Thank you for this release, Subeta. In my eyes, you have not only paid homage to excellent fictional creepy clowns, but you've unintentionally stood by the professional clowns who have been the most negatively impacted by the creepy clown debacle. While I get what retailers are trying to do by pulling clown items off shelves for the duration of this mass hysteria, I feel for all the people whose professions revolve around clowning and its items. Some of them are now facing unpaid rent and hungry bellies just because it's easier for the public to discriminate based on looks than it is for the public to look at this and realize that any crimes committed are because of criminal-minded people, not the garb they're wearing. Subeta, when you chose to release this regardless of recent events, you have shown me that you have not bought into fearful narratives. After all, is the timing ever right for us to demonize and marginalize an entire group of peaceful professionals, just because a few menacing malingerers have worn a similar uniform when choosing to commit crimes?

Hope everyone has a very happy (and safe) Halloween!

Maybe super hero costume stuff for next year? That I would definitely buy.

These items are awesome! Thanks Subeta! <3

Apparently I am one of very few who hears 'clown' and thinks 'circus' and not 'halloween' and 'creepy'?

This is awesome! A tribute to my favorite horror film Killer klowns from outer space. :) I have to get a few of these for my wardrobe asap!

Morticia

Ohhh.. yesss.

And with all those creepy clowns in rl crawling around.. nice.. :)
0

Hyacinth

Going to be 100% honest here. Irl, if you do a scary clown face right, it can creep me out. But I spent 5 minutes staring at these items and they don't scare me at all. Heck, people tell me that I'm too sensitive and easily scared like... this reminds me of how ppl were saying a certain bug pet creeps them out, but that pet doesn't creep me out either. Am I missing something what?...
2

StarShadow

I don't like clowns and have no interest in these but I have to admit the artwork is very nice. I would rather have seen super hero type costume items however.
2

:S
firstly - "I applaud the people that had a civil conversation about it and not just poking fun or replying with gifs..." @xxjanism my thoughts exactly, thank you
ALSO y'all complaining about/dropping snarky comments re: the "lerl zomg typikal subeta drama/crybabbies!!!1!" you all make up like 50% of the drama... stop
4

Wesker

I don't know what's scarier, the clowns or the over 200 comments about them.... I'm going to say the clowns. They are very creepy, especially that bulbous body suit. Nice job with the art!
4

Kulo

The mask and the shoes are creeping me out, but the middle part alone is kind of cute, ahaha.
1

Mythology

@Desilyna

Thank you for pointing that out! They aren't real, all. Not most of them anyway.

L O R D

Some people need to get over themselves...

Clowns have always been associated with halloween. These are amazing, and even though I HATE clowns, the art is so good I may need to get some of them.
15

CaptainTryx

Creepy clowns have been around for a very long time. I don't understand why people think this has anything to do with the creepy clowns that are stalking some towns in America.

The costumes are great.

Quote by @Amber:
We had these because IT was being remade! And then the irl scary clown situation happen after we already had the items :x
Subeta can, and on MANY occasions has delayed the release of items that have been drawn for various reasons. The "we had the items already" excuse is rather weak.
4

Fray

Oh boy, typical subeta. As soon as I saw "237 comments" I knew it would be drama LMFAO

These are really, really good and super creepy! Good job!
13

VERMITHRAXPERJORATIVE

Killer Klowns From Outer Space ! and IT ! And every other scary clown LOL.
1

no

If you find it distasteful, just adblock them, like I have and stfu. Granted, I've adblocked them because clowns scare the everloving shit out of me, but the idea is the same.
12

Carpathia

I'm not loving the global clown craze, but I like that these don't address that. In fact, I'm super happy, not only Dr. Rockso and Pennywise, but the young Michael Myers clown costume is absolute genius. I never would have associated clown costume with the one Michael wears when he kills his older sister as a kid.
4

Bathory

@Amber @Rah I love you guys lol my local beach halloween party is clown themed and one of the big parks uh busch gardens i think their scarefest is clown themed this year.
4

Oh my gerd, Killer Klowns from Outer Space! The 80s had some great horror movies. (And the art for these is spectacular <3 )

I can't believe future historians will actually be studying about the 2016 Clown Crisis. Seriously though, the amount of British teens arrested over this trend is ridiculous.

Obviously Subeta didn't mean this in bad taste. Clowns are a well established horror trope, and Morostide is for horror. Yeah maybe it's bad timing, but...
16

Dadoo-Dattoo

Omg those are amazing!

