A tribute pet to Sailor Saturn

There are all kinds of stars. Some are older than the earliest memory of man and will continue shining long after mortal humans return to the soil. Others have flashed and disappeared from evening view within living record. And still others have fascinated people by moving against the background of the night sky, supposedly showing maps and portents of doom or salvation.

All of these stars have souls. The planet Saturn has a soul of death and rebirth, and through the girl named Tomoe Hotaru has also recently learned love (because stars, like souls, are always changing). Her kin are the moon, the sky, the sea, and time, but she is a Sailor Soldier for all of us as well because humans are also ever-changing stars and we must never give up on the light our future may bring.

What Dosei Means

In this context, Dosei is the what people using Roman characters would say or write for the Japanese term of 土星 (meaning literally “earth, soil + star”). Hotaru, or , 星, is also the character for 'firefly', a living light in the darkness, and Sailor Saturn's civilian self is named Tomoe Hotaru most likely as a reference to this. Furthermore, fireflies in Japanese culture are also associated with flights of poetry and the souls of the dead fallen in war. Sailor Saturn has a commonly attributed quote about her power and duty, "I am known as the Soldier of Destruction because I have been given the power to destroy whole worlds. But when I use that power, even I have no escape." She passes sentence and she ends that which has no hope. But the character is also reborn in every form of Sailor Moon media, manga and animated works as well as musicals. The planets come round to their same position, the fireflies sprout every summer wherever there is a clean stream, and human hopes and stories are reborn every lifetime and every generation. This is the essence of Sailor Saturn.
