It wouldn't be a new feature on Subeta, if there weren't a few bumps in the road! I'm sure you've all noticed that tonight (and yesterday night!) we had a pet win that came from a user that already won.

First, let me explain how the Pet Spotlight works, in a little more depth. You nominate your friends pet, and then we (the staff) have a huge list of pets that have been nominated (seriously, 500+ pets) and we accept/deny those pets.

After a pet is accepted, it goes into a queue. As of this posting, we've got 75 pets accepted into the queue.

Every night, one of the pets will be selected randomly from the queue, to win. The problem is, that some people have multiple pets that are nominated, and entered into the queue, because all (or most) of their pets are good, and quality enough to win the Pet Spotlight.

Tonight I've added in some extra protection to the script that runs nightly, to prevent this from happening. There is a 14 day limit between wins for any user, who wins the pet spotlight.

Sorry for the confusion, I hope all of you are busy working on your pets now so they can win the spotlight next ;)!

Hello everyone!

All Clear: Subeta should be functioning normally!

If you hadn't noticed earlier, one of our web servers suffered a crash of its disk array around midnight Subeta time, which happened to hold images for all of Subeta. Thus, the site has been offline while our datacenter repaired the problem.

For a while, we were running on only 2 of 3 servers, which was causing intermittent issues with people and their cached DNS. Now, the 3rd server is back online, and everything should be golden.

Thanks to everyone for being patient with us this past night while we worked to get the site back up!

We're having some issues with one of our web servers, which happens to host the images share for the site. We've contacted our hosting provider and they've begun attempting to resolve the problem.

I'm leaving Subeta up because it can't really hurt anything, but the site might behave strangely in the meantime, so don't be alarmed.

To be serious for a moment, something tragic happened recently in Haiti. I'm not going to go into details because if you've turned on a television or listened to the radio in the past week, you've heard the heartbreaking stories of children trapped under rubble for 6 days, or mothers lifting stones with their bare hands trying to find their babies.

I know that right now, no one has much to spare. If you have anything, there are multiple charities that will put your money to the best possible use in Haiti, helping people who need it right now.

Subetabucks has been having a tough time during the rough economy, and had to sell it's business. Luckily someone was nearby to snatch up the prime real estate and opened a new coffee shop, Get Mugged!

Just a quick notice, today Mozilla released Firefox 3.6, which is a major improvement over the current version (3.5).

It increases speed by 20%, and has javascript optimizations. That means that areas of the site that are heavy in javascript, including the wardrobe, will likely be more responsive for you.

Those you using Firefox 3.5 (or a lower version), I suggest you upgrade to the newest version :).

Hi everyone! Tonight during our regularly scheduled maintenance, the data center will be tying up some loose ends from our move to a more spacious location. This includes a reboot of our firewall for a firmware upgrade.

Hey everyone!

I know we've had a lot of planned midnight downtime recently, but it's Monday night and we have some maintenance that needs doing, including a resync of our database servers.

So we'll be taking the site offline around 1 am eastern time. I don't expect things will take very long, less than an hour hopefully.

Thank you for being patient with us! Having a regular time when we take the site offline and do maintenance helps us stay ahead of potential problems and makes necessary things like backups a lot more straightforward.

Hi everyone, happy 2010!

Subeta will be down beginning 1:30 am tonight, as our servers are being moved to a new location within the data center. I guess they got tired of their old place.

Actually, space was getting pretty tight in our old location, so this move ensures we'll have room to grow should we need it.

They've asked for a 4 hour window to perform the procedure, but I don't think it will take that long.

The site will likely be totally offline during the move, and I'll be posting updates via our Twitter page so you can be the first to know when we're back.