Also shoo shoo, drama llamas. Clowns are, and have always been a great and classic Halloween costume. Well, at least when people started realizing how creepy they actually are. I mean; Older fellas with a masks or some colorful paint on their faces that hides their identities? Those same older fellas using clothes that hide their body shapes and talk voices that aren't really their own? And don't even let me get started with the grin that's always plastered on their faces...
6

Primistra

Even if you did these before this clown thing happened, I think you shouldn't release them. At least not right now.

That was a good read. I feel like everyone has made their point and explained their feelings.
Whether you find these item's (timing) release distasteful or not, it would be up to you.
I applaud the people that had a civil conversation about it and not just poking fun or replying with gifs...

I feel as if there is nothing else to be said and the comments should be blocked to prevent any further escalation.

No. No. No. No. No. /cries

Also, on a more serious note, wth. I feel bad for subeta having to explain themselves over clown items. Like are y'all for real?

I love these and i'm glad they were released. Evil clowns/jesters are one of my favorite Halloween costumes...i'm disappointed i won't be able to use such a costume this year because i don't want to get beaten up. XP

Desilyna

Clowns are scary, and that is what makes them great for Halloween. Yes, someone dressed up as a clown to scare someone, then I kept hearing stories on Facebook about people hearing about clowns in their areas or that they were going to be. The thing is, almost ALL of those ended up being FAKE stories. If people were attacked by clowns, why wasn't anyone ever hurt? People can dress up as a vampire or a zombie or Michael Myers and chase after someone or scare them, so should those costumes be banned too? It's ridiculous. If you don't want to put the costume on your avatar, then don't. If it bothers you that much, you will probably need to stay home for Halloween because it's almost GUARANTEED that people will be dressing up as clowns.
21

Paradise

Lol, I was thinking to myself "Why are there over 200 comments on a news post about clown items?" But of course, drama.

Say what you will, these items are not in poor taste. It is halloween time and clowns have been associated with halloween for ages. There was not some mass clown massacre or something that staff needed to be sensative about. Just some idiots being idiots on the street. Staff, you shouldn't be getting flack about this, carry on. If people want to be upset, they should be upset for real clowns that are losing jobs over this, not pixels.
43

Aztec

90% of the people in the clown costumes are just people fucking around and jumping on a prank bandwagon - and hell, the whole thing might have started as an It marketing campaign.

Chill, people. Chill

It all started with Pagliacci...

"Ridi, Pagliaccio, Sul tuo amore'in fronto

All at once there's a bad guy in a clown suit.
Ain't Haller-ween, that's for shore.
Then this here feller, this Punchy Neller,
Begins to beller -- Like we all was deef.

"Ha ha ha ha ha!" (scary laugh)

Then ol' PAL-YAT-CHEE finds the guy he's seekin'
Cheek-to-cheekin' with his wife, he grabs a knife
And stabs the louse who stole his spouse,
An' then he stabs another lady and himself - tain't very sanitary.
They all collapse, but ol' PAL-YAT-CHEE sets up,
Then he gets up, sings "I'm dyin',
I am dyin', I am dyin'." We start cryin'
'Cause to tell the truth, we're dyin' too.

So...No thanks...nope, nope, nope....nope!

(lyrics by Homer and Jethro and Spike Jones)

*stomps feet and whines* I heart this thing that happened somewhere on tumblr a few times i think or maybe once or maybe evERWHERE SO STOP eveyrthing that can possibly be related to it even if loosely.
11

Metaphor

If people have been actually hurt by the clowns, that is truly unfortunate. But what has been said is true: it's not the fault of the concept of clowns, it's the people ruining them. If Subeta made reference to the current issue, then I could see how that could be seen as distasteful, but they did not. They simply released Morostide items as scheduled. I am sorry if you are rubbed the wrong way, but I don't think that was intended. Subeta has had scary clown items consistently for Morostide and beyond, and it was never a problem, because again, it's not the clowns. It's people being stupid.

NOOOOOOPPE. Ronald McDonald already gives me nightmares. ;n; Someone in a clown costume was just arrested in my area last week.... the fear is real. DX That said these are very well made! But give me ghosts and vampires over clowns any day. XD
2

Lirikai

The art is fantastic.

