The quality is better, but the lining itself doesn't show that. I really like what's happening to the Otter, I just think it can be portrayed better. DesetLai, we're allowed to be picky if our pets which we put a lot of time and sP into are going to be changed into something we don't want. i've already had to give up one pet because the redraw was just awful for me, i don't want to loose my Spectrum Otter as well. (and i fear for the day the Hydrus Dragons change <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/smiley_sadface.gif border=0>)

DesertLai, sweetheart. You missed a few things. They leave the comments here open to get constructive criticism on the revamp itself. I don't know why in all the world you are so against it, but the artists here want to hear our opinions before revamping a pet. I think it's good, because sometimes, the artist cannot see that he/she made a smaller mistake on their work unless someone kindly points it out. Then, the artist can decide whether he/she wants to fix the small flaw, or keep it the way it is. We do not force the artist to do this or that. At least I believe that the majority refrains from that. The artist decides on her/his own what they want to do with the image in accord to the feedback received.

Well, 'are you guys artistically blind' wasn't very direct. It is a general statement, and you tecnically do not have to be an artist to know when things are off. Many art crittics are not artists themselves. If this site catered to only artists, more than half the population would disappear, despite them knowing a thing or two about what art is about.

Amazing. A revamp I actually really like. The only criticism that I've seen that seems like a big deal to me is how "cramped" it looks, and the expression on the old one was less generic.
I know it's probably not the look you're going for, but you guys should have an artist with a less "cutesy" style that draws some pets. I'd volunteer, but I work by mouse currently.

I like this one a lot better. I just think (on both versions, actually) that the face is a little too far down on the head.

As an art piece, I think it's wonderful. The shading is done well, the expression is nice, the proportions seem correct, and the colors are vivid and pretty. However, as an otter redraw, I'm not too fond of it. The redraw doesn't quite capture the otters innocent confused look, nor does it look as cuddly as I feel it should. The tail has lost that kind of big, squishy vibe. There's also something about the spots that just isn't working for me. (I do love the new Galactic Otter, though. I'm still sad I missed it.)

I think the old one looked better myself. I loved the eyes and the expression on its face. That, and this new otter looks like it's cramped in some kind of invisible box...the whole left side of its body seems to be hitting a wall that isn't there...^^;

DesetLai, just because everyone doesn't agree with you does not mean we are artistically BLIND. r_r'; Not everyone has the same opinions, and the better part of us are trying to help out and put in our own opinions. I may not put my work in the glitchy galleries, but I know enough about artwork to say that the artist here has potential to make this a good revamp, BUT has major flaws that need to be worked out before this could happen.

DesetLai, I don't see how it's constructive to tell people they are artistically blind because they don't share the same opinion as you. At least those who don't like the redraw pointed out their very considered reasons WHY they don't like it, which is a lot better, IMO, than sayng OMG I love it it's amazing, or OMG I hate it it looks awful, without providing reasons or providing only extremely vague reasoning.

Hmmm...welll.... I don't like it. But then I don't like the old one either. But the new one is too rangy-looking, and the long thin tail with the flipper at the end doesn't work for me. I prefer a rounder look, to me the muzzle is too narrow and protruding and the fur tufts everywhere break up the nice smooth lines. I agree with what another person said, the galactic otter looks better to me... I think it would be cuter in that pose than the current pose, actually. Actually now that I think of it, the new otter reminds me of an aquatic manchu, which is probably why I don't care for it <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_raspberry.gif border=0>

Do not call people artistically blind. Just because you like it because it's updated and pretty, does not mean everyone else is 'blind'. The fact you like it is your opinion. Many of us have given constructive criticism as to why we don't like it as much as you do. I don't care who is or who is not an artist, everyone needs criticism to improve. Plus we're given the option to voice our opinions, and for that I am grateful.
I like the shading on the new otter and the body but I think the nose should be changed alittle. Other then the nose it looks great ^^
Aw how adorable! I hate how people are being more and more negative with every new revamp... How can this NOT be an improvement? The old one is so outdated and boring. I'd really hate to be an artist for this website with the responses some people give to their work.

Tuffs of fur? I thought that Radioactive water had affected the otter and given them all Boobs... Am I wrong?
I think that the head needs to be redone. Any chance in makeing its face more like the Galatic one?
DesetLai - An artistically blind person would actually just pay attention to the pretty coloring and shading and not notice any of the flaws at all ;P I worked at Subeta for over a year, which really helped me point out the good and the bad in a revamp instead of go "OMG PRETTY" at the first sight of one.
Another point I'd like to add - I seem to get the vibe from it that since people were so in awe about the Galactic Otter, that you guys decided to rush a revamp of it with the same characteristics. XD I think if you give the wrist a little bend and show a little pad you'll cover what the other users wrote before me about the feets? I didn't even notice some of these things earlier, but they've already mostly been pointed out. I think the forehead does look as if it needs to be a bit smaller, or the eyes, perhaps, a little bit bigger. While I think the eyes look fine as they are, I think what PaintedSavages mentioned would give it that cutesy look that several users are so fond of.

The tail, I think, should be more like the old Otter's. The shading gives that 3D illusion, and it looks less stiff compared to this one, which makes it look as though the Ontra is wearing a fake tail. o0

Maybe if you made the body a little smaller (okay, a lot) smoothed out the tail and fur, then redid the eyes (spectrum's is a good one) removed the eyebrows, resized the freckles (basically, chibi-ify it again) I'd be content.

I honestly would be very dissapointed if my otter was replaced by this new version- i just dislike it. Its much to.. pointy. i feel like it's not as cute nor as soft and smooth as the old version. i really would like to see this re-vamp redone to be made more like the roundness of the old otter. I don't like how this one has so much fuzz bits either- it just looks to pointy and sharp in my opinion.
Usually I vote new for revamps, but something about this just.. bothers me. : / I have some issues with the anatomy, but people have already covered them and the body doesn't bother me as much as the face- it went from look almost infantlike to looking like an old man. o__O; I like the eyes and smile though.

As far as the freckles - which is how I shall refer to them - they /are/ wrong, but I cannot say why. Theyre just...off. Yanno? As far as eyes, perhaps make the blue part larger in the white field and add more shine to get it closer to the old otters personallity look? Also eyebrows a little lower to bring down the brow some? They kinda seem to float off toward the middle of his cranium rather than being eyebrows. I understand you were trying to brighten and open the face up some by raising them but maybe dropping them down some and enlarging the eye size itself as well as my afore mentioned blue on white comment may help get it more open. Lastly concerning eyes and Im done... try making the lines around the outside of the eye itself twice as thick. Instead of it being the same uniform thickness as the body lines. I find when Im drawing to make the eye lines a little thicker than the rest of the lines and it really makes a HUGE difference and draws the eye (of the looker not the drawing) to it. I don't like the new one either. The old one makes me say 'Aww, how cute' while this new one doesn't. I do agree the tail is too thin. Looks more like a reg (dog?) tail with a flipper stuck on the end of it. A revamp is good, but this one doesn't seem quite it.
I liked the more cartoonish approach to the current otter. I would not like to see it replaced with that revamp.

I admit this revamp is a bit drastic...and I do think it's eyes are a bit to small...and to me the forehead looks a bit big too...but the revamp does make it fit more into the subeta art style. All in all, it's a cute drawing, and even if I voted new I'd still like to see it drawn a bit better...it doesn't really have the old Otter "spirit" like the other one has.
