🧟 Zombie Fixes!
All right, I've made a lot of fixes over the last day. If your zombie virus suddenly vanished, you can visit the healer to have it re-applied to your avatar, with roughly where it should be time-wise.
Downtime Update!
πŸ‘‹ Hey Folks!

Last night the site went down for our quickly-scheduled maintenance, and unfortunately I wasn't able to complete the migration in time (even with a few extra hours of downtime!).

What happened: The database got stuck migrating the item_instances table β€” that's where we store all of your wardrobe items. Turns out you've all collected a lot of items over the years. You should be proud! But it also means this table takes a very long time to run migrations over.

What this means: We'll be living with the current lag and some strange bugs (like random hair) for a few more days while I investigate whether we can migrate this table slowly in the background without stressing the site. I'll have an update soon.

Cron was down: While the site was down, our "cron" system (the magical timer ⏲️) got turned off, which stopped zombie progression and other site progression. It wasn't able to restore itself until around 10AM Subeta time. Unfortunately, I can't step back in time and re-run everything that should have happened, so progression starts fresh from there. That means some folks' Zombie strains will need a little extra time, we gave Survival some extra runway because we knew there might be complications like this. I'll keep an eye on it, and we can extend it if needed, or reduce timers.

The bigger picture: I know this sucks. We're between two sites right now and features aren't working 100%, and some people are seeing weird hair on their avatars they didn't put there. I know everyone wants everything to just work. We're a very small team now, doing our best to get us there.

I'll keep you updated. Thanks for sticking with us! πŸ’™

Incoming Downtime!
Whew, we've seen tens of thousands of kisses per hour, and have the lag to match it. Zombie progression is attempting to happen on the five minute mark, but it's being pushed back further and further in the queue while processing is attempting to happen.

I'm going to be taking the site down tonight at ~1AM (subeta time) to perform some critical database updates, update our indexes to speed things up and make our web servers more capable of spinning up new resources during events.

I'm expecting the downtime to be ~3 hours, and we'll come back up much zippier!

🫑 Survival:
Hey everyone,
First off: sorry. I pushed Survival live and a bunch of stuff is broken. If you've been hitting errors or features that just aren't working, you're not imagining it. We know.

The short version is that a lot of Survival's features are connected to systems that are mid-transition over to Kumos, and that's causing things to break in ways that are, frankly, annoying to deal with on your end and ours. We're actively bringing things back up right now.

I mean, would it really be Survival if nothing went wrong? (The answer is no. It would not.)

We're in this weird in-between place with two sites running at once, and it sucks. It's exactly as conflicting and frustrating as it sounds. There are going to be bugs. We're squashing them as fast as we can, and if we need to push dates back to make sure everything actually works, we will. I've posted elsewhere about how we need to do this transition, and now sooner than ever.

And for stuff like the Kissing Booth feature: the whole point is to get you as many hearts and goodies as possible. That's the goal, and we're going to make sure you get there.

Thanks for your patience, and sorry again for the rough start. We're on it.
SURVIVAL IS HERE
The Voluntary Infection Program is finally open! Gunner has given his program a bit of a facelift which you can find here. With the program now on kumos.subeta.net, you'll have an easier time distinguishing new strains from older ones.

As some of you older zombies know, when you choose a strain you get thrown into a queue before you are properly infected. To make that time go by faster, you can get bitten by zombies on the Survival forums with that same strain. You will see your queue status on the VIP page!

Fantastic Fiction: Slow Burn
Cutiecorn Plushie
Red Rose Cake Pop Bouquet

Simple Graveyard Mallarchy Figure
Putricorn Puff Snacks
Bats of the Underground
Louis of L'amour Parlor fame and the Zombie Den's own Skitters are back with a new selection of items.

Skitters only requires your hard earned sP while Louis will want any candy hearts you receive from kissing users.

Kiss Me Sticker
Speaking of kissing users!