But noooooope. Not for me, nope.
1

thinking_kiwi

Well... I knew the comments would be raging on about these!
If it were me, I would have avoided releasing them this year though, because I know people will get mad about it and I'd just want to avoid all the drama. People will associate these items with the occurrences, there are people who may be offended by it, there are people who are completely okay with it. The mods have already said it wasn't their intention to make fun of the situation! I think these are really well made, even though I'm not getting them because I don't like creepy clowns.
1

Dramatic

"We all float down here!" Yes! I love It!
4

Kellijuana

@Jasper I'm sorry you felt anyone was being pretentious, I didn't read into most of that in that tone :/ This has all happened before, (don't forget the phantom clowns of the 80s) just never with the high permeation and instant gratification of social media. So one thing to keep in mind, the hysteria is becoming more of a problem than the idiots wearing the suits. The boy who got hit by a car, he was the one wearing the clown suit. Though the police didn't think he was out trying to scare anyone or that the people got scared and tried to hit him so it was apparently all a coincidence... Another lady thought she saw a clown on her street and when the husband yelled, they didn't stop so he got out is AR15 and shot into the air.... it was a lady walking her dog. The jerks trying to scare people are bad, but the side effect of fear is a big problem.
9

Jai

True story. I was on the phone a couple of weeks ago with the tech coordinator at a high school and he said, "I gotta go. They're locking down the school because of a clown threat." Seriously.
While I don't think this was done intentionally to be distasteful, I have to admit that I'm side-eyeing it just a bit. There have been several arrests here of folks dressing up as clowns and making threats.

Die_232

Open carry- I walk softly and carry a big stick LOL

Have a kitty.

4

Jasper

@Die I never attacked you. I contested your opinion and pointed out that you missed the point, which you did, however, your initial comment was quite... inflammatory. You assumed people were living in bubbles due to fear and didn't understand why they allowed "some jerks" to rule their lives. Not everyone is an advocate of open carry, like you are and not everyone has the luxury of being brash. They have their reasons and you shouldn't denounce (or rather attack) them because of that.
4

Cheshire

No thank you! I will spend my points on other things XDD
0

Die_232

@Jasper Maybe because you attacked me personally for my opinions. I am done with this, it's not worth getting a warning over because some people are... ahem, overreacting.

8

Amber

@Laurey Yeah! That’s why the hair/face doesn’t generally change, so people can tell it’s obviously a costume. The thor one is going to be great, haha. I WISH WE HAD A LOVELY YELLOW DRESS SO HE COULD BE BEYONCE. I’m also going to try Robin, too. get some spandex goin’ for good ol’ subetateam.
4

Jasper

@Die And I'm entitled to mine yet for some reason you feel the need to denounce it. How come you get to have an opinion and I don't?
7

Atreyu

Real world events aside, I love the release. The references are amazing.
2

Laurey

I am sorry for the people who have had to deal with this issue in real life and who are legitimately scared about some of the clown threats.

But some of the posts in here come across as blaming the clown suits for the crimes, when it's just bad people. Like I said in a previous post, they could be doing all of these things without the costumes.

I get that clowns are scary in people's minds right now with everything going on, but blaming the suits for the actions of the people wearing them doesn't sit right with me either. That's all.

I've had enough of this now too. Agree to disagree, buy them or don't buy them. Whatever ~

@Amber
I'm sure you could come up with something, even if it doesn't match exactly! I do enjoy the outfits anyway.
17

Shelbi

AHS fan here!! appreciating this

Possibly the saddest/scariest clown story ever.
21

Die_232

@Jasper How about you step back and chill out. I'm entitled to my opinion, you don't like it then tough. I understand perfectly well what was said. Why the hell should we let this dictate our lives? I had a clown sighting less than four miles from my damn house where they actually touched a woman, laughed and ran off. I keep a weapon handy but I'm still not letting it dictate my life. @Kilala has the right of it.
10

Amber

@Laurey That’s me, usually! I have a lot of fun around Morostide using all the rag dolls. My goal is to get a low-budget thor costume to match his rag doll, hahaha.

@Cream each of the sets reference clowns from movies/shows! In case some of them sound familiar (like pennywise from IT). I’m happy people are finding the references pretty quickly/easily!

