Daily Support Goal!
I just put up a new page: the Daily Support Goal. It's the (very, very) long version of the little bar on the news page, and it's the honest account of what it costs to run Subeta in 2026 and how close to the line we actually are. If you've ever wondered how a site like this keeps the lights on, that page is me answering it. Please read it!
And to support the goals on the page, two updates went up alongside it. Cash Shop Collections has its own page now, so you can browse every monthly collection going back to 2006 and either buy the sealed set or pick the one item you want out of it. For this week only you can browse and choose from every week, when the sale is over it goes back to being just the ones released in the current month.
And Billboards got rebuilt with a banner maker, so you can design your very own drag and drop 480x90 ad right in the browser instead of uploading one. Please, make something weird and fun!
For one week, both are on sale. Every collection is open right now, all the way back to 2006 ๐จโ๐ฆณ, and all but June 2026 are 100 CSC each. Billboards are 75% off on every size. The sale ends Sunday, and the prices and the collection selection go back on their own.
If the goal page makes the case to you, the sale is the easy way to help but there are lots of other suggestions on the page. Bump your old bug reports (they're getting fixed!) and make those suggestion threads.

And yes, Masquerade is this month - more toward the middle. Hopefully you understand from the page why dates have been more flexible the last few years.

Thank you for the very detailed breakdown Keith. I've really liked a lot of the quality of life updates you've made to the legacy site lately! In particular, I noticed the overhaul of the pet job page, and I really like the introduction of xp to level up in jobs rather than having to meet stat requirements. I also didn't realize how you've been handing over the reins on asset creation to users as well. I think it's a really smart move, and I love that Subeta can be something we build together.
It's clear to me how hard you all work to keep this place alive. Thank you for your dedication. โค๏ธ

Bought some csc on my credit card, took out 23 or so wishlist items! I'm pleased! Got some wishlist items and showed restrain and didn't financially ruin myself.

I've been a user forever. I've struggled with finances for years, but I think I do finally have money to spare to help Subeta, a site which has given me a lot of comfort. I'm signing up to be a monthly subscriber.
Thanks again Keith and staff. :)

I love this site and have been around for what feels like forever from one lost profile to the next lol, I keep my monthly subscription active in hopes that it helps... Do you @Keith aceept donations for the site anywhere at all? I would love to see this site expand with all the ideas you and the team have, i hate to see it get put on the back burner due to lack of funds :/

@Keith I was wondering if there is another way to support without going through Stripe or Paypal and pay them the fees? 8% looks like a small number, but per year, it's a big loss. it's actually pretty shocking to see this number.
I guess the international fees + the currency conversion fees are pretty high.
I hope it's not rude, but can u share an example of the sum of the fees of one month in the past or one year? just to get the big picture.
I understand that Paypal and Stripe are necessary for many reasons, but there must be an alternative with lower fees like Wise, Payoneer, Noda, even integrating a the CSC store into Shopify would be better imo.

I've been a user for 19 years and I've really noticed and appreciated the recent quality of life updates. Just bought some CSC to take advantage of this amazing sale and help the site I love <3

@DebiLee Keith and I went back to visit our parents last year and actually came across the coloring book (I think it was my copy)! I have it now with me and it's so interesting looking at how far we've come!!! I'm actually jealous with the condition Keith's plushie is in - mine has been roughed up a bit (by his dog when we were younger).
I also want to say, to everyone here, that I appreciate everyone's support for the site. So many of us have been here forever, like I've had Subeta in my life longer than I haven't (I'm 33!). I've met some of my closest friends here and of course get to work with my brother which is very important to me. I've learned so much from here that I've been able to use in my second (and for a while third) job. Please keep giving your feedback on the forums! Ping me for items! Even if it's something you've pinged me for in the past, do it again. I can't do the crazy amount of updates Keith has been doing but I can still help y'all complete collections etc. <3

