Mar it means no The ,And, A in front of the word. .. Means just the word - answer by it's self.
Would it be possible to ask what it means by "no article", or would that be considered part of the answer?
I love these! Lots of research and what-not. Plus it helps to have a mom that works in Special Ed and that knows people who are ENglish Majors and Phonics teachers!

The PROPER real name is what I put.. anyone whom actually uses runes in RL should know that. ..... but noooo I get it wrong all because whomever felt that "elders" wasn't part of the name.. ........Some of these trivias make me wanna kill someone.... Well i got the last trivia right i hope this one is right also....If not i will just cry and try another trivia
ehh, there seems to be some complaint that the intro to this trivia was sarcastic...I don't see it that way. Not every comment is meant with an insult, nor should they be taken so. And to the creator of this one, nicely challenging, well done!

The most clearly worded trivia ever and I still find two answers. o.o;; I just really want that feather. -wails- And I actually went and checked out the Handbook of the IPA, which tells me a different informal name than what I found online, so it isn't a matter of just picking the obvious one. -____-

It doesn't matter what it's a combination of, Futhark is plural, like deer. And Alphabet is only suplimented with an S when talking about multiple standard sets of letters. Indeed, we say "This is the alphabet," not "This is the alphabets."
This is difficult. Thank goodness my mom is a phonics teacher, she explained the whole question to me. Though she has a few questions about it too, because phonics can be taught in many different ways.<p>

My question is that do you consider 'owl', ow-l or just owl as a whole? In regards to phonics, most people consider it 'owl' when it can actually be 'ow-l', with two sounds in it.<p>

well alphabet is a combination of our first two letters. alpha and beta, so are you saying you don't add an s to alphabet?

I agree. Futhark IS plural without the S....It represents the first six letters.
It won't have been the first time people have guessed in exhaustion, then. I honestly think a surprisingly large number of people have found the right answer to this one; it just takes a bit of research and determinination, which is fair considering that this is a repeat prize. <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>

The fact that nearly a thousand people have answered (and several have commented to indicate that they arrived at what they feel is a right answer) with barely a quarter of a day having passed leads me to believe that indeed, it did give people better odds. <img src=http://www.subetax.org/images/smilies/6398_emoticon_smile.gif border=0>
