Data Breach!
It's come to our attention that another site pet site that our users frequently play on had a security breach that included usernames and passwords, so we'd like to take this opportunity to remind you to:
1. Have a different password for every site! We recommend using a password manager to automatically generate passwords, but even changing the last letter is more secure than using the same password on every site.
2. Change your passwords once a year, or even more often!
If you used the same username/password combination as you did on that site, we recommend changing your password immediately.

I haven't been on Neo in forever but I can say that I know my subeta pw is very much different from my Neo PW.. had to change it before on here because of some sort of issue
Gonna change my pw, never felt the need to change it on here before but I do have some really nice high end ucs on neo and have been locked out there before. Funny how I have an older subeta account and never once felt a threat and on neo I have to change my pw and pin weekly cause my pets are worth a lot on the black market. So sad.
Man, this just reminds me that my long-lost/forgotten 1st account is out there somewhere :c

-_-' Sad but glad that I forgot my login for that site long ago. It was fun, but it got too hard to function on, and I had lost all of the hard work I had put into it for years. Without my original accounts, it wasn't worth it starting over.

What really bugs me is that they NEVER informed anyone in 2012 to change pw and be alert. Why inform 3 years LATER that they had a breach and now change the pw. Something is really fishy with the people running the site
Oh so this breach happened years ago? Guess now I know how my UC ended up on some frozen account. Don't really care, that site has been dead to me for a good while now.

My main was hacked and frozen back in 2006,while on a long hiatus.Also,some asshat must have changed my email and pw back in 2012 to my side,because when I sent for my pw a few years ago,I never got an email.So,everything I worked for is pretty much dead and gone anyways.

I came back after years. Everthing is the same! Subeta is still awesome and Neopets is still... a site of bugs, problems and rules no one likes ^^
I haven't been able to get into mine for years. :'D My original email is still registered to the account, but the reset emails never come through. Though, to be perfectly honest, I'm not even sure that particular email service still works beyond being able to log in.
I also went on Neopets, but I usually change the numbers on my username each time I make a new account with such a name, and I have a different password to use with it accordingly;)

Anyway, I left years ago, ever since they rebooted the system and security preferences, or whatever if was that needed the confirmation of your email address. On top of that, the items for anything were either too hard to get, like, EVER, or way to expensive or exclusive to purchase, especially for event shops.

@ShortAxel What I understood from their facebook, they had an incident in 2012 that caused an incident now? It sounds like they didn't fix everything back then and it caused another security breech.
It's been years since I have been on Neopets. Like, 13 years maybe? I had an account I had spent so much time on. Pets that were all painted and I had a huge "minion" gallery. Lots of expensive items. Tried to log on one day and found I had been frozen. I tried and tried to get my account back but the admins wouldnt even give me a reason as to why I had been frozen. Apparently something I had said on a forum, but they couldn't even tell me what that was. I was so upset. I am really thankful Subeta is not ran by a bunch of idiots.
I don't play that game anymore, but I did change my password, just in case. Thank you for warning us about this!
Thank you very much for the warning! I used to be on that site, nearly 10 years ago, but I left it for good when I found Subeta and I'm still very happy with that decision. Still, I did have an account there and I don't even remember whether it had the same name and password and whether that account even still exists, but I went and changed it now for Subeta, just in case.
Thank you, if subeta didnt lock me out of my account(not frozen, password no longer works nor did they help me in getting back in) I probably still wouldnt care much. Left that site for this one, never looked back. Thanks for keeping our accounts safe <3

So what exactly happened with Neopets? I don't want to post from my Facebook but I'm trying to figure out if this was recent or from 2012. Its not entirely clear to me.
To think I quit that site back in early 2011 for almost the exact same reasons (the security there sucks so bad). I am definitely going to take precautions here (though I no longer care about whether or not my account over there stays active or not).
Oh THAT site. I was a known flash game cheater over there (According to the bots).

Have to agree, hope the site crumbles. After they froze me with no creditable reason and finally told me to just deal with it, I have little sympathy for them. Still a good head's up to check passwords in general.
I had an account on that site for 12 years, which required an elaborate set of passwords and pins, separate email accounts, a detailed history of password changes for the last two years, and I had to constantly use an add-on called NoScript to prevent cookie grabbing. STILL, I logged in one day to find my pets had been stolen. I couldn't believe it. Despite my meticulous record keeping, the staff couldn't help me without the email address I had used to create my account over ten years ago... when I was in the 4th grade.
Good riddance to that site. It's so not worth it.