I’ve had a friend that’s had to deal with clown(s) near her college campus (we’re from North Carolina, where there has been quite a few clown sightings). I get that it’s terrifying. With my comments about how these are specifically in reference to common Halloween Clowns, I’m not belittling/trying to offend those that have an issue with them, btw! I'm just pointing out their references/the fact that it’s horror/scary movie season with Halloween right around the corner (well all month it’s halloween if you ask some people) and that's why they've been released now. It's art that has been done for a while (beflore a lot of the spottings happened tbh) and has been paid for, we can't just not use it.
14

Jasper

@Die You are seriously missing the point, which is: that the timing of these items is frickin' horrible. Given the grievous acts of bodily harm these "jerks" have done to people (did you miss lull's comment about a kid being hit by a car thanks to these clowns) the timing of this items release is just... baaaaad. Like seriously not worth the bad PR bad. Again, there is nothing to be done about them now, I know, but I'm not living in a bubble because I choose to be wary at night, take the threat seriously and voice my disdain for the piss-poor timing of the release.

@Kellijuana Perhaps making fun was the wrong way to put it but people are belittling the complaints raised and are thinking they're somehow higher than those of us associating clowns with threat thanks to current events. Which has been the complaint since the start: The frigging timing. Examples of people being pretentious:
Quote by rah:
If we start saying that clowns are in poor taste because currently people are dressing up as clowns to create havoc and scare people...there are so many more things we'd have to cut out of Morostide.
Quote by Muerte:
Evil clowns have been a concept a lot longer than a handful of dickweeds asking to be knocked out.
Other things that have been used to scare and hurt people that Subeta should also stay away from because other knock-my-lights-out people have used them: hockey masks, masks of peoples faces, beanies, fairy costumes, stockings, any form of weapons of any sort, cutlery, apples, shaving equipment, lawnmowers, wigs, makeup, flowers, various kinds of cloth/clothing, plastic, cloth bags, skull masks... really any masks at all. Anything related to blood, witches, zombies... Oh boy I could be here all day listing things.
Quote by die:
Maybe because it wasn't a bad idea. Should staff remove all guns because people use them to hurt people? Or all knives, pillows are used to smother people- bears maul people let's remove them too and wolves... good grief people stop reading into something that was not even used in the intent you are putting it.
Die's comment here is a logical fallacy, btw. Jumping to an insane degree in response to simple criticism. Not many have advocated for the items removal, (in fact, I think I've only seen one person ask for that,) but you'd swear by his testimony that that's what we're all barking for. We're not. We're upset that these items were released now, during a time where clown has become synonymous with terrorist, and are currently defending our opinions because the witty among us, can't seem to grasp why we find it a big deal.
4

Pish

MUCH SQUEALING AND GLEEFUL CLAPPING WAS MADE WHEN I SAW THE ROCK N ROLL CLOWN <3 <3 <3
26

Kilala

@flamboyantCuttlefish

Did you know murders and misfortunes happen almost everyday in the real world? Sadly, we don't live in a happy world where everything is sunshine and blue skies, Subeta is meant to be a place where you come and relax, chat with friends, and escape the real world. Now I do feel bad for those who were victims, don't get me wrong, but don't bash Subeta because they just so happened to release clown items. Subeta can't control what people do in real life, so it's unfair to become upset at them. That's all I saying, if you have anger, then direct the anger at the real-life criminals that are doing this, not coming on here and being upset at the wrong people, that is my point.
22

revolver

why ;_;
0

flamboyantCuttlefish

@Kilala People aren't just dressing up as clowns and scaring people. There's been terroristic threats, theft, violence, and even murder. If you don't know anything about what people are actually talking about, maybe try doing the slightest bit of research before throwing your two cents in.
6

Be_braver

Poor timing for sure. I had two separate incidents with armed clowns in my condo complex last week. BUT the artwork is amazing so coo-dose there!
3

Kilala

Although I do not like clowns in real life, I must admit those items are really neat. Good job to the artist who did them, I'm sure some people are going to make some awesome costumes with those :)!

Okay now to get to the next part of my comment. I'm sorry to say this, but I don't understand why so many people are butthurt over the fact that Subeta released some clown items. I didn't hear about any real life clown problems, but then again I not much of a news girl. Okay, so some idiots dressed up as clowns and went around scaring people? What does that have to do with Subeta? They don't have ties to those people, it's not like they released a bunch of clown items and was like "Lol to all those who were scared by clowns in real life, lol."

