kind of felt like nobody was really around.

@Cream @Liasha An extension would be no different then how the site has been, full of errors and just not exactly playable. In the past, we extend when lag/etc has been sorted completely or at least enough that it isn’t too much an issue.

I’m sorry that I didn’t realize all the times didn’t work out like they should’ve. I’m already looking into a way we can possibly open the patch for a few days, maybe as a treat to Dungarde or something for Luminaire!

I am a bit disappointed I must admit, Patch times were still at 17+ minutes and the only trick or treat time that went down was the regular and it went to 5 minutes like normal. I just don't get why there were several days of issues but we couldn't get an extension on the holiday. The site has been unstable close to holiday end in the past and we have still had extensions...Something would have been better than nothing.

I'm frustrated, with all the problems lately I expected an extension. Overall, these past few days performance on Subeta has been not been great. Right now (and yesterday as well) I am getting errors where I can't quest and I'm also unable enter special shops. By the way, I still haven't forgotten about the gold border from Quest-a-thon. It's been literally months without no resolution, and I went out of my way to do every single quest during that time, so I know I earned it.

My patience is wearing thin.

@kokoMO You mentioned the Flameo and Ice skin? I have the Ice skin, but can't really remember how I got it. I think my sister @Eitleoidhme mentioned to me sometime recently that at least one of them was from some special event or something years ago. I think there's somewhere in the forums where some are asking for them to be brought back somehow in another event, but I'm not certain where exactly. :) Hope that helped a little.

I don't use Discord), but I understand the reasoning there. Just wish we could've gotten an update before it ended, ah well. Echoing the comments that would have appreciated notice earlier and the random wait time reduced, but I appreciate the work you fall have been doing behind the scenes to address the errors and glitches that seem to come up at the most inconvenient of times.

@Laurey There was a post that said if things got extended, we’d let you know. While Keith was working on things I hoped the site would be more stable to actually extend and for everyone to enjoy. That didn’t happen, and it was a lot of play by ear unfortunately.

I didn’t get any pings or notifications about the random ToT times not decreasing, I’m sorry! I would’ve hopped on to mess with that. It was hardcoded for Pumpkin Patch, ToT, and random ToT to decrease times on the 31st and every time I did regular ToT and patch it was fine. I'll admit, I didn't do much random ToTing myself.
