Would someone be kind enough to explain this rule in the image guidelines: "Your item and overlay images should both have a minimum of 3-5 layers of shading." I'm kind of old school, so shading to me means for shadows. Does it mean highlights and shadows to provide the appearance of depth, or does it mean 3-5 variations of your color spectrum? I'd like to participate, but I'm not ultra current in the world of graphic arts and coding.

@Petinho
Yes, so long as they are different items you can submit things by an artist that's submitting their own items.

Is it ok to submit comissioned items if the artist is also a Subeta user AND is also submitting their own items? Like userA submits 3 items created by userB while userB is also submitting their own 3 items? Assuming of course they're six different designs...

@Valiska You get them from beating up Nightshade. Either 5 or 10 times. And nope, I think they only come in yellow.

Darn, I got so excited because I have IDEAS. But sadly, I don't have the means or the talent to submit pieces according to the Custom Wearable requirements :(

I'm also very confused as to how you could even tie nipples in with a masquerade. Eyes and lips and stuff could be done as "makeup" or whatever but nipples? I don't think this is that kind of masked ball, personally. Unless the staff have some very big surprises in store for us this year...

Romantic
Serious question: could nipples be submitted? I know Subeta is PG13 and we've had pasty/piercing items before but sometimes I don't want a doll chest

here to also say that we should get to pick 3 at the least. our opinions matter a bit more than a measles 10% :joy:

I would have loved to enter if it was a 'concept' type entry (i don't have a tablet or very good digital art talents in general, all I've got is my rudimentary hand drawn skillz), but alas i will sit out and just enjoy voting i guess ;-; Besides, I have a total of zero ideas off the top of my head (even tho I LOVE Masq! HyPE) and I don't really want to bother someone with a commission in so little time...but yay user submitted content for my fave event is still exciting!
Maybe if we got a tiny participation prize for voting, that might assuage the sting of not being able to enter the contest itself...but I'm not greedy and I'll still be voting nonetheless c:
Thanks team for the chance and good luck to all the people entering

Ooh, this looks like fun! Quick question: if our designs don't win will we be able to submit them as regular CW after the contest?

@Whitemoon
They need to be digital, they're looking for fully done wearables and items that meet all the same standards that apply to any CW before it's accepted to the site.
If you're still interested, you can find the fullsize bases here:
male - female
They are always linked on this page here, for future reference!

So Masquerade is starting on the 29th or...?
And leave Adriette and her lopsided titties ALONE.

@Valiska have you tried using ?
They're not cold/angry like the snake contacts, and they're smaller and less ridiculous novelty than the cat contacts.

@Kandarhrin like almost no one is perfectly semtryical!
We all have different sizes everything. Like one of my legs is shorter than the other.
But it's just awkward looking in the art, especially with so much clevevage showing.

@Puncture well at least she's realistic, lol. I don't think I've ever met a woman with perfectly symmetrical natural breasts, my lefty is about half a cup larger than the other one, it used to be closer to a full cup till I had a growth spurt in that region in my mid twenties.
5
Puncture
@Kandarhrin it is a bit much lololol.
But I can't stop seeing the right side bigger than the left and it looks odd.

Tbh I'm weirdly bothered by the boobs in the first place, they just seems so overly sexualised, especially with her pose. The character design feels very much like it's catering to a certain type of dude to me, like she's just there to be boobs for decoration. Meh, maybe that's just me being weird and awkward though, I know that many women are comfortable displaying their chest like that and that there is nothing wrong with it.

@Ambition I do enjoy both I suppose, but I like historical more, especially when they don't put clock parts/gears all over the items as if we couldn't tell it was steampunk otherwise!
Another thing we could use on the historical side of the divide is more hair for Cavalier/Musketeer/Romantic/Byronic/1970s male/butch/unisex avatars--styles that are longer in the back and on the sides, cover the ears, but show the eyes, with any ponytails or braids or buns or bows coming from the nape of the neck instead of the top of the head.
Currently most dudely/butch Masq hair is either spikey and long in the front and in the avatar's eyes, with shaven sides and short in the back. Or dreads. Or that short-part-down-the-middle Nikola Tesla hair with a stache you could use as a crowbar.

since it says "Atebus Revolution Masquerade," does that mean the item has to be space themed? Or is it just in general related to masquerade like steamwork and cyberpunk stuff?

My tablet broke at the beginning of the month and I need to wait until payday to order a new one (which is typically the 29th) so have just brought the cheapest one I could find on amazon for £20 free delivery tomorrow lol Not sure I’ll be able to create anything but I wanna try and give it a go as it’s been ages since I’ve drawn a CW.

