You know - I debated for 2 hours or so whether or not it was looking for futharks, since most of them are called futhark, but never once did I see them being referred to as the futharks. I eventually decided I was overthinking it like I usually do, and reread the question for a possibly much simpler answer - and decided it was supposed to be just Runes. hahaha - I still managed to overthink myself into a box! Oh, the irony!<br /><br />
I noticed the submitter for this one chose to remain anonymous - I would have too, otherwise I'd fear being lynched by an angry mob! XD But the submitter is right - with the proper research, the answer can be found. That is NOT to say this is EASY, because it is NOT! LOL, I meant that's what the no article part meant. The informal part means that she doesn't want the full, formal name of the diphthong phoneme. She just wants the name everyone uses, lol.

I believe I've found most likely where this question originated from...I don't agree with it, but the question is pretty clear.
Hmm, I'm not convinced that's what they meant by informal, but that's all I'm going to say because I don't want to be accused of giving hints. I too found two possible answers. sigh This is why I HATE non-Subeta related trivia. The internet is a huge place to look for information and with so many sources there is always variations in information. Bleh.
For me, this was a case of finding the answer only in the definition of the answer. I found that answer completely by accident.

Temarikun, there is only one way to write out owl in phonetics by IPA standards! And they don't ask about the l anyway, they asked about the diphtong!