I work in communications with a focus on fundraising for non-profits. I know Subeta is not a non-profit, but I still wanted to give a massive kudos to this page and how detailed it is. Transparency and honesty, specific goals, real numbers and real individual stories is what makes people take action. And this page you put up? It has all the good practices and more to get people to CARE and support Subeta.
No company wants to say ‘we’re struggling’ and no company wants to go out there and say ‘if we don’t get 500$ a day we won’t survive’. But if you want users to take actions, being open like you did is the best way to get people to actively support the site.
Showing stats and putting numbers also makes things super easy to understand for people. The facts are there, the numbers are real. And putting a real number to how much it costs for Subeta to stay alive daily is the single best thing you could’ve done. That number gives us a clear goal, and it’s a number that is achievable. It also puts things in perspective: it’s both a lot (182k a year to run a site is not nothing) but also so little (500$ a day, which is just 50 users buying 10$ worth of CSC or subscription.) With hundreds of active daily users, thousands per month, it’s an achievable goal.
Thank you for this transparency and this real dedication toward Subeta, truly now one of the last remains of the old internet that is still standing. I hope I’ll still be here in 20 years to celebrate Subeta.

@omg_carrie This is a first pass, I really want to give the whole cash shop section a much larger pass with some focus on the cart...... it's really a pretty brittle piece of code right now and I am scared to add to it, haha. Updates coming in that direction soon, though!
Not thrilled about the lack of transparency about the AI use (until it was called out) but... I think others have covered that one.

^ this is AWESOME, I love this. This is soooo helpful. idk how much use I'll be getting out of it since tbh I don't currently feel comfortable spending money on this site, but I love it and I hope the site gets back to the stage where I'm happy to throw money at it so I can get more use out of it :)
Two nitpicks: It'd be even better if you could add items to cart on this page? I like to make a big shopping list and then slowly whittle it down so that'd be even more useful.
Also when you do buy an item, it yeets you to the top of the page and shows what you've bought - that's awesome BUT the item image is just an image not the
<- thing where you can delete it from your wishlist etc (IDK how to phrase this sorry) - it'd be cool if it had an option to delete it from your wishlist right there. Not a huge deal but it'd just be a little bit more convenient lol

@Karasu It really took going through and tagging them all so they could be on this page, and then I did a bunch of work a few weeks ago to get all of the transformable items working in the wardrobe (they transform in the wardrobe, you only need one copy there now!) that made it easy to pop that on this page. It's all coming together!!

I'm failing to see where Keith has used the bad AI. If you read what he wrote, you'll find that he wrote the equivalent to a personal script bot that runs on THIS website's database, that pulls from THIS website's information, to generate rough copies of information based on a request. This kind of thing has been used for years, and he even is reducing any impact of the power it takes by using solar power. It's the moral equivalent of using CTRL + F in a document you wrote. Using google search the past few years is worse than what he's been doing. If you hate all instances of AI use, then that's fine, but it's been incredibly useful for science & medicine, especially in the realm of disease detection, because labs have their own models trained on proper datasets in a similar way that's being done here.
Anyway.
I'm not usually a change liker (and some cosmetic changes to some of the games aren't my fave, but I'll get used to them in favor of everything functioning better!) but I'm really stoked to see a lot of the new ones. I feel way more invested in the site than I have been the past few years, though I still tried to visit at least to do my dailies every day. I'm most excited about new warddrobe features, but there are other areas drawing me in too! I'm hoping to contribute in some way this summer <3

I just read it all and would it help if you brought back the CSCbonus weekend? I used to spend extra money there, but even without a newitem, I think we both could benefit from the bonus โค ๐

@stars_water All of the previous months will still have their items even after the sale, you just won't be able to buy them ;)

Keith

@AngelNyx420 We have - and I think I'm going to do a little bit more work toward that soon. We're going to change the subscriptions when I move then over from new.subeta.net to have the monthly item be a currency instead of the item (which messes up a lot), and might add 3/6 month options at the same time.

@Keith
You don't know me and don't get to decide for me what will or won't make me happy.
I'm not ripping you apart, I'm telling you to inform people. Your users DESERVE to know what you're requesting their support on.
Let your users decide what is appropriate for them. They deserve the opportunity to make their own choices based on information presented.
Don't hide the info in the forums or in the news comments, make it an ACTUAL news post so the most eyes will see it.
I've been on Subeta long enough to know that if you don't make this a news post, it'll get swept.
You'll earn far more of the respect you crave if you're actually shouting over this instead of whispering in the corner.
I'm one person in a sea of many, my guy.

The page has a 'where the money goes' section, that outlines where the money goes. I'm not sure I can make it more clear than that, and I agree that folks have been asking for these details for a long time, which is why I'm posting this page. Lots of people get lots of value from the connection in the forums and with their friends (as you can see in these comments ๐ฅฐ ๐ฅฐ ๐ฅฐ) and I'm showing people what it costs to run, including having someone dedicated to running the site entirely for free in their free time for 20+ years.