I must rant and say that people today are so SENSITIVE! It's like every little thing offends somebody, it is so darn sad. Clown items already exist on the site, so now what? You want them to delete all the clown items because some of ya'll are butt hurt over what some real life people did? People nowadays will do ANYTHING for attention, turn the other way, stop letting little things ruin your day/life.

That's all I have to say since I'm not here to argue, but I had to throw in my two rusty cents.
28

taekeyla

nooope. never liked clowns except for bozo and ronald. these days i hate them all. especially with the creepy clown sightings. do like the pennywise reference though.
0

Kellijuana

@flamboyantCuttlefish Oops, sorry, I should have been clearer. I meant sets of each utensil, as they do sets of each idea for morostide and alegarten and every other holiday here. So like a set of mallets, a set of rolling pins, a set of aprons, a set of tenderizers - all specially themed to that holiday of course, can't lose site of these being things that would really NOT be released at any other time of year, which is my point.

@Jasper .... Who is ridiculing anyone? I thought we were all just trying to get our points across... discussion, debate, it's actually okay, maybe even good to have your thoughts challenged. <3 And personally, I don't think Lilo and Stitch should have taken that scene out. As I mentioned earlier, I think any time you let these fear mongers influence the world with their actions, you're playing into their hands. They want us all afraid, traumatized, backing into a corner, closing ourselves off from usually normal ideas because of their actions.

In the end, no harm in agreeing to disagree. Though I do feel for the people who are upset, and truly sympathize with people who've dealt with it in real life, I don't agree that these should've been held back.
7

Cream

@Laurey

Exactly, One of the items descriptions is "We all float down here" Clearly from stephen king's IT just like they stated. i hate IT with a passion but I love these items and don't find it to be in poor taste or insensitive.
6

Laurey

I will concede that the timing is unfortunate, but to say that Staff are poking fun at it is something that I just don't agree with at all. If the descriptions referenced the real life incidents, then yeah. But they don't. They're just clown items.
10

Die_232

4

Suriana

I agree that maybe the timing was off. My 13 year old is scared to death of clowns right now, where she wasnt before. She is afraid to even walk to the bus stop. And the other kids dont make it any better because that is a lot of what they talk about and scare each other. It is sad times when people will use clowns to scary people. In my area clown costumes have been banned for Halloween. People have been told they will be arrested no questions asked if they dress up like them. Maybe we should have waited till next Morostide to release them.
5

Die_232

@Shelbi Nah, I am not. People will be people and are entitled to their opinion of course.

Happy clowning :3
0

flamboyantCuttlefish

@Jasper EXACTLY. The clown sightings thing is very fresh on people's minds, so of course they're going to think of that when seeing creepy clowns. The items and the things they're meant to reference aren't what's bad; I don't think anybody's arguing that (well, besides the people who are all "gah clowns no" in general). What's bad is the timing.
2

Aynjell

whispers *I love you @Die*
3

Cream

I think staff should just continue bringing us new and exciting content like they always have, If we excluded every item every person has an issue with from the site then we'd probably be left with 5 things and a very bored user base.
10

curbdirt

Thank you!! I love these. Best morostide gift! *w*
3

Die_232

I guess I just wonder why people want to let what some idiotic strangers do rule their life. Like seriously, give them more power why don't you. Why should we or anyone else make changes because of this? Then get all offended about it. You don't have to use the clown items. You don't even have to look at them. Personally I refuse to live my life in some bubble because some jerks want to be jerks in a constume. I don't even like clowns but I am certainly not offended by them.
33

Shelbi

Is everyone really going to fight back and forth over this? -.-
12

Jasper

@Rah ...Why? Just how many more tragedies are you guys poking fun at on a yearly basis? Look, I understand. You [staff] planned this months ago because of the IT remake but that doesn't mean you should go through with releasing them after current events. Remember what I said about Lilo and Stitch having a plane crash climax? According to you, they should've kept that in because they planned it months in advance, but they ripped it out because they had some human decency and knew the public would pan the movie. Just like you guys are getting in flack for releasing them even when you know what's going on right now.

It's in bad taste, there's no denying that.

For both Rah and everyone else making light of my complaint and feeling the need to ridicule myself and like-minded others, understand this: I am not saying take these items down, just that it was in horribly bad taste and that maybe, avoidance is the better call next time. (Can there not be a B Plan?) The only reason I am back here, continuing to talk about it, because I'm being made fun of and given excuses for something that, I'm sorry, never should have been released. But it has been released so there's nothing to be done about it now. I get that, but don't crap on me because I have the gall to point out how squicky it is, given this almost global crisis. (It's not just in America.)
8

flamboyantCuttlefish

@Kellijuana Ok, but what if it wasn't a meat tenderizer along with other types of utensils, but five different meat tenderizers? This isn't one clown outfit amidst other types of costumes, it's five creepy clown outfits. There's a big difference there.

