Challenge the Panzer Hydra!
Hello, everyone! I'm sure by now you're all drunk and having a great time, but hopefully not so drunk that you aren't up for a bit of battling fun.
Over at Yun Enterprises, I've spent years now designing the various steamwork pets. But with each passing year, there are fewer and fewer pets to design, and soon I'll run out of them entirely! I'm not one to sit around idly, and while it's true that there are still some pets to work on, I wanted to give myself a challenge this year. And my challenge can also be your challenge, if you think you're up to it.
So please, give a big, warm welcome to the Panzer Hydra! You can face off against my newest creation in the Battle Coliseum. You'll start off against the single-headed version, and if you defeat it enough times you'll earn yourself an achievement and way to unlock the three-headed version. Defeat that one enough times to unlock the next, and keep doing that all the way up to the final, the toughest, eight-headed Panzer Hydra!

These challengers will show up in the Event tab! They will no longer be available to battle after Masquerade, so make sure to use your medals while the event is still going on.
Note: We do have a plan to release items that are like the medals (same image, different name) for those that want them for treasure chests etc so no need to keep suggesting it. We’re also looking into doing this for some account bound items like the Meat Slab items. :)

I'm actually kind of disappointed. I ended up using the first medal only to find out I have to be way way WAY stronger to even have a chance. I was hoping to get to do this challenge event, but nope. I wish I could have sold the medal to someone who could have used it instead, now. Dx Arghhhhh.
8-headed Panzer Hydra....nope nope nope....Madison isn't going to be able to even dent an 30,000 hp combatant. Not till next year...maybe....

@Aloysius Yeah, if you unlock it this year and we bring them back next year you won’t have to unlock them again! They’ll just be disabled from fight outside of Masquerade.

Well, my little T6 got me to the 3rd opponent, and thats more then I thought he would, however my idiot self redeemed the medal and can go no further, ah well xD
@Adventurer You have to unlock the next challenger by clicking on the prize medal in your inventory and redeeming it ^^

@Aloysius thanks... I was just thinking the same. If they come back sometime, I think it'd be nice to reset our progress, so we can have the medals at galleries/vaults
@Amber I've got a couple of questions, please. Are these guys coming back next year? Also, assuming they do come back, if I were to get rid of the Gold Medal(lion) would I be able to get another Gold Medal next year (after beating all the challengers again) ? Or would we have to buy one from user shops, assuming anyone would want to sell?
If we beat the boss a additional 10 times for a total of 20- can we get another medal? I really dont want to loose this awesome thing.

Oh my god, I love this! The artwork, the challengers themselves (even though I'm already sad about the fact that my battle pet won't be able to beat the last one), the loot, everything! Thanks for this nice surprise!
I got the gold medal to keep! Syrax is only a mid tier 12 so I don't believe she can beat this one even with the manifesting weapon!
@Amber I saw where some were saying something about the the achievement prize and having to chose between TC and challenger. Why not leave it the way it is, but on the 10th win have a loot drop also with an inactive shield. Would that maybe work instead of trying to code the achievement to give next challenger. That way the achievement can give the active item and the 10th win loot give the inactive one? Just a thought, might be a dumb one but tossed it out there anyways.
@Ziorac I think my issue, aside from PEBKAC, is the combination of the normal stat up that happens between every battle and the weapon upgrade that happens at battle 10. The stat up I could probably take (he would be a challenge probably), or the weapon upgrade, but both together just equals a brick wall. I'm not sure if it's intended or what. Feels disappointing to suddenly hit an unpassable wall like that without much challenge build up.
I'm keeping my gold medal, darnit. I know I can't beat the last one, so I'm keeping it. wishes she could keep them all
I was able to defeat the third hydra 5 times, so I'm glad I at least got the sword! I can't get past that, though.

Really wanted to try to keep fighting by dammit I need at least one of these gorgeous medals for Once and Future King's TC. The art is SO gorgeous. ;__;
@canebrake I am having the exact same problem. Breezing through up that point and then suddenly it starts spamming Mighty Cannons or whatever. It's not an instakill for me, but it's still unbeatable. I feel like it's on purpose so you don't unlock the last one, but come on, just let me have that last achievement and then hit the boss wall. This just isn't fun. .____.
Weird. Everything up to the seven headed version battle 9 was a breeze to me, which I could handle with ease. Battle 9 is one shotting me on the second turn about half the time and I seem unable to make much of a dent in it. Maybe the stats are jumping too much? Hard to say if I was just lucky those other times, but I'm not sure it's entirely bad luck on my part after hitting the battle 9 wall. I went from success with standard tactics to not even like sliver of hope or any seeming progress by switching things up. BAM, hit for 3.5k, dead.

Hmmmmm I guess I will wait to see how prices for loot shake out and maybe I will consider keeping one of these medals instead of unlocking a challenger.

New challengers are always a lot of fun for us and hard work for staff. Thank you again for making this site awesome. We do appreciate it. Now off to finish the last five wins for the last Hydra.
Anybody know how long these will be around? Are they going away when Masq ends? Because I'm too busy dancing to fight. :)

I managed 5 wins against the Five-Head Panzer Hydra with my Kurama. That's as far as I get...

I am a battle newb, and I am wondering why when I try using a truth serum on this challenger, the weapon I "steal" isn't available for me to use?

The one thing I don't really understand though is: Why do I win a Tier 11 weapon from a chellenger that I at least need a Tier 12 for, if not more? It's always like that it seems.

While I love this challenger, got up to 5 defeats on 5 heads so far, but really hoping for steamwork Ghostly ;-; Welp, maybe next year. Still, pretty cool and fun challenger so thank you ! XD

Interesting there isn't an achievement for beating the very final stage 10 times, but that might be a place to put the trophy medals in :)

@Speiro (like seriously it took me an hour to get the achievements to work tonight and I still managed to break the one for like three minutes, they're coded for the old system and it's just A MESS so if we did something else with them it would mean more coding than just having an item unlock because that's easy at least)
@Amber - The TC issue seems to come up every time there's an achievement prize that unlocks a challenger. Would it be possible to cut out the middle man make it so earning the achievement automatically unlocks the next challenger? We have achievements that reward forum titles and site themes, so it seems like it could be feasible.

Given that the heads increase by two each time on the challenger, there is a serious lack of "cut off one head, two more shall take its place" in the flavor text for the medals that unlock the new challenger. I'll assume it's coded in there subliminally. It is Hydra, after all. =D

As I've said many times before, we shouldn't have to choose between fighting an opponent and having a TC item.
It also makes people suggest the same thing be created more than once, when we've already had easy access to one previously. Adding fire to that, we can't buy these items (understandable !), so...

What are the stats for the 3rd challenger? The jump from the 1st one to the 2nd was pretty big so I don't want to waste the medal on an opponent my battle pet doesn't stand a chance against. ;__;

Don't think Pinions will be able to tackle any higher than the 3 Headed Panzer Hydra, but this is a super neat way to do an incremental challenger!

@Nik If you did them after I pushed the change, it might just be cache on the achievement page! Remember it takes a bit to register sometimes (like when you put things in your wardrobe or plushie collection and have to give it a sceond before it realizes)
It's a bit of a jump to go from 25 all around to 750 all around, imo. I thought I'd be able to use my t4 pet for the second iteration, but... I guess not.