You can now create a kissing booth on the Survival Forums.

When you create a new topic, you'll have the option to make your thread a booth. Note: Once a booth, always a booth. You can't just turn it off.

What are the limits to kissing, because lips need to rest! You can be in 3 kissing booths as a regular user, 5 with a gold account. NPCs like Qazim and others will be joining booths to give a kiss or two.

You'll be able to see interesting stats like most kisses given, most candy hearts, as well as other features like a quick chat and a kiss feed. We hope you enjoy!

Do you have fond memories of different stages of past viruses? Well, you can relive them with the help of Rachelle in the Underground.

You can choose any stage from any virus you have already unlocked. We can't wait to see how y'all incorporate some of the middle stages! Rachelle will have this feature available year-round.

Hot Kiss Sticker
WHEW. That's a lot! Just a few last things to be aware of.

 Snowballs have been closed until the end of Survival.
 Survival will end on March 15.
 The Survival forums will close with the holiday.

πŸ”Wardrobe Avatar Page Rework Kumos Improvement

Wardrobe Avatar Page Rework

@Syfyri posted an incredibly detailed breakdown of the wardrobe avatar page with mockups and everything (seriously, go read it!). We went through every point and implemented the vast majority of their suggestions. Here's what changed:

New 3-Column Layout
The avatar page now uses three columns on wide screens: your Currently Wearing list on the left, Avatar Preview + Item Preview in the middle, and the Item Browser on the right. Each column scrolls independently, so you can browse hundreds of items without losing sight of your avatar or your current outfit. On smaller screens it gracefully collapses to two columns, then stacks on mobile.

Fixed Item Preview Panel
No more chasing a floating preview around with your mouse! There's now a dedicated preview panel below your avatar that shows your body wearing the hovered item. Hover over anything in your items or your Currently Wearing list and it appears in the preview instantly. If you're browsing items you don't own, the preview panel also shows a Shop Search link and a quick Wishlist button.

Filter Improvements
* Sort By and the My Items / All Items toggle are now always visible β€” no more digging through Advanced Filters for basic controls
* 11 layer tabs shown by default (Chest, Hair, Hat, Face, Held, Feet, Head, Backdrop, Foreground, Neck)
* Labels now use AND logic β€” select "wings" + "sparkle" and you'll get items tagged with both, not either
* You can click a selected label again to deselect it
* You can now select multiple colors at once (also AND logic) β€” find items that are both blue AND gold, for example
* Active filter chips appear below the filters with clear category labels (Color:, Drawer:, Label:, etc.)

All Items / Catalog Browse Fixes
This mode was pretty broken before β€” it was returning non-wearable items, sorting didn't work, and pagination was busted. All fixed now. It only shows wearable items, all sort options work correctly, and you get proper page numbers with totals. You can also preview unowned items on your avatar now since clothing URLs load properly.

Visual Polish
* Unowned items in Catalog Browse have a softer dimmed look (less aggressive than before)
* Owned items get a subtle green checkmark when browsing All Items so you can tell what you have at a glance
* The CW (Custom Wearable) badge is now a small star icon instead of a text overlay
* The old outfit completeness progress bar is gone β€” it wasn't particularly useful
* Pagination controls stick to the bottom of the items panel so they're always reachable

Drag & Drop Fix
Dragging items to reorder in your Currently Wearing list now auto-scrolls when you drag near the top or bottom edges. No more struggling to move an item to the top of a long outfit.

Big thanks to @Syfyri for taking the time to write all of this up with mockups β€” this is exactly the kind of feedback that makes Subeta better. If you run into any issues with the new layout, let me know!

πŸ›Dark Theme Styling Fixed! Kumos Bug Fix

Fixed a bunch of pages that were showing blinding white backgrounds and unreadable text when using dark themes like Darkside, Shadowglen, and Morostide. The shop autopricer, forum reply checkboxes, quest daily rewards bar, and several other Flux UI components should now properly respect your chosen theme.