I don't think these items should be removed or anything -- it's too late for that, really. But I certainly think this is still worth having a discussion about, for the sake of the future.
2

Wik

lmao i love these
2

Cream

@flamboyantCuttlefish

I get your thought process but staff weren't doing it in the wrong context, It's not like they were all "hey we're gonna be asshats, clown stuff for the rest of morostide lololololol"
3

Laurey

In non-clown related news, I love the SubetaTeam avatar outfits to match the rag dolls. I bet it's fun for whoever's job that is! :)
5

Diprosopus

@Cream

yes but it's been happening for almost a month. they could have chosen not to release them. the point we're trying to make is it probably was a bad idea because of what is happening RIGHT NOW in the news. and has been happening for the past few weeks. they had time to change their mind and didn't see a single problem with it.

it doesn't matter what they MEANT; most people are associating them with something else right now.
4

Kellijuana

@Muerte Don't forget water bottles and flashlights! Here in AZ the flashlights were left out to be found, and when switched on exploded. Here and elsewhere people were rigging water bottles with common chemicals and tin foil to explode. An old supposedly harmless prank, but they're bad enough to blow off fingers, blind, and leave chemical burns.
2

Sun_938

@flamboyantCuttlefish
I see what you're saying and, I agree. However, you can't leave out the fact that these were released for Halloween - a holiday clowns are associated with. These weren't just released out of the blue because of those sighting. So like, I think it'd only be fair to pretend the meat tenderizer was released right around Thanksgiving or some other food related event idk.
If they were released out of the blue with no other context than these real life events, then yeah I'd probably agree they're in poor taste! But seeing as staff have already said they were made months ago for an entirely different reason I don't see how anyone can be mad at that.

I hope that made sense? That's just my take on it
8

Cream

@Diprosopus

Here's the thing, At least one user in the user base can find a problem with an item on site so should we just shut down the entire place because of people having at least one issue with every item ever made?

Like one person might think this is insensitive, While another is horrified that
Turducken
exists on subeta, then you got someone who thinks items referencing gypsy's are racist....And on goes the list.

Clowns are clowns, Staff didn't deliberately plan these items to be made at a bad time, They didn't know this thing with clowns threatening folks would sweep the nation so you can't say they are being insensitive.
14

Laurey

I get the point about the timing, but people could just as easily be doing those things without the clown costumes. People commit crimes every day, but because they're dressing as clowns now they get more attention.

Honestly I feel like it probably would have fizzled out by now if people weren't getting attention for it, but it's too late now.

It's unfortunate, but I don't think it's that big of a deal that Subeta released them now that it's nearing Halloween.
11

Kellijuana

@flamboyantCuttlefish Yes, but if meat tenderizers and certain few other things were used only for a specific set of dishes that chefs only made during a special chef week and so weren't usually referenced throughout the year, but only during that certain week, and subeta planned sets of those rare utensils especially for that week and released them, including the tenderizers, that context changes.

Evil clowns aren't something common that people (who enjoy them) usually enjoy all year round, it's a theme that comes round once a year. So here they are.
12

Ryuu

Funny items!
"clown threat" "clown scares" ...
Welp, here's a Buggy, since the killer klowns have already been posted.
7

Asumi

Guys, clowns are a classic scary image, they're are very popular to use in scary movies for example. They're remaking Stephan Kings "It" right now. Go to any Halloween costume store right now or even a year or two ago(yes go back in time somehow) and there is clowns, and more clowns. I say keep these items up.
7

Nefarian

Eeeeep... No thanks!! *runs for the hills* Too spooky for this fellow!
1

Alcremie

@lull Thank you!