Such a short amount of time for a deadline. Kinda ridiculous. Oh well, good luck to everyone who is able to participate!!!  Now let's see those user submitted official itemsssssss

Are we allowed to make our designs traditionally, or does it have to be digital only? And where can we get the female and male HA bases, anyway?
1
EmCee
So I think this is a great idea. I always have and will but I wish more notice was given. Not sure if there was another announcement but it might've allowed for more people to participate with a longer deadline.
I wish everyone the best of luck and can't wait to see what you design .

I'm a little confused about how this works... do we have to draw the items in Subeta style?

10 winning designs in the span of one week? Very optimistic.
But looking forward to the facial feature ones. :3

I do think this is a cool idea, but I also agree that at least two or three winners should be chosen by users.

After the mess of last time, I thought this wouldn't happen again, but I'm glad it is. I'm looking forward to seeing everything and even voting. Would like to see another chance for artistically challenged people like me, to participate in something as well with a fun prize :) Bring in the dancing, I'm ready to swing with multiple partners.

StarShadow
Very cool idea. Too bad I have no clue how to make a CW to get the achievement. But good luck to the rest of you. SO anxious for masquerade to start! ;)

Good luck to anyone who enters! I do hope any contests like this in the future allow for concept art and designs to be submitted. There are a lot of creative users who likely feel left out because they can't meet subeta's CW standards, myself included.

Looking forward to seeing what y'all come up with! So many talented artists on here! Good luck everyone!

I'm so happy you decided to do this again, it was one of the things I thought was a great idea, but it hasn't been used as often as it could be.

Laurey
I agree that maybe having 2 or 3 user chosen winners instead of just one would be nice. But I also understand staff's reasoning for not having all of them user-chosen is to probably ensure some sort of variety, instead of ending up with all of the winners being slight variations of basically the same thing or something.
Ah well, I'm looking forward to seeing the entries and winners anyway. :)

Is this only for artists? Or could I submit my untalented little drawing of a good idea, aka with intent for the actual site artists to redraw it? Or like...does this already need to be a perfect, site-ready submission? =|

Opossun
Quick question, but are we allowed to share our process of drawing with friends and stuff? ;v; Like, showing the start of it and the final product? (Sorry for the noob question, i have 0 experience oof)

Also, with all the kitty booties and ears floating around, it'd be nice to have some cat eyes that are not so freaky oversized you can't use them with normal noses or makeups. <3

I have ideas but no talent... or funds to commission people. Oh well. I can’t wait to see what those who enter come up with! Good luck!

@Ambition Personally I think there should be at least 2 user-chosen winners, because there are two very different aesthetics in play that deserve their own categories.
If there's only one user-chosen winner, either those with a strong preference for historically-inspired ruffles and lace or those with a strong preference for candy-cyber-emo stuff are going to be disappointed. They don't always combine very well.
(I've wondered why there's not two shops, like there are for Survival, to showcase each aesthetic.)

Yay! I'm so excited about this contest! I'm looking forward to the entries and the designs. I really hope one of them will involve those CW kitty bottoms like I've seen users wearing.

Good luck the CW artists. Make some neato stuff for us this year, okay? Maybe look at the suggestions for masquerade listing in the forums? *hint hint*

Do they have to be 'features' as in... bodyparts? Clothes? No backgrounds or whatever? /puzzled

Mouths /lips would be something I have some ideas
but...
not an artist!
Good luck to our talented artists!

But this is exciting. Y'all are so damned skilled and create such pretty items, I cannot wait to see what you do !

@Evy Maybe they could bring back the participation prizes in the Crystal Shop or Millionaire Centre after a while, so other uses have a chance to get them? We have a whole thread in the forums for hard-to-get items that were only rewarded once or something that we would like the chance to get again.

I personally am not quite talented enough to enter (as much as I'd like to be); but I'm.so exicted to see what everyone comes up with! Good luck, CW artists! <3

Just for the sake of clarification: does "participation prize" mean for all entries that are submitted, or only the eligible ones that didn't end up in the top 10? Aka can the non-artists submit a stick figure with a skirt on to get the prize? :P
9
Sneaky
@METEORA I think it should start tomorrow or Saturday, and the winning items will be added in Wave 2

I wish I could draw to standard Subeta style :o does this mean Masq starts soon, or will we be waiting another week :o

Hmmmmm. I might actually enter this one, provided I can get my tablet working properly.

Just clarifying- is this a DESIGN contest or a CW contest like we've had before? Are people still encouraged to submit a design even if it's below the normal art standards and will need to be redrawn by staff or are you looking for fully finished ready-to-submit pieces?
15
Lanfan
this could be interesting! I always wanted to try out making cws but submitting them is expensive. thanks staff!

i wonder... is this deadline before the masquerade starts, or before wave 2 of the shop items? :0

Well we only get to pick 1? That is lame... It should bed we pick at least 3!! I thought we the people mattered more than just the handful of staff people? I'm not saying we don't love all the efforts and hard work of the staff people, I just think that the overall user-base might actually pick different things than the staff people.