Wild Pets!
Recently, the sound of drums has been emanating from the Omen Islands. We caught up with local resident and master face painter, Noijatat, to learn if the Islands are in their own preparations for Survival or if they’re throwing a different kind of festival...

β€œAhh Survival, well we have many residents here who have emigrated from Shadowglen, and we do enjoy the traditions they have brought with them, but no, the drumming is not part of the Survival celebration. Although it does have a lot to do with surviving. Tradition. Instinct.

These things many of our companions, or pets as they are often called, have forgotten. In a world of luxury and ease, we have forgotten that we can be strong, and it is the same for our pets. They must hear the sounds of their ancestors to ignite the flame within. That is why you are hearing the drum. I have discovered a path back to our ancestors.

Subeta is full of magic and mystery. What I can show you now is some of my companions who have found their Wild selves again. Please welcome the wild bovyne, dragarth, ghostly, paralix, and velosotor.

Wild Potion
This is a project I am still working on. Calling out to the ancestors can not be done in one afternoon! When I have perfected how to make the potion I will show users to put in the hard work themselves. For now, I have given an amount to the Cash Shop to help fund my journey. You understand, even a woman of great magica must buy food to eat!”

This potion is usually 1000 CSC, but for this introductory weekend only it will be 800. Enjoy!
πŸ”§Quest Turn-In Speed Boost! Kumos Technical

Quest completions should now feel noticeably faster. We optimized the reward calculations and moved non-essential background work (like cache updates and activity logging) off the main thread so you see your rewards sooner.

THROWBACK TO FIGHTING
Looking for something to do so you can ignore the outside world? You'll have until March 8 to fight the following challengers we've brought back for this limited time. As many of these challengers are very OLD and haven't seen the light of day in years, they never had their loot updated to today's standards.

The following challengers are back and can be found under the 'Throwback' tab: Ping, Mini Gelatin, Two-Headed Dysfunctional Teddy Bear, Rain Sylph, King Chelon, Bloodred Golem, Mortaurus, Panzer Hydra, Pylot Attacks!, Cozcoatl, Bonesaw, Vintage Prodigy, Crawbeast, and Gelatin Stomper!

πŸ›Wardrobe Item Browser Filters Now Apply Correctly! Kumos Bug Fix

Fixed a frustrating bug where changing filters (layer, color, labels) in the wardrobe item browser wouldn't actually update the items shown on the current page. Previously, items would get "stuck" on pages - you'd click on "Hat" layer but still see your recently added items from all layers. This was essentially the system caching each page (so if you went to page 2 with filters selected, you'd see that! for any page two going forward)

Now when you change a filter, the items update immediately to match your selection. No more phantom pages showing the wrong items!

πŸ”Active Effects Visible in Wardrobe! Kumos Improvement

Your active hexes (viruses, replacement limbs, etc.) now appear in the wardrobe's "Currently Wearing" list under an "Active Effects" section. You can see what stage they're at and whether they're frozen (what does that mean πŸ‘€ πŸ‘€ πŸ‘€)

Cash Shop: Imbued Stone Intarsia Trinket Box

Imbued Stone Intarsia Trinket Box
It has come to this, my last hope, my final spell! I have placed Shinwa in her dream state with the intent to lure out every remnant of magic and bind it at once! I am afraid we must attack her dream state at its most powerful to quell the magic for good, much like building a dam from scratch rather than trying to plug individual holes. It will not be easy, but I have faith in you all! If only I had the same faith in myself to set things right. It does not matter, I must believe, this is the only way.

Stand with me, use the Imbued Stone Intarsia Trinket Box from the Cash Shop to fight for our survival. Shinwa’s magic can no longer fall out of control!

Decorated Amethyst Antler
We’ve changed the special item for our Subscription Quester, Councilor, and Goddess plans. We will be changing this special item slot every month.