6

Diprosopus

@flamboyantCuttlefish
exactly! it's not just a prank. people have LITERALLY been arrested. there are all kinds of threats. whether it was planned before or not means literally nothing. what matters is it was posted at a time when the clown scare is really big, which makes it insensitive. saying that it's referencing something else isn't going to mean a thing to people who are terrified of clowns or of what's happening.

yes, many things can be harmful but right now what's REALLY big and in the news is clowns being horrible. that's a huge thing right now so the impact is different.
7

lull

@MarissaUnderground - it isn't different but you did it wrong. [*img] url here [*/img] no stars ;)
1

lull

@Laurey and @Die - It's not the items in themselves that people are agitated by but the timing.
Yes if there were an axe murderer running rampage across the country then I would say releasing an axe item would be in poor taste. But just because there have been axe murderers in the past doesn't we remove all axes.
7

Alcremie

Wait, how do you post gifs in the news comments? Is the code here different than sCode?
1

Cream

asdfgh wish the clown costume bags were a thing when I did a creepy clown for a HA contest a week ago...hnnghh those were what I was looking for xD
2

Muerte

28

Karen

Aw, there's no Gags the Clown!
0

Alcremie

Ha! I knew one of these sets would be an IT reference!

0

Chazezmom

I love 'em....it's funny.
1

Britney

love clowns mwuahhahh >:D
0

flamboyantCuttlefish

Lemme put it this way. Say somebody was killed with a meat tenderizer, and then other stories start popping up about more people being killed with the same thing. That's something rather unique, right? And a couple weeks later, Subeta releases a meat tenderizer wearable. Innocent enough on its own, but due to the temporal closeness, we as humans cannot help but think of the murders when we see that item. It's a meat tenderizer, chefs use it all the time, big deal. But context does matter.
6

operationivy

Clowns aren't scary, but I like the items.
0

lull

@Amber - I understand the reasoning and I see why it was done. I'm just not convinced releasing them was a good idea but everyone has their own opinions ;)
2

Asumi

uhhhhhhh....
0

Cheri

Love...Love...Love it!!!!!
4

HeadPhonz

welp, not for me...o.o
0

Kellijuana

Awww come on guys, when you start censoring because of the things bad people are doing, you let them win! :/
A clown suit is a clown suit, nothing more. Now if a person starts anon gifting these out (or any of the preexisting clown stuff - these don't enable anyone to be a jerk) with messed up gifs/messages to reference the creepy guys out there trying to scare/hurt people, THAT would be in poor taste. This is on the same level of distasteful as all Morostide/Halloween stuff - harmless but terrifying.

*hugsall* to anyone dealing with this stuff irl. My nephew had his school closed down over a clown threat too - (I feel genuinely silly saying "clown threat" what world do we live in where this is a thing??) - something about a clown message listing a couple schools with a picture of a gun and saying which one will it be? :/ People suck.
27

Mackenzi

That these are controversial actually fits the theme of the Perplexing and Unexpected Clowns of 2016. Way to stay relevant Subeta.
1

Hosui

well that's creepy as heck
0

TaterSalad

omg...
1

Diprosopus

@Laurey

i wasn't talking about you.
2

Kevin

clown lives matter*

*there was going to be a rally for this in my town but it was cancelled because of death threats.
8

Lantern

DOCTOR ROCKSO
6

Aynjell

Love these clown items xD

They made me laugh ;)
2

Die_232

Maybe because it wasn't a bad idea. Should staff remove all guns because people use them to hurt people? Or all knives, pillows are used to smother people- bears maul people let's remove them too and wolves... good grief people stop reading into something that was not even used in the intent you are putting it.
35

Laurey

I'm not "trying so hard" to defend it, I legitimately don't think it was a bad idea.

Should we get rid of all of the weapon items and such on the site too because of murderers and stuff? Let's just cancel everything because there will always be bad people to ruin things.
25

Saturnine

Clowns are scary no matter if wackos are terrorizing people in the forest or not; These clearly weren't intended to make fun of those afraid of the rampant clowning.
4

TaintedTamer

KILLER KLOWNS.
1

Diprosopus

y'all are defending this soooo hard like can no one admit they were wrong and it WAS a bad idea
8

Rookie

creepy, love them
1

Amber

@lull It’s Morostide/halloween, it’s the only time that's really appropriate for scary clown items (especially when they're referencing halloween like movies/shows).
22

lull

@Stiles - I understand that the items are meant to cause offence and have completely different reference, it's just the timing that is bad is all.
2

far

tfw nope
2

Diprosopus

well this was a bad idea all around
4

dotSei

Horrifying. I am once again reminded why some people are afraid of clowns. This. This is why. They can be so creepy.
4