@feral I honestly don't think you're going to be happy with anything that I say, so for others you can look here and form your own opinion to me responding to something publicly that I've talked about a lot. I really think this situation in particular (with content related to subeta, on a subeta wiki) is different than what is being framed, but again I totally understand anyone reading it and either wanting more details or being turned off by it. I am not hiding it, and if I were I woudln't be responding publicly / responding to comments in the news.

@AngelNyx420 i think what you want is here! (scroll down to the medals)

this one is kind of a stupid suggestion, but a wishlist search in the cash shop or collections would be really helpful

I'm going to crash out lmao.
How are you going from admitting to using gen AI after getting caught 'accidentally' scraping from other people's websites to this in less than 24 hours??
You need to be transparent with what this money you're collecting is funding and let people decide if that's actually where they want to put their money???!?!?!??!
Am I losing my mind?? lmao

Thank you so much for this post. I read it all and I love Subeta so much. I would love to volunteer when the time comes.
Oh I also just realized I can't see my wishlisted items on the main collections page! Only after I click into a collection does it show. Adding that feature would really help out too.
I've been considering a subscription for a small bit now(I'm still extremely new to Subeta, but I greatly enjoy it right now), but I'm one of those people that does the yearly subscriptions for game related things I am subscribed to. Have you considered making this or something similar an option? Could do 3mo, 6mo, a year alongside the monthly options currently available?
I'm SO GLAD I can actually see what's in these bundles now!!!! Daaang! Phew. What a relief for an outstanding problem this site has had.
That said, I would love to see the ability to at least preview all of the months stick around (rather than just be a thing for this little event), so I can plan my budget around it. As it is I'd about have to make an entire spreadsheet and I just don't have the energy for it.

@Christopher thanks for keeping Style File open, I loved the contests and storing outfits there

I wouldn't really call myself an active user anymore... but I'm still happy to fork over my ten bucks every month to help keep the site running. I'm excited to see the new changes now that you've canceled Kumos, because to be totally honest man I HATED the Kumos site so much lol. Thank you for the new Collection page redesign! That will make things so much easier!

Keith, i'm turning 40 in August, you're only ~3 years younger than me - my nearly 19 year old account is older than you look! You baby-faced rapscallion. Thank you for the transparency behind everything dear, very much appreciate it. Very excited for the next 20+ years! <3

Oh my GOSH! The PLUSHIE!!! But... Do you still have the Redemption Card AND the Coloring Book? I do...

Keith, I genuinely appreciate the transparency and the effort to revitalize subeta.
As the person paying to keep the style-file lights on, I understand the finances-to-use ratio analysis of it all.
Thanks for beign honest about the struggles but also highlighting the work you and the team are putting in to maintain it.

Also it has been very encouraging to see how many updates and new features are suddenly popping up. Color me excited to see new battle features in the works!

a good reminder for me to turn my sub back on
I personally really appreciate this level of transparency. Even though I don't get to play as actively as I'd like, this site has still given me so many years of entertainment that a subscription feels like the least I can do in return.

Also quick question, will the Hoilday Schedule page be updated too? Since the Masquerade didn't happen in May?

An aside, it's pretty annoying how machine learning has been folded into genAI in the public eye...they are related technologies but the former uses constrained datasets for a specific purpose while the latter hoovers up everything to try to do everything, which is where all of the plagiarism and godawful energy and environmental use comes from. Machine learning (and related technologies such as machine vision) have existed for decades, I literally have my name on a scientific paper using it from 2013, and if you own a car with adaptive cruise control, it's using machine vision with a camera, trained on images of cars, obstacles, and pedestrians (and, if your manufacturer is responsible, alongside a radar for extra safety). I don't think anyone would argue that your Honda using ACC is the same as ChatGPT telling someone to kill themselves. It's been used for years in medical imaging and protein folding etc etc, but everyone is calling it "AI" now because it gets eyeballs and makes investors excited. The ethical problems with genAI are the aforementioned environmental usage and plagiarism aspects; I feel that the technology as implemented is unethical but the actual underpinnings of it have existed without harming anyone for years and years, and those ethical aspects are satisified when it is used as originally intended: on limited datasets for a very specific purpose.
