Welcome the Zasaba!
Spring flowers have appeared all over Shengui Guo and with them, something quite special - the Zasaba! Zasaba eggs hatch around the time of "flower-viewing", and it's said that the one that spots the first hatchling in an area is considered to have great luck for the rest of the year.
Inhabitants of Shengui Guo have raised these insect pets for many years now, and as they were aware of their imminent arrival, were able to work with the Create-A-Pet Center to bring them to you!
Keep a look out for more Zasaba related things this week!

Yay mantis wasp bug. :D I like the weave pattern on its abdomen - I hope we get a colour where more of it is visible.
The funny part about this to me is that I just got a pet praying mantis about a month ago and it looks a lot like the marsh one! Go figure haha

the more I look at these the more they tend to put me in mind of the Priest Kings from the Gor books or the Choja from the Riftwar Cycle books

to me it does resemble the ruki quite a bit but i used to love the rukis, so i am glad subeta got one. good job on this i like the purple/ pink one best look forward to extra colors!

As a person who detests bugs and insects and had bad memories with insects, my answer is just a simple word: Ewww.... This species is something I definitely won't adopt.
But the design, with the exception of the face are looks quite OK. Two details I like are: the shield-like pauldrons and the wings. So great job on the artist for that.

They're absolutely gorgeous! My favorite colors are Common and Aqua.
Also, I don't understand why people are saying they look too much like Rukis? They're look nothing alike asides from being based on the same creature...

Dont think it looks like the ruki from neopets. That thing looks like a cheesy human/bug hybrid of cringe. I think this looks like a bug. A cute, praying mantis bug. I personally like it. Reading some of the comments had me so "eh" like people are desperately searching to find something wrong with it (i mean you cant please everyone)... Sometimes you have to remember someone put time into drawing/making this and I think the artist did a great job! Bug lovers rejoice!
I'm really not into bugs (and I mean really) but I must comment on how beautifully done these are! Fantastic job to the artist!

It's heartwarming to see so many fawn over an insect pet that ACTUALLY FREAKING RESEMBLES AN INSECT. So many arthropods in other games, pet sites, cartoons and movies have those awful cartoon human faces on them, as if that's supposed to be cute, when it just looks uncanny and jarring.
Interestingly, the Zasaba's facial anatomy appears to be that of a hornet, rather than a mantis, making it a hybrid insect. The antennae are especially those of a Hymenopteran.

bugs!! ahh, I'm in love with this pet. The common color is super pretty, but all the others are very nice too. Love the twilight and aqua.
I will say, however, that the Zasaba is no where near the fugly Ruki on Neopets XD It's a billion times better and way different XD
In all honesty, I was at least hoping for a cricket as crickets are extremely lucky in Chinese lore. A mantis-like pet, however, I'm not so sure about x_x I was really hoping for a gorgeous butterfly or moth from Shengui at least over a mantis (which left me very disappointed). Oh well. Like someone said, something for everyone. Not everyone likes fluffy pets.
Looks like maybe it's crossed with some ant DNA? It's neat, but it's not something I need.

Oh I really like these, even though I'm not a huge bug fan. Kind of wish I hadn't filled my last pet slot already (yeah I can buy one but meh).

Oh my god, one of my favorite critters from the insect world. It makes me absolutely giddy to finally see one of my favorite species as a Subeta pet! Not sure if I have any room for him, but I might dabble and find a pet of mine that I want to change into a Zasaba.

These are cute! Something about the face seems a little off to me, not sure whether it's the eyes or the mouth area but thats just a personal tick. Really nice color scheme for common!
I like how well incorporated the colors are in all the markings! Really shows off the accents of all the basic color schemes
Also I disagree with all the Ruki comparisons: they're similar only in that they're both mantis-based. The Zasaba is more elegant and also retains more of the features that make mantises beautiful and visually interesting, instead of being... some kind of weird alienbugtaur? (The ruki was hideous, tbh.)

Yup, it does remind me way too much of a certain other pet, but, like everything else, Subeta's version is better. I'm not gonna jump out and get one right away, but I am excited to see new poses for other colors! Maybe I'll start seeing a Zasaba (super fun name!) when I see a bit of personality shine through. The common color is quite beautiful ♥️

It figures...I use up the pet slot I saved up for forever and the next day...mantises. headdesk It will only be the next Ice Age before I can afford the next one. But, anyway, these look great. I love mantises and and it's nice to see more bugs :)

When I first saw the new pet. I instantly thought of a Ruki. I just saw someone post the same thing. I like both though. Can't wait to see Nightmare, Bloodred, and Spectrum versions.

The face looks like a feline/canine muzzle (the triangle 'nose' with 2 circles) and I can't unsee it now!!

Oooh, very nice. I like its name, and the design is very fitting for an insect pet. While I would never get one (I don't have any characters that would fit an insect theme), it's nice that the Ilumis has an insect companion, finally. Really nice coloring on it as well, and I can't wait to see it in Storm and Glade! (Which I assume one of those is going to happen soon because Vesnali is coming up).
Mantises are awesome insects. They protect all my plants from those nasty grasshoppers. Awesome pet.

A little put off by the "mustashe" but otherwise, despite a rather complex design, I think they'll be widely welcomed and loved. n_n

I'm so excited to this! Can you make a glade version based on the orchid mantis or is the dawn too close already?
I'm not sure I'm in a rush to go out and get one, but these are really cool and a great addition!