Stiles

@lull It is unbelievably terrible that all of these horrible things are happening, but these costumes are references as you will read in the descriptions and not intentional, and were planned months/weeks in advance. :( I'm not Staff but it's obvious there was no ill intent meant.
6

Sun_938

I also fail to see how these are in poor taste. For me, at least, the coincidence only made it more amusing lol
22

Thelma

Well, I love them. Thanks to the artist(s) who did them, I think they're great!
2

Lore

Loving all the references, especially Dr. Rockso x)
2

Kellijuana

LOL holy shit no thank you! XD Well.... maybe... XD I was a clown for three or four years in a row when I was little because that's the only costume we had!
0

Jessica

them* not him
0

Wolfmyth

No...just....no. I know it's not a reference to all the recent sightings...but I hate clowns in general. *hides*
1

Jessica

I don't have a fear of clowns but I never liked him...now because of these I may hate them and have a fear of them o_o
0

EmCee

SO MUCH NOPE IN THIS POST.
/sprays clown be gone everywhere/ ; 0 ;
1

lull

Now I've investigated the whole clown sighting thing I have to agree it is a bit in bad taste.

A guy in Sweden has been stabbed. In the UK a kid was hit by a car and a guy attacked and pulled down the street. It's not just prats being silly, some of it is getting violent.
9

Laurey

I don't really see how it's in poor taste to release these items, clowns have been associated with Halloween and spooky things since forever.

It would have been worse if the descriptions directly referenced the real life clown sightings, which they do not.

Honestly, don't let a few idiots ruin the fun for people.
41

Jasper

@Amber Yeah and Lilo and Stitch originally had a plane crash climax which they swapped for obvious reasons. Even if they're just pixels, I can't help but be squicked that these were still released with what's happening right now.
6

Luck

Also the art on the actual suit part is really nice. Like the shading on the one that references Pennywise. And I like how the little puffs down the front were done.
3

Stiles

@Rah @Amber You've always said you've had things planned months ahead of time so I don't think it was mean spirited or in poor taste, just unfortunate timing <3 Also to those genuinely afraid or having had bad experiences with the current terror trend, the majority of us aren't laughing at you we're laughing at movies or the references.
6

Rah

If we start saying that clowns are in poor taste because currently people are dressing up as clowns to create havoc and scare people...there are so many more things we'd have to cut out of Morostide.
40

Jesus

watch out clowns are banned from being depicted or mentioned for life or else you might offend somebody

also clowns are gr8 thanks i need them all
27

Suiicune

Nooooo...><
0

marvel

nnnnope
0

Amber

@Jasper @Hitokage These are all referencing clowns in media that generally have been tied to halloween movies/shows: American Horror story, pennywise, halloween, poltergeist, and Metalocalypse (these are not the order of them in the news post). We’re not trying to make fun of the IRL situation with clowns! That’s why these are being released now, since it’s Morostide.
33

Willow

@Stiles Im so glad I wasnt the only one!! LOL :D
1

Metaphor

I don't see how this is in poor taste. In general, the people dressing up just seem to be idiots who want to get a rise out of others? I'm not condoning it by any means, but honestly, clowns have already been ruined in real life for Halloween because of these idiots. Having them on Subeta doesn't seem like a huge issue.
24

Draken

I immediately thought of killer klowns from outerspace seeing the rock n roll one.
3

Jinx

These are kind of in poor taste.
4

Stiles

@fable That's actually the first movie I thought of!
1

Die_232

Why should subeta change its mind because some idiots want to screw with people? You can't please everyone obviously, the clowns are just that, clowns. Halloween and clowns go together. The art is good. I don't like clowns much but well done.
39

FCoD

Oh good Lord, they're remaking IT?

*runs screaming in terror*

Scariest clown movie ever.
2

lovecraft

I find these horrible and wonderful at the same time. I'm dying over here.
8

Espresso

@Amber
honestly (yea i dont care if i get hate for it)
It's in poor taste. Regardless if you guys had the items before everything happened, You could of waited to release them. I know they're just pixel items but it's still in bad taste.
12

Bathory

Bill Skarsgard is sexy and his pennywise is creepy!
1

Maybe you should've skipped these items because wow, this seems in poor taste with the real life drama that's going down right now.
14

Stiles

Lmao > : D

I work for a retailer that pulled clown masks off the floor. They have no plans on putting them back out to the salesfloor to sell. They look pretty much like the Terrorizer Clown Trading Card one. O_o