Neopets hat security issues some good times. Oh it's been a few years I don't play it. Subeta turned out to be more addicting to me. I need to remind myself of my account name there, lol! Not going to even login there if I remember it, until this security issue is solved. Not an easy time I'd say.

Wow thanks for letting us know! I didn't get any mail from them- maybe Neo is getting pushed into my spam box. :/ I don't think I've been compromised though. Might as well take this time to update all my passwords for everything.
I personally really appreciate the heads up, it's always important to remind people about account security anyway, so it's not hurting anyone to make a note of this. Actually it seems really mature, especially compared to way back when when it was against Subeta rules to even type out the word neopets anywhere. Good on you guys, I really appreciate it.

I really feel for all you guys who have lost stuff on your other accounts. I may not care for that site anymore, heck, I don't even remember what my username mighta been so for all I know what I had could be deleted or transferred away, but that doesn't mean I can't sympathize for those who do actually still care for the site. I hope you guys manage to get your stuff back in order. It just makes me glad I play here on Subeta, we so very rarely, if ever have these kinds of issues. Heck, even after 4 years of full inactivity my account and everything in it was exactly as I left it and ready for me to come right back as I have.
Thanks for the heads up (and the mild heart attack, tbh). I actually get on Neo daily and haven't noticed anything fishy, but I went ahead and changed my passwords anyway. Seems as though if something had happened to my accounts I'd already know it. (Sorry to those of you who it seems have had something happen!) I spent too much on NC to completely abandon that site, even if I only get on to zap one pet and change outfits. I'm much happier here where the staff are transparent and it's not so hyper-regulated.
Personally, I feel this news post is unecessary. I find that they were trying to adress something that happened multiple years ago, the right way, which it never was. I understand that this may affect this site, but lets face it. We all play this site for a reason, and people shouldnt be worried when there is nothing to be worried about.

You know when a site that gets to big that this happens. I have been off of that site close to a year now. I mean I have been on it for a long time a 15 year old account. So I have witnessed that site go to the slumps. Ever since Nick bought it it been going down fast

Also thank you Subeta for putting up details about this. You would think the other pet site might have thought it was WORTH EMAILING PEOPLE WITH AFFECTED ACCOUNTS OVER but apparently that's too much to ask. I wouldn't have even known or thought to check their social media if it wasn't for the message you put up here. I'm sad for what's happening to one of my old accounts, but at least the others were able to be salvaged thanks to you guys!
Well I'm glad mine were safe. I have a uc werelupe and uc grey yurble that were on accounts that I hadn't logged into for a bit. They are all safe. I only stay cause my ucs. lol

Welp, one of my side accounts got stolen on aformentioned pet site. AWESOME lets' see how their ticketing system goes -_- I barely even play there anymore but I kept the accounts alive...it's infuriating and now whoever stole it has a lost password email in their inbox so that's gonna BE GREAT WATCHING THEM TRANSFER EVERYTHING I HAVE ON THERE BEFORE MY EYES BEFORE THEY GET TO MY TICKET.

I used to play on that site, but I stopped when it got sold out to big cooperate, got way too commercial, and things got so strict with rules that it was no longer enjoyable. I love Subeta since it is a much closer community with players and much more intimate to make the pet site experience a lot of fun.
They're saying account security has improved since JS took over, but it would be a lot more confidence-inspiring if they actually gave details.
Rumor has it the only reason neopets hadn't been hacked up to this point was because nobody wanted to. Do keep everything separate from your neopets stuff... even a separate email is a good idea.

Thanks for the heads up... I don't know why I even still have an account over there. It looks the same as it did shortly after I left years ago. Makes me very appreciative of Subeta. It's painful to do anything over there!

I only keep up my account over there because they have far superior games. We have a couple over here that are worth playing, the rest of them not so much. I don't do anything else there and pretty much cleared out my account years ago.
Thanks for the head's up! Thankfully I've changed both passwords since the data breach in 2012...the other one numerous times...and my passwords are a mashup of letters, numbers, and symbols that have no rhyme or reason to them. I just type a bunch of random stuff into notepad, copy, and paste. Outside of a password manager, it's the best way to do it in my opinion!
