Treasure Chest Improvements
The big news: Every pet has two chests now! They share the slots the pet already has, so buying slots is still how you get more room. You can name each one, and you pick which chest shows up on the pet's profile.
And the other updates:
- 🧭 Every pet has a treasure page showing all of its chests at once. A pet's profile still shows just one chest. You'll find the link on the pet's profile (the "treasure chest" header turns into a link - I tried not to add any new UI!) whenever there's more to see than the profile is showing.
- 🔒 Each chest is set to one of three things: on the pet's profile, on the treasure page only, or private so nobody but you can see it. Put the collection you want to show off on the treasure page and keep the profile as tidy as you like.
- ❌ Inside a chest, check off as many items as you want and then remove them or send them to the other chest in one go. Select all and Select none sit next to the count.
- 🔀 Shuffle randomizes the order of whichever chest you're looking at for fun.
- 🐛 Removing an item used to have a couple second cache before actually going away. No more!
- 🤌 Dragging got rebuilt from scratch. The old code was written before browsers had a single way to handle a mouse, a finger, and any other kind of input (like tablet pens).
- ⌨️ There's a full keyboard path either way. Tab to an item, press Enter to pick it up, move it with the arrow keys, press Enter to set it down. A screen reader reads out where the item landed each time, with a real attempt to fix the accessibility issues on this page.
- 🔢 The editor and the pet profile have disagreed about item order for years. Items added straight from your inventory never got a position, which is about a third of everything sitting in a treasure chest, and the two pages were breaking that tie in opposite directions. I went with the profile's order, since that's the one other people see, so profiles look exactly like they did yesterday. The editor is the side that moved. If you open a chest you never arranged by hand, the items may not be where you remember them. Anything you did arrange is still where you put it.
- 🐛 Reordering a chest with more than 400 items in it used to throw away the arrangement of everything outside the block you were dragging in, so the chests that were hardest to organize were also the ones most likely to lose your work. And Mass Add has a search box, so you can type part of an item's name instead of scrolling your inventory hunting for it.
- 🤏 The item grid also sizes itself to your screen now, so the width setting came out.
Reminder: You get to your pets treasure chest from the pets page in the drop down for each pet.

Oh to add onto my previous comment, a sort by ItemID would also help suss out/group together duplicate items, either for organization or removal.. I doubt I'm the only one who's accidentally added two of an item to a TC without meaning to. XD
I really like what's been done so far, I'm surprised we didn't get something to sort by ItemID, perhaps as the counterpoint to Shuffle. XD Some of my pet TCs, it's difficult grouping up the various series all together and it'd be a huge help.

@Keith You're right, it seems just one of my profiles are messed up treasure-wise, so I'll take a look when I can to see if I am able to fix it. I might just have to get a new profile for that pet since the code was already wonky. I really look forward to see how you'll revamp the base pet profiles! <3

It's cool to see TCs being worked on - the category thing isn't for me personally, but I'm happy to see others excited about it - but with the way I use TCs and visually organize things, this update makes them a lot less usable just with the loss of the # per row option. I get that it was kind of confusing in that it didn't affect the final display, but it very much had a function.
wait i'm confused, you removed the ability to set how many items per row we see while organizing the tc? why? i need that to see how it will look on the pet's profile. e.g. i have a pet profile where i intentionally made the tc narrow (4 items wide) so items appear in a particular pattern. now while organizing items i can't see if they will correctly make that pattern without rearranging, refreshing the profile, rearranging again, refreshing again, etc.

@Damon There are some folks with hundreds or more items for their pets treasure chests, and there have been a lot of requests for being able to choose which ones show on the page, or sort them into categories. There are going to be more updates to the pet profiles (new versions so you have to opt in) that make it a lot nicer to work with these separate chests.
Such a great qol improvement. Thank you so much! I no longer feel dread about working woth my pets' treasures.
I'd really love for there to be an option to set the item width again, at least on the profile. I spent a lot of time sorting my items into sections and deeply enjoy organising themed rows. ;u; Still, thanks for the love and work put into the pet treasure system~
could we get a link to the pet page on the treasure page (the one where we make changes, i mean, not the 'display' one), so that we can more easily navigate between the two? i often go back and forth between the treasure chest and the edit description page when i'm messing around with a pet.
there's a link to the pet profile itself but not the, uh, the page for the specific pet that has links to edit description, changing name, etc. i use that page a lot to avoid having to load my full /pets.php page lol.

AHHHHH I have to leave for work in a little bit so I can't play around with these updates, but holy moly, thank you SO MUCH for implementing these! Keith, it's incredibly sweet that you specifically mentioned changing the way drag-and-drop ordering works, and that a tablet pen can be used now - that means so much to me, and I hope it'll help other people out too! 💙💙

The love pets are getting right now is making me so excited again. I know some amazing profiles are going to come from these changes, and cannot thank you enough for investing the time into making these great updates! And mass removal ahhhhh. THANK YOU. omg!!!!! exciting stuff, thank you so much for the update to pet treasure chests!!! 'u' love the treasure page for each pet, that's a great option for people who like to build TCs but might not want an entire giant TC on the pet profile because of aesthetics!
really really appreciate this update and am very excited, thank you for all your hard work! (altho, god, no pressure haha but now i'm even more excited for v3 pet profiles, since i remember you said that's prob when we'll be able to display multiple TCs on the profile itself!)

This is so fun, I'm looking forward to playing with it! Trying to figure out the best way to use it, Couple of things though, it's awkward to move items because you can't tell exactly where it's going to place it, can you make it so it highlights both of the other items that you're moving the selected item in between, instead of just the one you're moving it in front of? Also, the width setting... I have a pets that are organized by color and or item type and the width setting is important for them, without it their TCs would essentially be... destroyed? I don't want to sound dramatic but yeah XD

I can't wait to play around with this (sadly err, my profile code went haywire over code that's no longer needed thanks to tapping an image working as hovering now, but major projects at work haven't left me the mental energy to update 100+ profiles lol)!
That said, TC adjacent request if it's doable… could you somehow make an option where we can set the # of TC items per row that show on the pet's profile? I do it with code but it's always a fistfight, so if I could just set a number and be done with it that'd be amazing 🥺
